The problem with the Blades of Geneforge idea is that the scenarios would be so insanely difficult. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. Guys are always aware of the thing that makes them a guy. Mr B: your post reminds me of something Cicero said: There's no statement so absurd that some philosopher hasn't said it. I'm not impressed. It's a lot easier to oppose than to propose. The longest surviving politicians seem to be the ones who permanently spent their time picking holes in everyone else's arguments, without ever making any of their own. Edit: and the post to Ash made absolutely no sense. Edit 2 (following M's reply): I rest my case. Aaaagh! It's an eye beast! I assume that's what you wanted people to say :) For a photo of me, go here. It's not very recent and I'm so far away I'm hardly visible [Edit: I exaggerate: I'm the guy in the shorts], but that's the way I like it. I enjoyed the riddles, but I can understand why Jeff has stopped doing them. Someone once woke me by phoning in the middle of the night to ask for help with one of the Exile II riddles. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. Summoned creats are just stupid, that's all. They're supposed to be on your side, but they are more of a liability than an asset: they get in the way, stopping you from reaching the enemy you want to kill;summoned spell-casters have a tendency to summon other, weaker creatures, flooding the battlefield;summoned creatures have a talent for using the least effective attack on the enemy (e.g. fire breath on a haakai);in Exile, summoned spell-casters infallibly cast area of effect spells all over your mages and other delicate characters;in A4, summoned creatures are likely to attack the enemy you have so carefully dazed and wake it up just in time so it can slaughter you;you waste AP summoning them when you could be either healing or attacking & having done so, you then feel obliged to let them kill at least one enemy, which draws out the battle even further.Lost experience is just the icing on the cake. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. Guys, I think you'll always be disappointed if you're hoping for the unexpected in Spidweb games. After all think who the villains turned out to be in Exile III, in Geneforge 3 and in Avernum 4. I suppose a meaningful plot twist - one that turns something upside down in some way - would be difficult to achieve in terms of game mechanics (too many NPCs' scripts becoming conditional, lots of special encounters and descriptions requiring ifs and elses). Not to mention the difficulty of trying to prevent players from messing it up by doing things before the revelation that ruin it (e.g. killing the wrong person). To me it's a miracle that the games have as many possibilities as they already do, considering it's a one-man show. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. Just the usual: books, CDs, DVDs, postcards, train timetables and maps, every ticket or receipt I've ever had, shoeboxes in which to keep the latter. That's about it, really - everything else I tend to dispose of when it's no longer required. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. hmmm, difficult to pick just one from each decade, but here goes... 1960s - Doctor Who 1970s - Columbo[*] 1980s - Yes, Minister 1990s - Frasier 2000s - CSI: Miami [*] Going by the start of the regular series rather than the first appearance. I think Thuryl was suggesting you should summon an aranea yourself, by casting summon aid or whatever and then attacking it. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. Unless you count the reason that you need it in order to win the game (some magic barriers can only be brought down by being next to quickfire). -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. Are you sitting comfortably? Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we had usenet/nntp. One of the best features of this was the "kill" file, which allowed one to suppress all posts by a particular individual, or even (with decent software) all posts matching a defined pattern. Those of us who used decent software also had the ability to flag posts in a variety of ways, e.g. read/sticky/etc, logically arrange threads and sub-threads, and so on. Happy days; now alas gone. My current ISP doesn't even provide nntp access (b*******!). -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. But then, that's not a complaint." -Scorpius Geneforge 4 stuff. Is this debate still going on? In the UK it's all done and dusted... Edit: As background, as most are probably not aware, in 2004 the UK government legislated to create civil partnership (which is equivalent to marriage in almost every detail). The move was spectacularly uncontroversial, it sailed through Parliament with cross-party support and virtually no opposition (even the right wing nutters only tried to amend it by tagging extra stuff on). Elton John got 'married' to his partner last autumn. Edit 2: The most amusing bit was Queen Elizabeth II announcing the measure in the State Opening of Parliament. That was true to a certain extent in A1 - but I have a feeling their attack may be weaker in A3 [maybe not absolutely, but relative to the rest of the game]. In any event I usually have enough shielding spells, armour, dexterity and endurance to made Doomguard attacks insignificant (<5% of total health each time, if they hit at all). They're still a pretty annoying monster though, what with the endless copies. More or less everything has been said before, one way or another. Ginger: my advice is, just forget about the runes and the secret shop, it's an easter egg and is completely irrelevant to your first run through the game. Just concentrate on beating Rentar-Ihrno for now, save the completism for replay value. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image.
