This must be one of the longest topics ever on Spidweb, but I want to know why on earth people like to change their names, like, 50 times?

Because we can?

The PDN is an artistic expression. It is a mood, a state of mind, a philosophical statement, expressed on 35 alphanumerical(?) characters. :P

Edit:

That said, there have been longer topics. The longest topic I have seen (and probably the longest ever, though I can't be sure) was exactly 1002 posts long, and 41 pages. That was the "What music are you listening to?" topic.

Before my time, easily. I remember a couple of weeks ago someone in the member range 500-1000 saying something about it, but I can't be so sure on the details. 'Music Preference' is doing quite well though, however it seems small and insignificant compared to TM's topic.

Yes, yes. I'm considered a redneck then in both our parts. :P

Could you maybe post a link to it here? Incidentally, what was the longest topic that was locked?

One of the Nephils vs. Sliths topics got to, like, 1100 posts.

I killed "What Are You Listening To?" with post 1001, I thought. Hm.

Why? Was it merely turning into constant spam, or was there a flame war? Or were you sick of it?

1001 replies probably. On the forum page, UBB does not count the first post in a topic, so a topic with one post will show up as having "0 replies".

You'd think 1000 posts of discussion about music would turn in to 'lock the topic' material sometime. The "Return of What are you listening to?" topic got much less far. Needless to say, this is by far the longest topic I've yet posted in.

I think Imban should have left the "Do you think there is a hell" topic alone, though. :P

The music thread in question basically went like this:
(Poster 1): (band name) - (song title)
(Poster 2): (band name) - (song title)
(Poster 3): (band name) - (song title)
(Poster 1): (band name) - (song title)
(Poster 4): (band name) - (song title)
(Poster 2): (band name) - (song title)
for 1001 posts. The whole thing was spam.

The lap-hangers cruise around the main street of Warrnambool in 'hotted up' cars that they parade for all to see. Most of the time, its pathetic, but sometimes there are some good cars that cruise around. A lot of the pepole doing it are P platers with nothing better to do.

...Which is why it should have been locked much sooner than it actually did. But I guess if the topic had a shot at 1000, you should let it get there.

Some of the RPs have gotten extraordinarily long. Perhaps due to their length they started having glitches. Saunders saved the day by locking the broken threads and starting new ones.

—Alorael, who knows that was true for the Inn RP. Did it also happen to "Everyone Join" or any others?

Yes, but what does any of that have to do with laps or hanging?

Just a guess but... lap as in 'a lap around the track' and hanging as in 'hanging around the strip' or even as in 'hang a left/right' as doing so four times would commence a circle.

Hunh.

And to think, I thought it was a euphemism for hanging ballsacks.

They hang laps around the main street's round-abouts. They go around them, back down to the next one, and then up again. Its also a trend for them to be listening to the latest incoherent music on the market on their sub-woofers.

I just answered the question... I didn't ask it.

I am actually unsure where our strip is, but I'm sure there is one. Hard to tell since the roads here are very screwy winding their way around lakes and beside rivers. I'll have to ask hubby. Surely he knows.

Cruisers are a alcoholic beverage where I come from, and are very tasty at that.

But when you get down to it, the name is not really important, is it? Cruisers, lap-hangers, they both mean the same.

...Ooh, different names for the same beverage. :D

We could have a debate over whether to call this "flavored carbonated water" pop, soda, cola, or some other such thing, because in Montana, it's pop.

In stupid states, it tends to be pop.

Soda. 'Cola' refers specifically to the dark ones and 'pop' just sounds dumb.

The vast majority of people in the Chicago area tend to call it pop, but for some reason I've always called it soda.
