There's really nothing in there that I'd rate above R, and most of it is PG13. Sick, twisted, and evil PG13, but PG13.

—Alorael, who is a card-carrying SEP member. If there's anything that can match the beauty of a good sniper rifle, it's a good lead pipe.

Welcome to Spiderweb, Planetvoid! Leave your sanity at the door, and try not to be too confused by the fact that everyone seems to have a name that isn't the name they publicly display.

—Alorael, who would like to point out that this newcomer is from Revere, MA. Has the posse grown by one?

Erika or Rentar-Ihrno. They're the only memorable major characters in the Exile/Avernum trilogies.

—Alorael, who happens to think that there is something to be said for power-crazed and highly eccentric incantatrices. And unlike most characters, they don't have clearly good or evil motives.

Quakerism is barely Christian. One could probably apply most of the tenets of Quakerism to a non-Christian religion without any trouble. I have been to several Quaker Meetings of various levels of formality and I have not felt at all awkward or out of place as a Jew.

—Alorael, who again thinks it would be good to talk to one of the board's resident Britons. From what he has heard, American Quakers are much more liberal than their counterparts across the Atlantic.

Even though this topic contains a great deal of uselessness, the topic has a purpose. Stop spamming in it so it doesn't have to be locked except on special occasions.

—Alorael, who does not like spam that even admits it is spam, sirs. So cut it out!

Drakey is only five. His tastes will surely mature.

—Alorael, who also cannot share Drakey's appreciation of the iMac. Little boys can be strange like that.

This topic has reached critical degeneration. It will now spontaneously lock with a small amount of help from my sniper rifle.

—Alorael, who would appreciate an immediate end to hostilities. Locking topics isn't fun.

Please don't post only agreement. That's spam.

—Alorael, who likes edged weapons, pole weapons, and bows. Bashing weapons are never quite as good. Armor, gloves, and boots get all the really great abilities. Helms tend to just sit on heads.

This topic was never particularly great, but resurrecting it twice just to spam is exactly why you were Canned. Please let topics die unless you have a good reason to post.

—Alorael, who will give this topic the death to die it should have gotten several posts ago. Sniping and all that, alarums, etc.

Spiderweb does have hostility problems. As long as you stay away from philosophy, politics, and religion, you should be fine. Well, and if nobody takes an instant disliking to you. Oh, and RP's are usually bad news.

—Alorael, who finds this catalog quite depressing. From now on, whenever you have an urge to flame, troll, or verbally dismantle someone, take a moment to think about this: what would Saunders do?

That is at least possible. Someone completely incompetent could spend that long, or even longer, trying to work a digital camera. Some miracle of spontaneous computer understanding could significantly reduce that time on a Mac. I agree, it's not a great commercial, but it isn't actually untrue. Just unlikely.

Not that those commercials are particularly good. They're not. A good commercial needs to be memorable and positive. I only saw those Mac commercials a few times, and they struck me as neither.

—Alorael, who dislikes most commercials. Even the ones that are basically honest always stretch the truth and manipulate language. It's actually quite funny what commercials are really saying if you take the time to figure out the grammar that they use.

Wow. As a Mac user, I'm indignant. As a human being, I'm apalled. As someone who just downloaded that thing without reading the posts first, I wish the link were at the botton of the topic rather than the top.

Sharpton 100%
Kucinich 98%
Kerry 95%
Clark 88%
Dean 88%
Edwards 84%
Lieberman 77%
Bush 10%

—Alorael, who wouldn't vote for Sharpton. That's just the problem with polls like this.

The only terrible spam I see is in this topic and the post-along, and this topic really only exists for the first post. The rest isn't terribly pertinent to Spiderweb, but General has become more and more Misc.-ish.

—Alorael, who doesn't see anything wrong with discussions on politics, or religion, or anything else as long as it is really a discussion and not just a postfest.

Chick is one of the funnies cartoonists of our times, and he's even funnier because he doesn't mean to be.

—Alorael, who would like to believe that getting into heaven is all about doing good deeds. But there's no evidence showing that that helps any more than human sacrifices. Maybe you need to break a certain number of sticks during your life to get in. God doesn't need to make sense...

Probably. Scripts should let you bypass resistance and force one character to become charmed. That character will happily batter another character of your choice.

—Alorael, who noticed in the Avernum games that such charmed characters also have an unhealthy tendency to waste AP by using items that really don't help, like maps.

It would show that the housekeeper's wages aren't just funding bizarre curses.

—Alorael, who was happier with a free housekeeper who received no wages, actually. Still, if you want one who will earn her keep, it should be possible.

I'm Jewish, but only barely. I also find much to be admired in apathetic agnosticism. And I go to about the same number of Quaker meetings as services in synagogue.

—Alorael, who has no idea whether there is an afterlife or not, and couldn't conceive of it if there is one. He'll leave that up to God and go on with his life.

Whether a Hawk's Manse equivalent exists in a scenario is up to the designer. The idea would probably be a pain to program, but it would be possible.

—Alorael, who just hopes that scripts can actually handle move item rectangles correctly and funnel them all into a single space. It would be nice to get all those broken BoE nodes working as scripts.

You'd think evolution would select for ability to squeeze through small caves in Avernum. It's more evidence for vahnatai creationism: strong, huge laborers would be a great asset to the physically frail vahnatai. Okay, I'm done pushing strange theories today.

The dragons fled to Avernum to escape the Empire's persecution. They came down long before the first humans, but all of them were born on the surface.

—Alorael, who can give a slightly altered version Schro's explanation for the goblins. The peach-colored goblins of A1 were spewed into Avernum by the Nethergate (play through Nethergate if you don't understand). High mutation rates and short generations quickly resulted in the extinction of the peach species and the rise of the reddish goblins that already existed on the surface.

No. If they burn people and dance on their corpses, they're enemies of the US. Last time I checked, we're free to express dislike, resentment, or even hatred of our country. Constitutionally, anyway; the Patriot Act tends to disagree.

—Alorael, who needs to think before posting. Very badly, sometimes.

No, it wouldn't. The whites would all be dead of sunburn. That aside, I agree. But right now the whites are not the poorer group, generally, and racism compounds the issue.

—Alorael, who believes that AA is valuable to counteract that element of racism as well as the demographic tendency towards poverty. Don't downplay the racism; it's still very much alive, although less prominent. Just because nobody will say that they are racist doesn't mean that nobody is.

Giants are native to Avernum, because they certainly weren't banished and they seem quite at home. Goblins are native to everywhere.

—Alorael, who believes Ogre Magi get their power from demonic pacts. They certainly summon enough demons.
