This is a noncompetitive monopoly acquisition. EB Games and Gamestop are the two largest small game outlets. Without competition, they will be able to fix prices and set costs for distributors. This is going to drive many of the commercial game software companies out of business. It should have been an illegal move. Nobody is paying attention to antitrust litigation right now. If I had heard about this this morning, I could have made a 10% profit by the end of the day. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. There is a new scenario in the Untried and Untested tables-- Crescent Valley. I finished it last night. Two questions-- any idea how to get into the Watchers tower and where is the ladies bracelet-- can't find it. Get this one quick. There are some special surprises in it that might get it removed. Mr. Slack also made the infamous sailor scenario for Blades of Exile. :P -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I would like to have some unique things about each species of character. Unique weapons, buildings, armor, clothes, weapons, statues, food for each type of character. Background stuff. Slith, Nephilim, and Human should be developed more. Put together a history for each character type -- 3-4 pages in the manual. Kilts, yes we need kilts and tartans. Most of these works are fictional. Who has a favorite nonfiction author? I am reading Jared Diamond's Collapse How Societies Choose To Fail or Succeed right now. I will follow it up with Guns, Germs, and Steel by Diamond next. So far, it is very interesting to read. Not the absolute best, but very entertaining. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I think if you buy Saljuq first then you can get Maximilian. If you buy Max first you can't get Saljuq. I did it also. I am no good at scripting and got both. Saljuq is great for a priest/alchemist-- because it allows the priest to heal the party at the beginning of the turn before the monsters attack. If you need your partys character to act first it is better than Maximilian. Here goes further questions about singletons. 1) Tool use strategy-- I don't buy much tool use and instead put it into strength-- for doorbusting. To open chests that are trapped I cast Enduring barrier beforehand then heal. What strategy do you use for trap busting. 2) One of the weaknesses of a singleton is the need to get open doors as a spellcaster. I am working towards putting 6 levels of spellcaster then open doors. I probably won't go beyond that because I can use piercing crytals to dispel barriers. 3) The other weakness is a lot of cleric spells are useless like mass healing, mass curing, raise dead. I think I may stop buying spell levels after level 12 in cleric. I am thinking 6 levels mage, 12 levels cleric, then upping my potion making until I get invulnerability elixir. Strategies anyone. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. If you want a truly grotesque combination. A couple of broken weapons that are unmentionable are the Hidden City Spear, Blessed Vahnati Bow and the Master Sword from Undead Valley. 1) Warrior-- Hidden City Spear 2) Warrior-- Master Sword and Alderauge or Blessed Vahnati Bow (Micael deserves to be given the ultimate booby prize for this one.) 3) Cleric-- Saljuq 4) Hedge Wizard-- Morog's Scepter, Spear of Kalthas. The other weapons which break the game are thrown diamonds 1-8 +1-8/level throwing and pilum. I rather like the idea of diamond tossing. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. TM your list of authors reads like a high school reading list. There is nothing particular deep about the authors listed. They are all simplistic cannon. A few might have written literary masterpieces, but overall it is very limited. The only two authors who stand out on the list are James Joyce-- Ulysses and Vladimir Nabokov-- Lolita. Two truly groundbreaking works of literature. Also, the philosophers listed are very nineteenth century country gentlemen type authors. They may have flamed great philosophical passion; but as people they were very staid. The people who grabbed their ideas and stepped up to the barricades were not. I find the radicalism you are expressing to be very genteel radicalism. Berkeley professorial radicalism. Go to a protest for the popular oppressed person of the day, have some tea, visit the local green party headquarters to discusss the new environmental law the committee is trying to pass. Wander around the bookstore in the afternoon. Go play some computer games. Profess intellectual communism as a pure idea. It makes me smile. :) -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Ah the feeling for damned popular idiotic classics. I despise many of the classics because they are popular trash... F. Scott Fitzgerald, should be shot by Shakespeare. William Carlos Williams is a great writer but writes in a very tame floral style. Put a few authors with some fire in their writing out here for people to read. Lets put some raw authors with real credentials here. Jonathan Carroll Charles Bukowski Nicholas Mosley Theodore Roethke Diane Wakoski C.L. Moore Octavia Butler L. Sprague De Camp-- Admittedly a terrible writer, but a great storyteller. The Odyssey, The Iliad, The Aenaeid Lucretius- De Rerum Naturae Apuleius-- The Golden Ass Musashi-- The Book of Five Ring Numerous nonfiction writers-- the tip of the iceberg. I am interested in your strategies of using a singleton versus spellcasters. How do you build up spell resistance, fight multiple spell casters at once. I find it is fairly easy to handle melee combat as a singleton. I am running up against problems versus spell casters. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Well actually the reason she wears a bikini and not say adamantine full plate mail with six inch razor sharp poisoned spikes (like any sensible adventurer would wear) is because it is a magical amazon brass bikini like the kind you see on the covers of old fantasy paperbacks. It gives the power of the amazon queen . Of course only initiates of the amazon warrior test can use it so it doesn't appear as an item when she dies. :P So there. I haven't been out to the movies lately. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is coming out in theaters on April 29, 2005 and I would really like to see it. Hopefully it will be very good. I am waiting on seeing the movie version of Frank Miller's Sin City; I found the graphic novel to be a bit excessively violent even for my tastes. I liked 300 however by Frank Miller. I will probably wait until I have a bunch of free time. I think I'd be cross eyed after watching it for an hour or two. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Morog's Scepter is in the Za Khazi run, you have to kill the lich Morog to get it. Pilums are in the new scenario by Kelandon, Lord Putidus. The other option is to have light missile weapons with high damage effects-- poisoned shuriken, blow guns, flaming razor disks, javelins of lightning, razor edged chakram, acid squirt qun. Morog's Scepter is as game breaking as Adlerauge if handled by a really powerful mage. Throw on a wizard's cap, robes of the archmagi, and a mages bracelet and Morog's Scepter does a lot of damage. Don't forget the Blessed Vahnati Bow in Undead Valley-- a truly ridiculous weapon. I have suspicions about why I voted now. There is a gnome around the corner who is whispering about whether or not he likes me, but I cannot see him. Should I listen to the gnome or should I trust the nice posters. Cut it out. There are plenty of people who would love to be hated on these forums. Don't worry about whether you are liked or not. It is cheesy. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. It is very simple they put all the decent souls in one place and they call it heaven. Then they put all the bastards in one place and it becomes hell. The ones who are undecided on whether they are a bastard or not, or are just confused end up in limbo. 1) More spells both priest and mage. 2) An improved alchemy system. 3) A crafting skill where you get to make items. 4) An option to do large scale strategic combat-- when a group of NPCs join your party for example in battle you can command portions of them to do certain things. Possibly, a strategy element added. 5) Greater flexibility in combat. The ability to pull special moves when you advance in skill level to certain points. Charging, all out attacks, total defense, etc. 6) At high levels -- leadership points. After level 50. The ability to persuade NPCs to do things. 7) An improved system for dealing with traps-- tool use simply does not cut it very well. 8) An improved inventory control system with more slots. 9) An improved dialog editor. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Missile Weapons In Avernum are not so good. Could someone work on adding a few improved missile weapons. There is Morog's Scepter and the Pilum, but there aren't a whole lot of decent missile weapons. Slings do not run out of ammunition but they are fairly weak. Staff Sling, Spear Thrower, Kukri, Throwing Axe, etc. Some missile weapons which I might like to see are poisoned throwing dagger, javelin of lightning, flaming razor disks, etc. Add some effects to thrown weapons. Even something like a magical hand grenade would be good. Bows and crossbows are much stronger than thrown weapons. Also they have a much greater variety of ammunition-- acid arrows, arrows of light, steel arrows, iron arrows, blessed bolts, etc. There are also a bunch of nice magical bows Klinger's Bow, Alderauge, Quickfire Crossbow, etc. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh.
