Wait, wait, wait.

The administration forcefully changes my name because "Tentacle Monster Revolution" is taboo, whereas "Hang Out with your Wang Out" is somehow okay?
That's just BS. I'm changing my name back, and I don't want to see this anymore.

Presumably, Alec, bizarre unmotivated posts about tentacle rape are okay over at Desp? If they're not, I apologise. It really is a much more mature community than I had thought. But I doubt it.

But really, as Thuryl said, that can't possibly be CoC-compliant - here at least. If TM wants to act that way he could go back to Desp or to some other website. I don't want to see it.

And so I return "it" (whatever "it" may be) back to you, unstuffed.

Kel - Sorry, I just don't take links to Desp. It's not safe.

Creator, it's less what is stuffed, and what it's stuffed with.

That said, what's so bad about a tentacle monster? I mean, did Cthulh_ (can't say it...!) suddenly become sexually gratuitous? Hell, Jeff features the Alien Slime in E3/A3. You're telling me that isn't a proud member of my species?

Okay, yes, but not altogether common. A more than cursory look would reveal that the signal to noise ratio isn't as bad as you'd t hink.

But really, as Thuryl said, that can't possibly be CoC-compliant - here at least. If TM wants to act that way he could go back to Desp or to some other website. I don't want to see it.

Djur and I don't go around ranting about tentacle rape, now, do we? The Desperance folks tend to keep a mildly civil tongue in our heads in regular discourse, thank you, and as far as what's appropriate for SW and what isn't, well, I'd probably be faster than you'd prefer to ask between you and the Desp regulars, who has the most community experience and collected moderatorial tenure.
I agree with your point: this is not the proper forum for tentacle rape. And don't get me wrong, I don't just take sides between you and TM in the silly little feud the two of you seem to be having on. If it weren't for the unnecessary and frankly rather mindless slur, I would have agreed with your statement out of hand and this discussion wouldn't have happened.
General gist: Desperance is not a cesspool, thanks, so stop treating us like one. We've had to deal with more than one incoherent idiot from SW because of the common misconception that the bollocks and butternut squash are the only things Desp does worth mentioning.

It'd be as blatantly unfair as people lobbying to shut down the Lyceum boards, calling them nothing but a forum for anti-Vogel abuse and an obvious drain on SW business. Of course, the Lyceum hasn't ever been a persecuted, misunderstood minority; somewhat-ignored plurality is about as bad as things have ever gotten for 'em.

TM: Tone it down. Let it be known I find the sexual innuendo inappropriate for SW and you ought to knock it the hell off.
Read that real thorough. I'm not saying OMG YOU HORRIBLE HORRIBLE BAD SWEARY MAN, I'm saying that there's a community standard and this is pretty clearly outside it. Besides which, I don't particularly feel like taking a bullet for looking like I'm defending something 'incorrect'.

If you start whining about being censored, you can take your censorship and put it where the sun fails to shine; I got banned for the word 'fagotville', where you've deliberately dodged profanity filters and gotten away scot-free. Djur got banned with me for using a dictionary. Something to reflect on before it occurs to you to bash Desp for being all dirty and impolite, I guess, but maybe that's a subject for another topic.

...

All of that said, has it occurred to either of you to declare that the remainder of the exchange shall be continued through seconds and be done with it? Either that or bury the Goddamn hatchet. I think we're all more than a little tired of the inane bickering.

I think a real sign of maturity is the ability to deal with content that might offend you without getting your knickers in a knot and demanding it be removed. I assume everyone at Desperance is an intelligent, mature individual who isn't going to have a seizure at the mere mention of the word "wang."

In addition, Desperance is hardly a smut factory. When people post inline images that I don't really care to see again and again, I edit the post and replace it with a link. There's no reason someone shouldn't follow a link to Desp.

In conclusion,

EDIT: And I totally concur with Alec's post above mine, unless he changes it to "HEIL HITLER BUAUGUAUGUH" or something.

That was so...'Desp-ish' of you Djur. Either way, we all really need to calm down. Maybe it is finally time for this topic to die.

I agree with Djur. What is Desp but a place for bonding in a male sort of way. There is no porn (Photoshopped male wangs are not porn, they are art!) and goatse is goatse, not porn.

Also, talking about getting your knickers in a knot, Desperance has many girly posters and one of them is the sweet and innocent* Saunders! Now if that isn't a big sign of approval, I don't know what is.

*Just don't read her stories or join our chatrooms and she is the very image of sweetness. ^^

That was my first thought upon viewing Arctic's post, as well. I saw "girly posters," and then "Saunders," and was about ready to pass into a state of catatonia.

So... Desperance is a pool that is clearly intended for swimming in, but does allow cess as well. Anyone who is bothered by said cess is clearly too immature to swim at Desp. And it is most certainly not a cesspool. It is at least 90% water.

Got it.

I think the major difference is that Desperance just has fewer censorship rules. Desp is not inherently obscene or not obscene; it contains whatever its members post. That doesn't mean that Djur encourages posts involving tentacle rape or goatse or whatever. He just doesn't censor them, because Desp is the place where we can talk about whatever we want. If some of that happens to turn into poems about sexual organs, then so be it. If, on the other hand, it becomes a discussion of Pygmalion, then that's fine, too.

I guess one could interpret the Creator's original post as meaning something along the lines of, "This is Spiderweb and it does in fact have prior restraint limits to free speech, unlike Desperance, so follow the CoC," which is a legitimate comment in its primary intention. Still, my feeling is, leave it to the mods of the topic. If something needs to be said about a post in General, then Imban, Schrodinger, Saunders, or Alorael will say it. I say this based on knowing nothing, though.

Also, bringing Desp into it was unnecessary. TM hasn't posted at Desperance the entire time that I've been around (which admittedly hasn't been very long, but still).

And Djur's right: unless text alone can really, really offend you, following a link TO Desperance is safe. Following a link FROM Desperance might be questionable, though.

And if I may, I again support the idea of the Creator and TM laying off each other for a bit. We all know that you two don't like each other and think the other is an inflated, self-important, mediocre designer, but the fact of the matter is that you're both important to the Blades community, and we'd be poorer without you two. So keep the feuding to an occasional snipe, for everyone's sake.

What reasons do you have, exactly, for this sudden outpouring of wangrage? We've already explained to you what Desperance is and isn't. For your part, you've stated that you refuse to click on any Desp. related links, meaning that you clearly haven't visited the site in recent times. And yet, you continue to spout your meaningless, uninformed fool opinions. That's just grand.

EDIT: Realized that Kel posted before me. This post was in response to The Creator's post.

I was pleasantly unaware that Creator and I were in a "feud". That's not to say that I agree with him by any stretch of the word, but...

First thing's first. I still don't understand the big deal about tentacle monsters- sexually explicit material is nixed, but how can a physically impossible situation with something that doesn't even exist? (And it's not like the administration has been very stern in this either- note, for instance, Arctic's title.) Plenty... ...fantasy situations (ie. Shounen-Ai) have been posted before. If you extrapolate it into something even more ridiculous...

Imban has used pictures of Kaoru Nagisa and Shinji Ikari. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing that's so "wrong" in comparison.

(And FYI- 1) Linda is a horrible administrator, and 2) I was banned for avoiding the word filters.)

There's nothing more entertaining than lurking around watching too serious people bash each other with tentacle rape porn. God bless the internet.

I will continue in lurking state. Don't let me down, boys.

EDIT: And then seriously. Sullust is right. Cold-blooded murder for the sake of humanity is required. Which of the mods will dare to make the move?

I think we are forgetting that not all of the members here are as old as the rest of us. I'd personally prefer it that the youngest didn't go and ask their mothers what this tentacle thing is all about. The only way to prevent this is not to post it.

I'm not going to censor myself, Sullust; I've always very much disagreed with that arguement. If a parent finds material objectionable, it's their damn job to keep it out of their home, not society's.

I see nothing particularly wrong with any posts or names here. The contents of TM's post before editing will sadly (or not, for all I know) remain a mystery to me.

If the occasioanl wang slips into a post, nobody is going to collapse in an apoplectic fit. Just try not to go into too much detail about the circumstances and events surrounding said wang.

—Alorael, who would rather keep explicit posts, unreal or not, off of Spiderweb. Beyond that, tentacle monsters in a wholesome, evil elder god and/or Arctic-like implied awfulness kind of way should be perfectly fine.

"Mommy! Mommy! What's a tentacle??"

No, anyway, seriously, I would agree that unless it is explicit, there's nothing wrong with a bit of "as the actress said to the bishop..." humour (or serious in SOME cases).
