Welcome to General, leave your... hmm... on second thought, does General need a Misc-style sanity-hanger? Well, anyway, if it does, leave yours at the door. If not, you'd better be prepared to defend it tooth and nail. Wild eyes watched from beneath the fallen pillars of a ruined shrine. Heaven knew what gods had resided here, but they were gone now; no god would allow so many demons around. None that he knew of, anyway. The rising of the sun eliminated many of the shadows from his vision; he saw them skittering away, deep into the woods. When the last demon left the clearing, he stretched and rose. Another sleepless night like this might kill him, but then, so would the demons, if they found him. Grabbing a stick for support, he began chewing on the last of his salted meat and set off towards Selmar. A flash of darkness startled his cloudy mind, and he bolted like a rabbit. He could feel more than hear the demon behind him, a dark blot in an otherwise beautiful landscape. His mind fell back as his legs took over; a tree scratched his face, and the scent of blood made him run still faster. He threw the stick wildly, and was rewarded with an inhuman screech; the demon paused and then, with a howl, launched itself at him furiously. The sun passed overhead, unnoticed; the dark shadows passed away, the trees, the streams, the birds... and then he was sleep-running, his mind shut down, his eyes shut tight. He tripped over a rock and hit the ground, already unconscious, and sank into blissful rest. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. lolz i'm not kewl cuz i dont have a sense of humor lik djur and not cool peopl with a sense of humor not like djur's are just begging strong bad to put it right between their legs You're right about not being able to explain humor, but you could have answered my question, at least. I said that Penny Arcade is not as funny as H*R; I also said that I don't find Penny Arcade at all amusing. How does that make me a Strong Bad fanatic? -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. What's so great about Penny Arcade? I read their newest stuff in an attempt to find a bit of humor - I stopped after forcing myself to laugh once or twice and struggling not to fall asleep the rest of the time. Are their older ones better? EDIT: Somebody start a webcomic poll. I don't know enough of them to do it myself. Penny Arcade? Are you kidding? However childish H*R is, Penny Arcade doesn't even compare. I say that's one of the most overrated humorous websites, not H*R. On that note, Bigger Than Cheeses is just plain hilarious and is far more entertaining than H*R, which I quite like. If he'd just get rid of the rants, it would be perfect. EDIT: OK, OK, it's capitalized. God, God, another stream... he splashed through it, panting, and looked over his shoulder. A dark shape exploded into a sickly red; the demon's howl pierced his ears, and he screamed in agony. He stumbled into a tree, fell to the ground, and crawled desperately away from the demon. Bones dug into his skin, severed fingers, shattered skulls - no, just rocks, he thought, looking down at the ground. Just rocks. He lurched to his feet, swayed, and looked fearfully behind him. He signed in relief - the demon was gone. To find a land route, he thought. Or to block the stream. Water was a useful barrier, but not a permanent one. He reached for his pouch and drew several maps from it. Finding the right one, he leaned against a tree and peered closely. The cavern was in this direction, he thought. No, the other way. He closed his eyes, trying to remember. If the stream was behind him... he looked back at it. No bend in sight. He looked at the map again, finally locating himself. God! A crossing no more than half a mile away! Only the weakest demons would be hindered by such a crossing. He looked around himself frantically, his mind hardly functioning. The world was in shadow; even since he had left that cavern, his pick thrown wildly at the advancing hordes, his vision had been drained of color. The river, he thought suddenly, looking once again at his map. He had drawn a symbol for inhabitable ruins just on the other side of a bend. He stuffed the map back into the pouch, checked over his shoulder once more, and set off for the river. He knew that the demon would catch him anyway, eventually - they always did. But if they had, why was he still alive? He shook his shaggy head as if trying to throw the parasitic confusion off and began running. Maybe he could make the ruins by nightfall. OOC: He's at the opposite end of the valley and may not meet any of you, except possibly Drakey, for a while. And don't worry - by that time, you'll know more about him. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. Well, I hate to say this, but... *takes the plunge* how is boycotting sweat shops a good thing? I mean, think about it. They're not being payed much, but they're at least getting something, which is better than the alternative: nothing. Maybe a large boycott could convince the Western businesses to clean up their act. Maybe it would force them to close down the sweat shops entirely, turning that something into nothing once more. Hey, I don't like the conditions and the pay any more than you do. I just think that there must be a better solution than letting those children and their families starve to death because our scruples will not allow them even a small part of what they need. Working 24/7 for peanuts is better than sitting around 24/7 for nothing. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. Uh... hadn't we already established that the old topics are not going to be deleted? Someone, I think it was Drakey, said we'd never run out of space. *sigh* Good luck and thanks to those saving old topics. If Firebird has a save option, I don't know where it is. Would IE, Netscape, or Camino work? And if so, what exactly do I do? I'm willing to help. *sigh* Alec, you know very well that I said nothing about Christianity; you and Morgan were the only ones who mentioned it. Funny how the ultra-con fundie doesn't think about pulling religion into the conflict while the oh-so-pure liberals are eager to do so... I think the refining companies may care more than you think, especially when their customers begin to demand change. I mean, not everyone is a kind-hearted as you are, but I'm sure there are a few out there, and they have no reason to avoid the cell phone industry like the plague. Conditions are horrible almost everywhere; Rwanda, Uganda, and the Congo are by no means alone in that. The wars are funded in many ways, not just by coltan, and anyway, as I said, why not go to the source of the problem? Coltan would not be used to fund African wars if there were no African wars. If you think a widespread boycott on Congolese coltan will end the wars, you are dead wrong. These people are flexible; coltan mining is not the only source of money they can find. Even if the boycott worked, they would simply move on to something else and we'd have the same problem all over again. We must go to the sources, whatever they are; coltan is not a source of these conflicts. People die over coltan, yes; people die over many things. Taking coltan out of the picture would only free up a spot for something else to take its place. I said from the beginning that Iraq was not about WMD, and that setting up a democratic system would not be easy. It hasn't failed yet; you don't know that it will. Denouncing Nokia as a participant in warfare, slavery, and genocide is ridiculous. Alec, honestly, what is wrong with you? You make it sound like I enjoy slaughtering innocent civilians, like I'd support a war just for that purpose. Are you incredibly stupid, or do you ignore everything I say that doesn't support your assumptions and your purposes, or do you just like making offhand comments about people, Christians like yourself, not caring about death and destruction and even taking part in it for no reason other than to line their pockets? If you'd actually pay attention, you'd know that my motives have absolutely nothing to do with oil, and everything to do with freedom and a good future. What you say and imply about me is, quite simply, slanderous. Of course, you don't care. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. Exactly. Lions in zoos, too. Not that it's reasonable to expect lions in the wild to stick to purely vegetarian diets, but they don't actually need meat. Anyway, what about omnivores such as, say, birds and chipmunks? They could stick to purely vegetarian diets if they wanted to, or if they had to; they generally do not. There are probably a few that are purey carnivorous. Nothing wrong with that, right? Yet when a human does it, it's murder. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. Don't fly? Did you swim to Switzerland? Why do people complain about humans eating animals, but not about animals eating animals? Where are the "meat is murder" protesters when a lion pounces on a gazelle? Sure, humans aren't restricted to meat in their diets, but neither are lions. There are always alternatives. Hunting for fun, for trophies, for skin, or for money disgusts me. Hunting for food, however, is perfectly fine. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass. Morgan, give me proof that TGM's cell phone is funding terrible, bloody wars and I will agree with you completely. However, the article states that "in recent months many electronics companies have publicly rejected the use of coltan from anywhere in Central Africa, instead relying on their main suppliers in Australia." Not "making their suppliers in Australia their main ones"; it specifically says that the main suppliers, as it stands, are in Australia. Not only that, but the cell phone companies are now relying even more heavily on what were already their main suppliers. As for me, I don't have a cell phone. I've been in countless situations where it would have been very useful to have one, but my parents, afraid that we'd rack up huge bills, refuse to buy them for our family. I don't feel like spending the money, myself. That really is ugly, TGM, but does it matter? I mean, who buys cell phones for decoration? Other than... half my school... um... not TGM, anyway. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL In case of emergency, break glass.
