ESRB ratings, and which ones do you think spidweb games would get? in General | |

Calm yourself, Djur. The question in the topic is what ratings we think SW games would get if the ESRB rated them, not which ones we think they should get. I'm inclined to disagree with Sir David, though. I doubt a couple of throwaway lines of conversation would change the rating. Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Nah. Gameplay as I see it is about the way you interact with the work. There's not much interaction with a movie. -------------------- I believe there are 15 747 724 136 275 002 577 105 653 961 181 555 468 044 717 914 527 116 709 366 231 425 076 185 631 031 296 protons in the universe, and the same number of electrons. -- Sir Arthur Eddington Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Tomatoes and tobacco are only related on the family level - not even in the same genus. I'd say the chances of successfully crossing them are slim at best. Even if you succeeded, I doubt the offspring would bear fruit. Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Come to think of it, there are probably obscure "art" films out there somewhere that do in fact consist entirely of text on a screen. I doubt they're worth watching, though.

If you wanted a game to be like a book, you'd write a book. The secret to making a good game lies in using all the elements of the medium to your advantage, not just preventing some of them from "getting in the way". How would you like it if the next time you saw a movie, a whole bunch of text scrolled across the screen for 2 hours because the director decided fancy visuals would "get in the way of the plot"? -------------------- I believe there are 15 747 724 136 275 002 577 105 653 961 181 555 468 044 717 914 527 116 709 366 231 425 076 185 631 031 296 protons in the universe, and the same number of electrons. -- Sir Arthur Eddington Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Heh, thirty decibels is hardly "blasting". It's quieter than a normal conversation: 1,000 times lower sound intensity, in fact, since decibels are a logarithmic scale... :P Er, come to think of it, this was probably what Imby was getting at in his post. :P [ Friday, November 07, 2003 00:31: Message edited by: Thuryl ] Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

This is just how isometric views work, I'm afraid. North, south, east and west are defined by the directions the terrain tiles go, not by the borders of the view. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It seems to me that one vital factor has been left out here, and that's gameplay. If a game has the best plot in the world but is mind-numbingly tedious, I won't play it. On the other hand, good gameplay can make up for a lot of flaws in other areas. Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I'm approaching the end of my first year at university (I'm in Australia, where our academic year actually coincides with the calendar year.) I'm in a Biomedical Science course, which is essentially a science course that pretends it's a medicine course (the course structure is more rigid than science, but the actual material taught is more like life sciences than medicine). As such, the course is a haven for failed medical students with alarming self-esteem issues. (I am not one of the aforementioned, having never intended to study medicine in the first place.) Right now I'm looking at majoring in therapeutic pharmacology, but the subjects I've chosen for second year keep my options somewhat open. (University courses over here tend to run to three years, not counting honours year (which, these days, everyone who can do tends to do).) -------------------- I believe there are 15 747 724 136 275 002 577 105 653 961 181 555 468 044 717 914 527 116 709 366 231 425 076 185 631 031 296 protons in the universe, and the same number of electrons. -- Sir Arthur Eddington Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

If too few people are participating, people get frustrated and give up. On the other hand, the more people there are, the more chance there is that one person controlling a vital character will leave or lose interest. So another factor that can mess up RPs is being the wrong size. Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |
