Play Exile 2. Avernum 4 doesn't have 'em. [ Monday, January 15, 2007 04:39: Message edited by: Cryptozoology ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It's a high level spell that needs a certain crystal as a spell component. You fight a spellcaster and try to drain each other of spell points. Not really worth using and the very tedious in practice the one time I used it in Avernum 2. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Are you kidding? Mindduel was awesome. I used to use it to raise my mages' sp far above the max. You could always rely on demons to top up your sp. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. But then, that's not a complaint." -Scorpius Geneforge 4 stuff. I haven't used it in A2, so perhaps it was weaked, but Mindduel was a real killer in E2. It was, after all, designed to be the reasonable way to defeat the final boss. A2 took that last bit out, which annoys me tremendously. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Well it was a bit overpowered. Who can stop a mage walking around with 600 sp? -------------------- Lt. Sullust Cogito Ergo Sum Polaris Posts: 2462 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

By Slarty: quote:You seem to be saying that mindduel was present in A2. Am I having a brain fart right now? Well, that would explain why I never used it in Avernum 2. :P -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Mindduel in Exile 3 was very hard to pull off if I remember correctly. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. The Smoky Crystals were only used in BoE. That was one of the few differences between E3 and BoE. E3 used a special item just like E2 did. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Must be a long time since you played exile, Slarty! In both E2 and E3 smoky crystals were required in order to cast mindduel. Luckily both games included shops selling them in infinite quantities. I suspect the change you are thinking of is capture soul, which required a special item (soul crystal) in E2/E3, but did not require anything in BoE. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. If memory serves... In E2, Mindduel was *free*, it was, if you had the components, an easy way to boost up your SP, assuming you didn't get drained. However, in E3, and I think in BoE, it cost 12, making it much less efficient for gaining SP. 12 SP is a lot, also, E2 didn't have stacking or weight restrictions, making it possible for all your guys to run around with 99. E3, they had a 1 wieght per, I think. -------------------- Learn from others mistakes. Its safer and more entertaining than learning on your own. Yes, E3 mind-dueling was rarely helpful. I didn't really miss its disappearance from the Avernum series. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos.
