Amusing.

I remember a few of the oldbies *cough*TM*cough* trying to flame me back out when I joined the UBB in April 2002. But I stayed. :P

I didn't just flame you, I had you banned. That you're still around is, like, the red badge of freaking courage times a million. :P

I don't see how being banned can aid someone, unless you're implying that VWM would help himself by shutting up.

Actually, it can aid many people. The one banned just usually isn't one of them.

Didn't someone actually do this? I recall some mention of the "benalizer," which just filtered out all of ben's posts. Who was it who did that?

That would be Djur. I don't know how his program worked, though - whether it was a browser extension or some proxy filter, or some kind of Unix wizardry beyond comprehension.

Are you sitting comfortably? Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we had usenet/nntp. One of the best features of this was the "kill" file, which allowed one to suppress all posts by a particular individual, or even (with decent software) all posts matching a defined pattern. Those of us who used decent software also had the ability to flag posts in a variety of ways, e.g. read/sticky/etc, logically arrange threads and sub-threads, and so on. Happy days; now alas gone. My current ISP doesn't even provide nntp access (b*******!).

Just a bloody banned-aid.

Just a lame joke on the fact that the original red badge of courage referred to a bloody wound or bandage, at least in Crane's novel.

[Quoted myself quoting myself, when I meant to edit myself, so now I'm editing my edit, alas. Evidently I could use some aid too.]

Some banned-aid? Don't you think that's a little extreme?
