Why a Lightning, for heaven's sake? If you want something small and fast, just get a Scoutship early in the game and hold on to it -- it's much cheaper, even after you factor in all the upgrades you need to make it combat-capable. I didn't trade in my Scoutship until I could afford a Corvette. (Speaking of which, my scoutship was more than capable of taking out an unmodified Corvette -- once you can dodge missiles, which is easy enough with a fast ship and an afterburner, you've got it made.) The gates do open if you just kill Khoth -- I've done it before. (Of course, you get the maximum possible amount of treasure out of the encounter if you bring Khoth all the items he wants and then kill him.) quote:Uh, you need at least one mirror, because the lasers that the efreeti stand behind (which you have to get past to get to the door) never turn off. We could, if we had enough 6-fingered people willing to mate with each other. It's notoriously hard to selectively breed humans. :P -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

You don't know what you're missing. Really, you don't. I used to play that way too, but making it to XP level 47 and a depth of 3500' before dying in OAngband was more satisfying than the time I managed to win by extensive cheating. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! And then, of course, there's the sign in the middle of a swamp bearing the message "CAUTION: SWAMP". I forget which Exile game that was in, but it was amusing in any case. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Or, if you don't have time to go back for any of those, you could just kill Khoth to get past. Note that this is fairly difficult to do. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

An Easter egg, as its name suggests, is a hidden surprise in an application. Easter eggs can be hidden in any kind of application -- a game, a word processor or even the operating system itself. In general, easter eggs are seen by doing something that most users wouldn't normally think to do. (The most famous Exile 2 easter egg is, of course, entering Eas Ter Egg as a code at the Tower of Magi portal.) -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I really don't know why people find this puzzle difficult. Pay attention to which lasers turn themselves on and off and which ones stay on all the time. Avoid the ones that stay on all the time, and push the mirror through the others when they're off. Be sure to push the mirror around in combat mode, because that makes timing your movements 10 times easier. When you get to the final lasers with the efreeti behind them, push the mirror into one of them to create a gap in the beam that you can walk through. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Today's moniker, Transorbital Leucotomy, is the technical name for the infamous "ice-pick lobotomy" -- and yes, before you ask, it really was performed with an ice-pick, at least some of the time. The instrument was inserted between the eyeball and the eye socket and wiggled from side to side inside the brain. So quick and easy -- why, you could practically do it without anaesthetic, and many surgeons did. Needless to say, the development of such a simple procedure for cutting up people's brains revolutionised the field of psychosurgery. Rows of mentally ill patients were lined up to receive leucotomies while medical students and members of the press gazed on with admiration. Studies generally found that about a quarter to a third of patients treated this way demonstrated significant improvement in the condition they'd originally been treated for (which could be anything from depression to schizophrenia). That might not have been such a bad success rate if it weren't for the fact that many patients treated in this way were left with permanent disabilities, including abnormalities of mood, impaired judgement, increased aggression, and seizures. Oh well; we live and learn. [ Sunday, September 04, 2005 23:47: Message edited by: Fenfluramine ] -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! The sensible solution, then, is to change the name of the country to something that's both uniquely identifying and easy to say. :P -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

You're right about this being neither the time nor the place to discuss this, at least. Perhaps we can both agree to measure our words more carefully in future and leave it at that. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! quote:Perhaps my language was stronger than it should have been, but the fact remains that your comment was insensitive. His fiancee just died -- it's incredibly presumptious of you to criticise the way in which he's reacted to that. In future, if you want to suggest to people that there are alternative ways of coping, please be less blunt about it; it would also be nice if you could actually offer helpful advice instead of just telling people what you won't allow them to do.
