At precisely 12:00 AM EST on July 9, that would be 9:00 PM PST (Board Time) on July 8, I turn 18. Out of my newfound love for this community, I invite you all to pick what I should do to mark the momentus event of leaving my legal childhood behind. Oh, and if any of you have read the old thread on the IB program I posted, I received the diploma. That pleased me. Note that this is not a poll so as to keep the suggestions unlimited. -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

The Matrix. Hands down. The first one is good alone, but when put together as a complete trilogy, all three are great. I love a good "mess-with-your-head" flick. Fight Club is up there too, then. Oh, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail is indeed a holy grail of comedy. I agree, The Long Patrol is up there, but I think Salamandastron is the coolest. I guess I have a thing for the Badger Lords. Triss has been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now, and it looks really good. I should read it. I enjoy books with a good array of heroines, and Brian Jacques has been good on that. That might be why I liked The Pearls of Lutra so much. The heroine, and the whale speak; that was crazy stuff. :P EDIT: Well, I really liked Martin the Warrior, too. Can't beat a story about Redwall's greatest champion. I haven't read these in years. Maybe I should give them another go. I miss reading about meadowcream and Deepern'ever pie and cordials. Oh yeah, the moles. I love the moles! :D [ Thursday, July 07, 2005 23:23: Message edited by: Slp006 ] -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

Terrorists are like trolls, but on a much larger and more dangerous scale, if you'll forgive the somewhat humorous analogy. They appear en masse once in a while to make sure people don't ever get comfortable in the least. And we feed the terrorists by panicking about them for months while they sit and laugh, waiting to destabilize the world once again. I'm tired of it. I do not care what twisted religious ideal they are hiding behind; Christianity, Islam, and Judaism do NOT preach killing as something honorable, even for religious purposes. Killing in the name of a crusade or Jihad is a perversion of holy texts by mankind. Al Quaeda terrorists aren't following the Quoran in the way Mohammed would have condoned. Murdering hundreds of your fellow men is definitely not an example of spreading love to others (a staple of ALL THREE major western religions, making any religious wars absolutely contradictory to true followers, by the way), and is certainly no fast track to a Heaven with 17 virgins. Some violent fool using a veil of Islam took a bunch of passages from of the Quoran and put them together out of context to justify these kinds of things. Al-Quaeda isn't a group of real Muslims. They bastardize Islam and are thus an affront to spiritual people around the world. The use of religion to justify wanton destruction is one of the reasons why I'm an atheist. I am greatly saddened by the London attacks. Our countries ought to stop bickering about who is harboring who and just try to root out the cells. Getting distracted by the politics of other nations, no matter how corrupt one nation's government might be, takes attention away from the true terrorist threat. We might succeed in "banning the trolls," then. And that's as far as my political commentary will go. IP ban Al-Quaeda! Although it was a good idea, turning off the extensions did absolutely nothing for the slowness. I'm thinking I'll have to do some sort of update/reinstall of my Classic. And for the record, I am unable to boot in 9. I would if I could, but the folks at Cupertino did away with that. -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

If you are going to get Harlequin on what seems to me to be a technicality, (the games offered at the site are not free for full versions), then by the same token he could very well be talking about the demos. My point is that you're assuming he's practicing commercial solicitation. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt and consider his post a friendly suggestion to those who would like a free demo to a decent game? After all, the post is clearly meant to be a suggestion, in context. It seems wrong to interpret the CoC this literally. You seem to be taking the post out of context, is all. -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

After launching GC for the fifth time or so, I received an error about not having enough memory to run OS X effectively with Classic apps or something to that effect. GC opened afterward, but with the sound significantly slowed down. Thinking that this was some RAM snafu, I rebooted. The error no longer showed up, but the sound still ran slow. What's worse is that now I've discovered that all of my Classic programs have a sound slowdown. I tried Googling™ the problem to no avail, so I figured I might try here. Crud. I actually liked GC, too. I hope it hasn't given me a reason to reformat. :P For reference, here are my system specs. For the few who enjoy tinkering with editors like the ones in this topic, I've updated my own modified versions of z2southenddlg.txt and gf3itemschars.txt. The editor is much cleaner, and it also provides you with artifact components and item enhancements if you so choose. Note that if you want to use the "Give me powerful equipment" option after clicking on the "Would you like powerful items?" option, you must download and place BOTH z2southenddlg.txt and gf3itemschars.txt into the scripts folder of GF3. If you do not want fast moving creations, custom equipment or a high level for your Shaper PC, then just download z2southenddlg.txt and click on the first sign you see after you leave the school. I figured I should bring this post to the top so that newbies don't have to search so long for this. Thanks goes to Indeterminatus for reminding me that some people are interested in this kind of thing, thus inspiring me to improve on these scripts, as well as the feedback of Dolphin and Travers earlier in this post. heir responses gave me ideas on how to improve the scripts. 7/12/05 EDIT: All three classes should move like the wind. I also eliminated the massive level increases, because I figured that few people actually want to start out that high just for the heck of it. If you need massive amounts of essence, one of my custom items (the Mental Focus charm) will give you more than you'll ever need. It has the added benefit of being dumpable if you decide you don't want the boost anymore. I figured the editing would be more user-end this way, as it should be. As always, let me know if you run into any problems. Geneforge 3 didn't appeal to me until I edited it to get more control over what happened within the game. I don't like being pushed to play a certain way to finish games. Granted you get three basic choices, but you have to pick between two factions and basically follow that one side throughout the game. I never played the first two, but I think I can safely say that Avernum is better for those who want looser character creation, particularly with BoA. I still like Geneforge 3 a lot because of the story that unfolds. As long as I don't have to spend so much time managing the development of creations and stats, the game entertains me for hours. I also hate to admit it, but I prefer animated characters, Avernum's square to square standing/sitting sprites grate on the nerves after a while, because it reminds me of paper dolls. Not that there's anything wrong with paper dolls, of course, but they should not try to slay each other in bloody rage. It's just...wrong. But I can tolerate wrong. Besides, it reminds me of old text-based games, in a way, which I like. Avernum has a better statistic system, and more depth to the towns, enemies, and people than Geneforge. The world of Avernum isn't as isolated as GF's. Different races to pick are also nice. So let's see. Geneforge is great if you're into making monsters and discovering why everything about the mysterious Shapers works in certain ways. I love the concept of making monsters, so it sold me. The plot is pretty good too, but it only has a few main characters and tends to be predictable. Avernum has a richer background story and world, and a plot with plenty of sidebars and twists to keep you engrossed. Plus, I think the sound that you make when you cast "move mountains" in Avernum is the greatest. ("Koooru!") Geneforge is a gamer's RPG; it's less contemplative. Avernum is a reader's RPG; it's more contemplative. Since you play the trombone, I imagine you're more contemplative than many. It's the trademark of a creative mind, as far as I can tell. ;) -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

Spiderweb games are innovative, yet simple. The gameplay is solid and you know what you're doing five minutes or less after launching the app. Avernum games are fun because they are very reminiscient of text-based games. I always thought the lack of animations to be a positive defining characteristic of the series; a kind of trademark to show that thought and plot are more important than pretty in Avernum. Geneforge caters to the wacky geneticist side of me. Creating an army of dragons and beholders (a.k.a. Eyebeasts, how Jeff got away with this I don't know) with magical manipulations of creature genomes to burn away the evils of the world is great fun. I came to the forums to check for any edited scripts or secrets I had overlooked in GF3. I discovered a very well-developed community of Spiderwebbers, and decided it would enrich my day-to-day affairs by staying present. It's not large enough to become a spam-fest, but not small enough to stagnate. Plus, the average intelligence of a Spiderweb member seems to be much higher than the world average, as others have stated. I never have to regularly shield my eyes from posts such as "Wh3re b da Superweapon thingy - i cant find it nowheres" like you might see on forums for Neverwinter Nights or Blizzard games. Oh, and I'm a Mac user, and SW caters to us, which makes me happy. I also usually only play RPGs–– experiencing a great story is always better to me than "kill random sprite over and over while jumping on platforms or going from one stage to another just like it in style with a different background." SW games are about the story, and deserve my money. -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

Allstar is a good Cheer-up song, as is Hang On by the same band––that is, if you can stomach anything made by a sell-out alternative group. I had given that some thought as well, but then they all look like rags to me. Oh well, who am I to claim to know the intricacies of Slith attire? For all I know there might be deep meaning to the shape and color and so on. The loincloth still bothers me, in any case. A cloaca would most certainly not be on their frontside, if they are like the lizardfolk I am used to seeing on Earth. Ah well. I suppose the real answer is only known by Jeff. Maybe I'll drop him a line. -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

Wedding tackle... that's hilarious... Well, I doubt a cloaca is very much more sensitive to cold then the rest of the body, and a loincloth only keeps a small area warm anyway. Ok, that makes sense for a male nephil. However, females are a different story altogether... the top shelf doesn't retract, does it? EDIT: Ah, ok, I saw the last bit of your post. You might be right about that. If I were a fur covered cat-creature, clothes would just seem pointless. :P [ Friday, July 01, 2005 20:13: Message edited by: Slp006 ] -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |

Aren't Slith full reptilian creatures? If that's the case, then they shouldn't need to wear loincloths. However, the Nephilim are mammals, I believe, and therefore should wear loincloths as humans do. This has always confused me somewhat. Can anyone clarify? Try to refrain from silly/borderline naughty answers, please. I'm trying to ask this as seriously as I possibly can. Too little of it means you can injure yourself without knowing it and die later. If you're looking at it from a religious standpoint, it could be purity, because if you are too "pure" you aren't fit for the Earth (as far as I know in Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism, this is the case; I'm very much an atheist and am by no means a professional theologian), and won't be born. However, a lack of spirit will make like void, hypothetically. Hmm... EDIT: How about cardiovascular activity? Should I stay away from the physical? Lips are fine. If I got the training, I could sing with no trouble. It's the whole arm, fingers, and legs and feet as well. My muscles tend to become over-active rather quickly, so the messages from my brain to the muscles lose their timing. It's slight, but noticeable. Stifness is also a problem. "Why not sing, then?" you might be wondering. Well, I used to, but then my voice cracked and although I was no longer an alto, my baritone voice reminded me (and still does) of the tones of one who has utilized too many illegal substances. Plus, singing is very egocentric. Using a tool apart from oneself seems more contemplative and fulfilling to me. It's not news to me that I can't play an instrument, though. I just wanted to see if someone knew about something I didn't. -------------------- Wu wei... it's the only way Posts: 154 | Registered: Monday, June 20 2005 07:00 |
