Now that you mention it, quite a few of the special spells' energy costs are inconsistent between the readme, the online help and the actual mechanics; I assume they were rebalanced during betatesting. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! If you're going to count thorn bushes, you may as well count mines, batons and living tools as well; you can meet several people whose job is to breed them. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Tharma had some BoE-related poetry. Drakey may have a copy of it. Tracking Tharma down to get permission to use it may be difficult. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Sounds right. I've long suspected that that's how acid and poison resistance actually work. (Which also means there's no benefit to putting on acid or poison resistance gear once you're already poisoned.) By the way, is it just me or does there seem to be a cap on acid and poison damage per round? No matter how long I get beaten on by rotghroths, I never take more than about 50-70 damage from acid -- on the other hand, being hit more does seem to extend the duration of the acid effect. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Drayks and drakons can both reproduce; Litalia in GF4 mentions that they greatly resent being shaped, and prefer to reproduce naturally. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

quote: quote:Correction: more than half said they would. Given what you know about the history of actual resistance movements, does it strike you as even remotely plausible that they'd really do so? Show me any historical occupation in which more than half the population of the occupied country formed part of an armed resistance, and I will eat my hat. And don't give me any guff about those who responded to the poll not being a representative sample of the general population; they can't be that unrepresentative. Seriously, guys. I know we all want to play at being heroes, but if you had that kind of courage in real life you'd already be off doing aid work in Sudan instead of gabbing away on a message board. quote:I think the only reason it's rare is because the situation you describe (very low damage output attacking very high resistance) is rare, especially with physical damage. It's not all that rare for a poisoned or acided monster with very high poison or acid resistance to take 0 damage one round and 3 or 4 damage the next. quote:My best guess on that would be that if you're wearing a 20% piece of armour, each point of damage inflicted on you has a 20% chance to be blocked, independent of every other point of damage. If this is the case, the amount of damage blocked should follow a binomial distribution. Time to get your copy of SPSS out. :P quote:When you say they're cumulative, you mean that having both of them on at once gives you a 36% damage reduction, right, not a 40% reduction? (Okay, so we'd probably need more trials to know that for sure.) New, hilarious bug found. When returning to Avernoss Camp near the end of the scenario and finding it deserted, the entire party is killed off. Looks like an erase_char loop gone horribly wrong. Should be easy enough to fix. [ Wednesday, January 03, 2007 23:06: Message edited by: Cryptozoology ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! quote:Um, that was already possible in the version of Exodus I've got. You select "Cancel" while attempting to cast the special spell and if an NPC is in your party it asks if you want to cast it on them. It's poorly documented, but it's there. Did you code it in and then forget about it? [ Wednesday, January 03, 2007 22:28: Message edited by: Cryptozoology ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Testing Luck is hard, though, since most of the things it helps you resist don't do direct damage. I suppose the easiest way would be to go into an area that does continual poison damage and see if Luck helps reduce it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure!
