Worst Game EVER! in General

Hey, I liked Rockstar. You're talking about the text game by Wizard Games, right? I wish there was some way to slow down my computer so it would be playable, but the text flies by too fast to read.

I liked Civ 1. Civ 2 was great. But I absolutely hated Civ 3. It's the game I most regret spending money on.

I remember back when my computer ran DOS 3.3 as an OS and everyone thought a 32 MB HD was 'more space than you'll ever need!'. The man I went on to marry (and later divorce) said 'hey I've got this cool new game. You'll love it'. It was Commander Keen. I absolutely hated it. Is anyone really surprised that I divorced him, given his poor judgement in computer games ...

And if we're talking about games we hate - who could forget 'MinerVGA'

What screen resolution were you using to play the game? (ie When the game prompted you to reset the screen resolution, which option did you select?)

I don't think Jeff would be willing to put that much work into a game. I mean, 4 different paths? He seems a little too lazy to do that.

I think it would be slightly unfair if you could choose to be a vahnatai. I mean, for sliths, you get pole weapon bonus. For nephlim, you get thrown missle and bow and arrow bonus. For vahnatai, you would get not only bonuses in fighting with melee weapons and throwables, you would get a bonus with magic.

I would like to see new spells as well. Maybe incorporate the spells from Exile and throw them in.

I dunno.

Like Thuryl, I live in Australia.

My uni's semester dates for the year just finished were:

Semester 1: 1st March to 6th June.
Semester 2: 26th July to 31st October.

These dates don't include the exam period. When the semester is finished we get a week to prepare for exams, then the exams are held over the next week or two. Each semester also has a 2 week break in the middle of the semester.

My semester 1 subjects didn't have exams (social science degree) - the grades were based 80% on essays and 20% on tutorials. In comparison, my son (who is studying math & computing) had exams for all his subjects. So my break started 3 weeks earlier than his.

Welcome to Spiderweb boards.

People here can get grouchy if dead topics are revived, or if you make more than one post in a row in a topic (that's what the edit button is for), and there are some who get really grouchy over bad spelling.

If you want to lose respect fast make lots of pointless posts that don't add anything to the issue under discussion, type in AOLspeak, and never EVER say anything that is remotely intelligent.

One final word of warning: Don't forget to leave your sanity at the door.

I preferred the Awakened until I found their major flaw.

The major flaw I found with the Awakened was when they wanted me to do their dirty work. They claim they wanted to avoid violence - but what they meant was they wanted no blood on their hands, and it didn't matter to them if my character sold out her own people and got her hands dirty.

I prefer the Trajkov ending. I wanted the serviles to be free and treated with respect, and Trajkov delivered on that.

When I left high school I went on to University to become a mathematician. A semester of advanced algebra and advanced calculus later I realised it wasn't for me.

Worked for a few years in an office then went and had kids.

Spent a decade working in government welfare organisation, but was getting more stress from management than I was from the clients.

This year daughter left home, son started university, and I went back to uni. Want to be an anthropologist. Love to write, except when its to a deadline - hmm ... maybe I should forget about academia.

If you just want to make something simple and you're not after RPG or RTS, why not think about doing a computer version of a real life game eg: chess, patience/solitaire, backgammon, scrabble, monopoly (although watch out for copyright issues with games like scrabble & monopoly). Or make a quiz, a crossword puzzle or a collection of different puzzle type games. Alternatively, you could make new versions of the early computer games eg: pong, breakout or tetris.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

In combat mode you can move your spellcasters until they have 1 AP left and then cast a spell - giving the opportunity to move and cast in one turn. You just can't do it the other way around (ie cast a spell and then move in the same turn) unless you've got sufficient extra AP.

BTW, I wouldn't say your character 'does nothing' when casting spells. Clearly the spells are doing something, or you wouldn't bother casting them.

I don't know that it has been slow. I wasn't here for a few days and when I came back I selected 'show last 10 days'. There were 4 pages of posts, so it's been reasonably busy.

EDIT: Although, on second thoughts, I think at least one of those 4 pages may have been the 30 or so topics that all received posts from one person on the same day. So maybe the board is slowing as the rush from the windows release dies down.

improvements for geneforge 3.... your thoughts in Geneforge Series

Here's some of my comments on the suggestions made by mystiprisme

2. IIRC the game made it clear that you would be unable to open the door. Sounds like you got frustrated when you continued to try to open the door after that. That's not a flaw in the game, in my opinion. BTW, in case you haven't worked it out yet, the door is intended to be a 'teaser' for GF3, unanswered questions and all. I don't see which 'key character' could deliver the speech you mention - different games end up with different key characters being dead.

5. Me too! Greater use of keyboard would be great (it would be nice if the game recognised the enter key as being the same as clicking on a 'tick' mark).

6. I think that's a flaw that's inherent in combining real-time movement and turn-based combat system. This combination is one of the plusses of the GF engine for me, even if it does have unintended side-effects.

7. You can record character speeches - I did that for all the EQ quests, and deleted their speeches from my journal as I completed those quests. Those quests are different to normal quests - you are not doing a favour for them, they are doing a favour for your character.

8. Items are storable - wherever anybody wants to store them. That means you can have up to around 150-200 (I think) different items in every single zone (including items already there that you didn't loot). Even if you only store of fraction of the limit per zone, if you multiply that by the number of zones - then you've got a LOT of storage. I don't see why you'd want to limit that very extensive storage ability to a 'storage room' or 'storage closet' just for the sake of neatness.

I thought divinely touched was supposed to boost strength, dexterity and endurance every 7 (or is it 8?) levels. But I'm finding it's boosting strength, dexterity and intelligence.

Is this the way it's supposed to work, or is this a bug in the windows version?

It could be a corrupted download. Try downloading it again to see if it makes a difference.

If that doesn't work, please provide more information (such as what OS you are running, whether anything is running in the background, does this happen with other software you try to run)

NEWBIE HELP PLACE in Blades of Avernum
Infiltrator
Member # 2628

You're new here Micael, so you may not realise there are some 'unwritten' rules here.

People here don't like double posts (that is 2 consecutive posts in a thread). It's better to edit the first post than it is to make 2 posts in a row.

While we're on the subject, another thing people don't like is reviving dead topics. I've seen you reviving topics that are over a week old - as a rule of thumb consider any topic that nobody's posted in for 3 or 4 days to be 'dead'.

This post is intended as friendly advice :)

Kyna

EDIT: To be on topic ... the whole forum is a 'newbie help place'. To put it all in one thread would mean a hugely spammy topic. The board has a search feature for people to find the info they're looking for, or (as I did when I started playing Spiderweb games) newbies can look at posts that are older than the default 5 days. Not to mention the documentation that comes with the download, which provides a walkthrough for VoDT.

In addition to what Thuryl and Schrodinger said ... when I'm in combat mode I've find that the NPCs will only fight if they can see the enemy.

If you start a fight and the NPC is around a corner and can't see who you're fighting, they won't move or join in.
