When you're trying to eliminate all the barrels, make sure you only step on the rune that makes a crate; that way, you can go down the passage that requires no barrels to be present. The opposite is true for crates. Remember, you don't have to remove the barrels & crates at once. You can remove all the barrels first, then come back and do the crates (or vice versa). -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. I only buy Capture Soul and Simulacrum for completeness, and never use them. If I can't kill it with my party, I don't take it on. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. Fun little trinket, isn't it? :) I normally play as a singleton, but having that bracelet helps when I need the support of a few creations. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. It should work fine. I buy the games on CD myself, and have never had any problems. If you're worried, just make a backup copy of your save file, and move it back after installing the full version. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. Ah yes, yet another party makeup survey. In Avernum, I prefer a 4-PC party: a slith, a nephil, and 2 humans (except in A1, they're all human) All of them are combination priests/mages. To make things interesting, sometimes I'll give everybody the traits "Cursed at Birth" and "Completely Inept." -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. I'd say you're thinking too hard, something I'm famous for at home. Anyway, the nephilim castle is the harder of the two to get into (spoiler: unless you go in from the back), so I recommend tackling the fort first (another spoiler: You need a key from the fort anyway, so why not start there?). -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. Try 800x600 or 640x480 screen resolution; that should make the game bigger. Also, you could go into the preferences to change from full screen to a smaller window; this will hide most of the pattern. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. quote:I recommend you kill Pyrog first (spoiler: You have to kill him anyway to beat the game), just to make sure you're strong enough to take on a dragon and live to tell the tale. First, I don't give a (censored) about word origins. Second, let's get back on topic. That said, quote:Forget bashing doors altogether, it's normally not worth the time or effort. I've long since learned from the Exile trilogy not to bother with it. Since it seems like you've barely started, your PCs aren't nearly strong enough to do much of it anyway. Here's what you should do instead: 1) Leave Fort Avernum. 2) Kill wandering monsters, and take their stuff (and gain some XP too! :) ). 3) Sell the stuff you picked up from the dead monsters. 4) Repeat 2 & 3 until you have about 500-1000 gold. 5) Go north to Formello and buy Unlock Doors at level 2 from a mage in the library. Now you can open most locked doors. Also, Dikiyoba - You're right, the strongest character always attempts to bash the door down. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. Methinks you might have forgotten when you get dumbfounded at a high enough level, which could render all your priests/mages useless if you don't have any potions of clarity or something similar. Dumbfounding is the only true opposition I have when playing, as all my PCs are combination priests/mages. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. So I noticed. That's why, thanks to my semi-fame as a major pack rat, I set up a cache or two in different towns. Anything I think I might need goes into those caches; everything else gets sold. It's a great way to create both a huge hoard and a fat wallet. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. Do you mean buying Hawke's Manse, or A3? :P Anyway, I usually buy Hawke's Manse in E3 for a place to store stuff. In A3, buying it is probably a moot point, except maybe for the spell books (though I wouldn't know, since I don't have the registered version of A3). -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. Sounds great in theory, but it would probably be really tough to do in reality. For it to be as good as the Geneforge series, it would need about a year or more to code. In the meantime, someone could always keep the idea alive by starting a "BoG blog." (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun! :P ) -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. There are things that are unknown, even to me. My best guess is probably not. Then again, the only Mac I ever owned was actually an Apple IIe (remember those?), so I can't say for certain. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts. You're right, the Geneforge games don't have a window option; I just checked. A4 gets stretched out too, since there's no window option there either. And please disregard my earlier comment about BoA; it turns out that I had to restart the program after unchecking the "Blades of Avernum takes up full screen" option. -------------------- Either I'm crazy, or everybody else is nuts.
