I don't foresee sellable skills being a balance problem. Cash is pretty tight for HLPM-generated parties, especially at high levels -- once you've bought all the spells you need, there's not much left. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Yeah, it's gone from doing mediocre damage to a few targets to doing heavy damage plus slowing to a single target. On the whole, it's an improvement. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

quote:No need for a huge hormonal surge if you don't need to prepare your body for pregnancy. On the other hand, you're still going to want to prepare to lactate, among other things, so there's going to be some excess hormones running around. quote:Hey, so it turns out studying marsupial reproductive biology does come in handy in the real world after all. Marsupials manage to give birth to extremely underdeveloped young basically by having organs which are essential for life outside the uterus (like the lungs) develop rapidly, while others (like the digestive tract) are in a much less developed state. So basically, having human babies born at a much earlier stage of development would be feasible, but they'd be exclusively dependent on breast milk for a much longer period until their digestive system was fully developed. Also, since the brain would have to be born in an underdeveloped state (since the head is basically the biggest part of the baby), that means the skull would have to be soft for a considerable length of time after birth while the brain continued to expand, rendering young babies highly vulnerable to head injuries. The underdevelopment of the brain would also mean that much more care would be required on the mother's part, since the baby would be essentially incapable of fending for itself at all for quite some time. Marsupials have the benefit of pouches to protect their young; humans don't. (Although since we're already proposing that they lay eggs, I suppose they can have pouches too if you really want.) You will notice that the only person who has actually complained about your post in the other forum wasn't even a moderator. Big secret: the mods here will give you a lot of leeway about discussion of h*x-*d*t*ng, as long as you don't actually say "h*x-*d*t*ng". In all seriousness, I think part of what Jeff is worried about is that people will follow someone's instructions on how to h*x-*d*t their save files, neglect to make a backup, do it wrong, wreck their saved games and then come crying to him. So if you must discuss h*x-*d*t*ng, it's best to give few enough details that they don't even have enough information to try. I think BoA probably had the worst combat engine of any of the Avernums. I mean, it's cool just because it's BoA, but Jeff basically took to everything that was neat about A3 with a king-sized nerf bat. Especially mages. Damaging spells all received a huge cost hike, and there's no more mass haste spell. :( (I do like the deterministic lockpicking system, among other things -- in a way, we see a lot of the good things about A4 in embryonic form in BoA. But that doesn't make up for the fact that mages got seriously hosed.) I think he means the Electrified Field. Anyway, basically you have to follow the south and east wall of the zone all the way round to the north, using all the spore boxes as you go to disable some of the pylons. And don't walk between two pylons if there are little balls of energy going between them. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure!
