In other words, the explanation basically boils down to "he's just that badass".

I actually meant the 750-strings-per-script limit.

Besides, just because a limit is a power of 2, doesn't mean it's not arbitrary.

They're both working pretty hard to wipe out the Trakovites, and the Trakovites don't even pose a real threat. The shapers and rebels may not stop killing each other to more efficiently kill you, but that doesn't mean they'll stop killing you to more efficiently kill each other either.

We're not arguing about whether it increases your displayed resistance; we're arguing about whether the displayed resistance reflects the actual resistance. In other words, have you, say, let a submission turret attack you 100 times with and without extra luck and seen whether it affects the average number of AP you lose?

This isn't just speculation; every point of luck in Avernum 4 supposedly increased your elemental resistances, but controlled testing showed that it didn't actually make a damn bit of difference -- you took just as much damage with 10 luck as with 0.

Still a bit odd when the creations in question are drayks or gazers, though.

Back on topic, as far as I know there's only one actual gameplay-affecting difference to the plot if you play a servile: Glick, the quartermaster in Derenton Freehold, will charge you slightly lower prices if you're a servile.

Are there actually 512 distinct monster types that can appear in the scenario? You can afford to ignore all the ones that aren't placed anywhere and aren't summonable.

P.S.: What is it with Jeff Vogel and his love affair with arbitrary limits?

1) Taskmaker was okay. The sequel was a little incoherent, and sometimes felt as if the designer was using it as a political soapbox.

2) The Mantra games were passable, although light on plot; my main gameplay complaint is that it often took altogether too long to get from one area to another, especially in Mantra 2.

3) I hope you don't mean to literally imply that Jeff Vogel had any part in the making of Realmz.

We have a dog that sings Jingle Bells and a frog that sings Thank God I'm A Country Boy. If yours is seated on a kind of green cardboard plinth, it might be made by the same company.

By butchering the script, I can only imagine. Send me what you did, and I'll look at it, but I don't immediately see how this is possible.

Manually constructing a really big lookup table is one solution that springs to mind. :P

I think that every point of Luck increases your hit and dodge rates by 1%, but that's hardly a reason to buy it in itself.

Sorry about the misunderstanding, then. But when you say that prisoners are "paid just to hang out for the rest of their lives", surely you can see how that sort of talk can get you misinterpreted.

Anyway, I'm not sure your idea is realistic in every case. Seems to me like the only meaningful ways in which Saddam could make any kind of recompense for his actions would all be entirely dependent on Saddam actually being willing to do them.

Otherwise people like Monarch would just make their own.
There's also Gibbons in Illya Safehouse, who explains quite a bit about how canisters are made. The impression I get is that the main limiting factor on the rebels' ability to make canisters is access to puresteel. Shapers have the technology to make puresteel, so they could probably make plenty of canisters if they wanted to -- but of course, they don't want to.

I think ET is also overestimating the difficulty of making canisters. G4 implies that all that's required is one guy with Shaping talent and the ability to forge puresteel. Stamping out clandestine canister workshops is likely to be a non-trivial task.

More likely removed on purpose because Jeff got too many complaints from people who'd turned the cheats off, regretted it and couldn't be bothered looking on the tech support site for the way to turn them back on.

You have to improve your reputation with the Shapers. Do some more quests for them, and don't do any more quests for the rebels until you've talked Alwan into giving you his quest. Having high Leadership also helps.

For more information on how you can improve your reputation, check out this guide.

I don't see why.

Suppose one sets aside one town entirely for cutscenes, but the cutscenes themselves take place in different towns. Is that okay or not?

No, asking people to make that kind of judgement call is far too airy-fairy and subjective for me. I say whatever you can cram into the space of 10 BoA towns is OK. If the scenario suffers for said cramming, that'll be reflected in its score. If it doesn't, then who cares that it technically uses the same town for two different locations?

Uh, I think he meant cramming several separate explorable locations into one of the editor definition of town. In which case it would be allowed.

See, this is why A4/G* calls them zones. Much less potential for confusion. :P

More Exodus Help Needed in Blades of Avernum

The main problem people have, I think, is that it's possible to save in the bandit camp after entering without help, thus putting the scenario in an unwinnable state. Making it possible to put the scenario in an unwinnable state is frowned upon even if it's intentional. I'm not sure what you could do to fix that, though.
