Which game to get? in General

I was looking back through save threads and Delcious Vlish was running a duo in A4. There were several singletons in A4 just to prove it was possible.

My favorites were Exile/Avernum2 for the great plot and decent game engines. I prefer Geneforge 3 over 2 because the game interface improved and the daze spell is now for multiple targets. I'm starting Nethergate and like the spell system better than any of the others. It's even fun as a singleton,

Microsoft got sued over the use of Internet Explorer as a name and coughed up some money when they saw they might actually lose. Of course for them it's easier to now pay for all the criminal actions they've done to get them settled.

Children in Geneforge Series

By A4 the children are probably in hiding unless you count the GIFTS babies. In A1 you had a few children like Angharad (?) who grew up in A4 to run the merchants in Cotra. I think A3 in a few towns was the last to have children unless you count some BoA scenarios.

Geneforge didn't have many children if I remember it. In GF2 there was one in Medab.

countering freezing? in Avernum 4

The closest the PC has to freeze is the daze/super daze spells. The next best is to stun them out of fighting. The best is to kill them before they attack so you don't have to think about it,

I only remember two golem encounters (Tomb of Kyrann and under Almaria) and off course those pylons that can freeze you. You just have to be careful.

I don't think Jeff will add a teleportation spell because it would allow you to bypass his minefields. He is supposed to make them more interesting in GF4.

The archives are nice when you want an answer to a question that's already been answered. Although most people just keep asking the same questions over and over again.

Taco Bell once tried a low fat menu. After initially high sales they found that people were buying it instead of their regular menu. So they went back to their regular menu and now offer removing ingredients to lower calories and fat.

Most people just have no control about their eating, plus it is convenient to buy junk food.

To avoid or reduce freezing use cold resistance items like rings. I forget how high your resistance needs to be to have a good chance. For a singleton there are three solutions: improve cold resistance, summon cold resistance shades to protect you, and the always unpopular save and reload.

Israel - Lebanon conflict in General

I notice that you gloss over the way that Israel got its territory in the first place.

Let's see, Jews that weren't already living in Israel before the Palestinians bought land from Arabs. There were several areas where Jews have lived in Israel despite efforts to remove them.

The UN partition gave a small area to establish Israel. Then it was attacked by Egypt, Syrai, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and other Arab states in 1948. The cease fire established new borders just like in every other non-Isreali war. The current borders are the result of the 1967 war where Israel was attacked again. We'll skip over the 1956 war, the attacks by Egyptian back terrorist from Gaza, the 1973 war, and the Intafada. Only Egypt has formally ended the war with negotiations and received its territory back. The other countries are technically still at war since there were only cease fire talks.

Name another country that gave back land while still at war. About half the US is the result of wars. France and Germany have fought over Alsace-Lorraine several times. Most countries that are victorious do not cede land captured during war. The UN resolutions require Israel to give back the land in return for secure borders which the Palestinians are not wiling to do. Both Hamas and Hezbollah call for the eradication of Israel. Fatah (PLO) still has in its charter that the formation of the Palestinian state is only one step in the elimination of Israel in spite of signing the Oslo accords. So under inernational law and precedent Israel is within its rights to retain control until a negotiated peace with all parties has been achieved.

Maybe he should have said Catholic since the dictionary also defines it as broad minded.

For those that claim Israel has taken away the Palestinian land. The Palestianians got two states in 1948. One was Jordan and the other one Palestine was seized by Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt in 1948 during the first war.

Israel captured territory from Egypt (Gaza), Jordan (West Bank), and Syria (Golan Heights) in 1967. The Palestinians were going to get the land back from Israel when they completed peace negotiations but Arafat, Hamas, etc. preferred to start a new war in order to get even the land of Israel in addition to what they now claim is there state. You notice between 1948 and 1967 none of the Arab countries formed the captured territory into a Palestinian state. They kept the Palestinians in refugee camps in order to have a "cause."

All Israel has gotten for its efforts is attacked. That they have retaliated with so much restraint as to minimize civilian casualties is overlooked. Hamas has deliberately sent suicide bombers against such military targets as holiday dinners, schools, pizza parlors, etc. and poorly targeted mortars and rockets in the general area of Israel. Hey any Jew is a legitimate target since he might be a soldier. Hezbollah has 15,000 rockets that they have been firing into northern Israel for years. They now can go 30 miles past the border into Haifa. Lebanon has for years been told by the UN to disarm Hezbollah and take back control of southern Lebanon from them but they have refused. Now some people are compalining that Lebanon is "innocent."

A better response would be to execute those responsible for ordering the actions that caused the Israeli response. However most of them are in hiding and out of reach in Iran, Syria, and Lebanon. If enough terroriest leaders were punished for starting this war their replacements would consider peace.

What will the civilian deaths in Lebanon accomplish?[QUOTE]

The civilian deaths in Lebanon are collateral damage from attacks against military targets. Hamas and Hezbollah are deliberately targetting civilians. One is accidental and the other is premeditated, Does that help?

Maybe Lebanon will finally get rid of terrorist groups that it harbors. It took them long enough to force Syria out after it occupied them during the first Gulf War.

Almost any other country would have invaded for a lot less. How would you feel about being attacked by someone who says they want to kill you?

The US invaded Mexico in pursuit of Pancho Villa (bandit) when he attacked people in the Southwest. In order to stop the pirates in Tripoli the US sent the marines instead of paying the off. Iraq invaded Kuwait because it claimed the land was part of Iraq. Iran and Iraq fought for 10 years over their border.

Lebanon refused to disarm Hezbollah as required by UN resolutions regarding militias operating in the country. Instead they renamed them a resistance faction and allowed them to run the southern part of the country and attack Israel.

Both the Palestinian attack from Gaza and the recent Hezbollah attacks were planned months in advanced and not spontaneous responses to Israeli actions as propagandists had claimed. You see how long it takes to dig a 700 yard tunnel.

Plus he gets to come back to visit. Jesus gets eaten by those cannibal Catholics. Which explains why Catholicism is so popular among cannibals. They like a religion that emphasizes eating powerful leaders.

Actually a prequel works better than a sequel. This could be the first Roman scouts sent to map out Shadowvale for the fort. They could be co-opted by one Sidhe faction and spelled so they couldn't reveal that fact. The spell would explain why the weirdness in the area wasn't reported before the fort was built.

The problem is that people will find isolated areas to develope cannisters and geneforges where shapers aren't around to sense them. Drypeak was a failure where a few weak shapers were sent because they couldn't do much harm. If they hadn't come from Sucia Island then they wouldn't have had the knowledge to do the type of damage that resulted.

Shaper hypocrisy vs. Shaper tragedy (SPOILERS) in Geneforge Series

Ruling by fear is easier. There isn't likely to be the mistake that kindness is a sign of weakness. That's why serviles are punished for showing independent thought. In Japan they used to say that the nail that stands out above the others gets hit by the hammer.

Although the Shaper's Council has taken it too far and that has caused the servile rebellion. In GF1 there were some endings where the serviles (Obeyers) were treated better, but usually they were cannonfodder that could be most useful by dying so they didn't contaminate the other serviles. The drayks are by GF3 considered too powerful and dangerous to be allowed to exist. The serviles have pushed their search for power to the point where their creations are more likely to go out of control and damage the world rather than help it. I don't think that certain creations will be allowed to continue in Shaper controlled areas.

Ooh I know! The ability to play singleton parties again, without level progression stagmenting midway through the game.

I've played a singleton in torment through A4 and to get around level progression stagnation you need to do all those irritating little quests. Also skipping around the Great Cave to go after higher level encounters helps to raise your character at the risk of later stagnation.

Check some of the old threads and you will see that other people have run singletons even with two disadvantages.
