I already edited it into a previous post, but I'll say it again here for the sake of getting responses to it.

Wait a minute... Marlenny, if I've found the right blog, you're already "In a Relationship!" and Thuryl is mentioned nowhere... I'm telling!

Ok, there. Thuryl's already being cheated upon, thus proving that Marlenny is not an ugly man and Thuryl is just...reading all of this.

Edit to post below: Yes, of course. How silly of me. Marlenny's in big trouble with someone if he finds out... :P Wow. I don't BELIEVE how silly I'm being. I must go to bed now before permanently ramming my foot into my mouth, which may happen if I post again.

This proves it. Marlenny is in fact a fat, creepy man who seduces teenage boys over the internet by pretending to be a hot sheila.

Perhaps so, but what occurs is ultimately Thuryl's choice.

Or perhaps you are jealous of Thuryl's fan club.

Either way, this thread is sillier than a box of Cracker Jacks, so I had to post something here. :P

Human nature in General

A sin / Pleasure seeking can never be entirely suppressed, and even then "morals" are defined by outside influences. Without a society attempting to cooperate with one another, human being would simply attempt to find ways to eliminate reproductive competitors and live a life most conducive to breeding. In short, the only way to even begin suppressing a "harmful or selfish desire" i.e. sin, is to have some sort of internal morality based on what one has learned in life, be it the concept of honor or even religion. Hence, sins bring us farther from "humanity" and more toward "beast" stature.

Thus, sins can be suppressed to some extent, but you must learn how and why to suppress them.

P.S. I apologize for anything that might sound like rambling. I'm rather tired, and although this might make sense to me now, I have no idea whether it's truly clear or not. Engaging in philosophical thought is rather fun to do at any time of the day, even at 2:30 in the morning.

Oh, and to TM – Greed is a base survival instinct for humans because getting more of something helpful tends to aid our chances of finding a mate. Monetary greed might not be a base instinct, but greed for power is, and in this capitalist day and age, more money translates into more power. Why is the desire for more power a basic aspect of human survival? A human is more likely to find a mate if he or she is powerful. Whether or not this mate has a matching personality is irrelevant. Greed is also precisely why Marxism will never work in a large society. The average human slob will only care about his or her own self (i.e. greed). They don't want to be on the same level as everyone else...then there would be nothing to separate themselves from the masses and no ways for potential mates to pick their genes over the others! :P Cuba, Russia, and Maoist China all employed a form of Marxism that got corrupted by greedy people, besides. I hope I didn't just open a worm can... oh well.

P.P.S: Obviously, I am biased towards the theory of natural selection.

I'd fund my own genetics research facility (I plan on getting a medical degree to do such kinds of research and treatment) and write myself grants so that I wouldn't have to go through extra gubernatorial red tape.

Better yet, I'd use it to fund a research laboratory somewhere in Europe; probably Switzerland, to horde the money away.

I'd put two hundred million in the bank for moi, and fund other research groups that focus on particular diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. I'm not sure how much, but probably a good 100 million or so, depending on what else I would do.

My parents would also get a private bank account of $200 million. Social security is going down the abyss.

I would hire private tutors to teach me Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese, and Latin.

I'd end up retiring in some private laboratory in Hong Kong, or perhaps follow in Ben Franklin's footsteps and become a lovable diplomat (substituting China for France, of course). I think I could do some great things for China, given the proper tools. This is a little presumptuous, of course, but why not? This is all a fantasy anyway. :P

Difficulty - does it ever get harder? in Geneforge Series

Hmmm. Maybe this calls for an editor that ups the difficulty level by modding enemy HP. Beamup, if you're familiar with script editing, you'll be able to do this by looking in the creature entries of gforscen.txt. However, if you're not, then I'll be tinkering with one myself. I'll edit the post when I get something done.

Be warned that I'm much more accustomed to making games ridiculously easy as opposed to moderately difficult, so this will be a new experience for me. Chances are the game will be too hard once I'm done with it. Maybe some other people will jump on this little bandwagon... I've got lots of room.

EDIT: Ok, here's a link to the Increased Difficulty Script. I tripled the HP of most enemies and gave their abilities more strength. Unfortunately, it also causes a glitch in some of the tile graphics. Evidently GF1 isn't as tolerant to tinkering as GF3 (and based on my experiences, messing with GF2's scenario file is even worse). However, the game should be much harder now. Let me know how it works out.

Be sure to back up the original gforscen.txt before replacing it with the modified version!

Perhaps not, but a creature editor of some kind would be rather neat. I mean, sure, you can change around existing creatures with script editing, but there's no way to actually create custom monsters. It could be a kind of Shaper's Workshop. I know I'd buy it.

Maybe that was TaskMaker or something similar. I recall men in black masks in TaskMaker, along with red carpets and stone walls.

Ye olde pencil & paper Dungeons and Dragons. So it's owned by Wizards of the Coast now? A minor detail. Nothing beats a night of roleplaying and creature slaying with a group of close friends. That being said, Neverwinter Nights is about as true to actual D&D (and the Forgotten Realms campaign setting) as a computer game can get.

FR forever.

Oh, and Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals was awesome, but frustrating. Natsume makes some great games. Harvest Moon anyone? ;)

It's much more useful as an artifact component. You can read about the artifacts here, but it has some spoilers in it.

How do I get rid of these items? in Geneforge Series
Warrior

Agents aren't made to move faster in this thing, but that's easily remedied, and since I've gotten more than one inquiry about boosting agents, I'll go ahead and do it. I'll edit this post when the new file is uploaded. Note that this is only for gf3itemschars.txt, so you'll only have to download that one again. And, unfortunately, you'll have to make a new character to be fast.

EDIT: Ok, it's uploaded. All three classes should move like the wind. I also eliminated the massive level increases, because I figured that few people actually want to start out that high just for the heck of it. If you need massive amounts of essence, one of my custom items (the Mental Focus charm) will give you more than you'll ever need. It has the added benefit of being dumpable if you decide you don't want the boost anymore. I figured the editing would be more user-end this way, as it should be. As always, let me know if you run into any problems.

I just re-uploaded the file, downloaded the new upload, and tried it on my copy of GF3 and everything worked appropriately. Would you mind downloading the new upload? It's at the same link.

Thank you, Dolphin, for testing it out. I'm not sure why the file became corrupt on the Internet, but it might have something to do with the upload/download process. Maybe I should use something other than Tripod.

If there's a call for a recount, I, as one of the resident Floridian voters, ought to head it. :P Oh, right, and I actually voted. Aran's fanatic campaigning bought me. It seems as though he might actually do something with the board. Maybe. Dolphin got the other good chunk of my votes, due to her prolific posting record and troll-knowledge. Thuryl got some too, because he's blunt, and TM as well, because there was a passing chance that I could contribute to a General revolution. Go team go? Indeed.

Just a quick update before this goes further on the lovely tangent.

In honor of SW, I have registered GF1 and 2 as well as Nethergate complete with hintbooks using the final relics of childhood: "birthday money." I *might* register the Avernum and Exile trilogies if I can get my Classic OS to speed up again.

The friends and I decided to get completely knackered. My father gave me two shots of scotch for posterity, and after five lovely hours of roleplaying in the Forgotten Realms, We all enjoyed meditating on that special herb that makes the love in Dolphin's cookies much more "real" by passing around homemade cigarettes. My diaphragm still hurts from the choking.

There were no goats available for romancing. Evidently, the devil's minions were on vacation and could spare no time for me.

Spidwebbers, you all made my birthday "awesome-er." I almost posted while the love was still running through my veins, but I was afraid of what the mods would say about the resulting post.

Wonkiness appears to be at a minimum, Riibu. Although I can't verify whether the right maps are in the right places, all of the links work, and the maps are clear on 800 by 600 resolution. I already was able to make use of one earlier today to find a path in the Abandoned Vale that had been evading my eye after a piece before it had been uncovered. The green darkness of the map next to this uncovered pathway made me overlook it every time I walked by. I hope all that made sense. If it didn't whatever. It works. Good job. :)

You won't miss much without gf3itemschars.txt; you won't be able to get my custom items, or have your shaper and creations move fast, but z2southend.dlg contains the stat editor, as well as the ability to grant yourself certain non-custom items. However, gf3itemschars.txt should work, and I have an idea of where the problem lies. Tell me, do the first few lines look like this?

beginscenscript;

// CREATURE TYPES

begindefinecreature 9; // base creature
// This slot stores the base unedited creature.
// Used for importation.
cr_size = 128;
cr_default_script = "basicnpc";

cr_statistic 0 = 1;
cr_statistic 1 = 1;
cr_statistic 2 = 1;
cr_statistic 3 = 1;

begindefinecreature 0;
cr_name = "Shaper";
cr_graphic_template = 110;
cr_max_health = 1000;
cr_max_energy = 1000;
cr_max_essence = 1000;
cr_regen_rate = 10;
cr_energy_regen_rate = 2;
cr_walk_speed = 100; //base_speed;
cr_base_level = 130;
cr_sound_when_slain = 127;

If not, then change the line below cr_name = "Shaper"; so it reads cr_graphic_template = 110; In fact, even if it does say this, retype it in, anyway. I had problems with the editors on the forums initially due to download snafus, and inserting script myself made it work.

I assume you're using a Shaper. I realize that this might not be the case, so if you're using some other class, let me know. I just want to make sure the stuff I did works for everyone.

—Alorael, who does not recommend mixing the skydiving with the cigarettes, "love" cookies, or goats. For a variety of reasons, really. Think about it before trying the booze or other substances, please.

Alo, making porn out of cigarettes is right up there with ADOS's goat. Come to think of it, maybe I will make goats out of cigarettes and depict them doing naughty things? After all, goats ARE one of the oldest symbols of devilish carnal lust... *shudders*...nah. I was never good at arts and crafts anyway; I'd have to call two cigarettes facing each other's filters on a table "Goatse feeling oats" or something equally sad.

Seeing as how hurricane Dennis is right around the bend and giving me tropical storm force winds and flickering power every ten minutes, outdoor activities are rather risky. Skydiving is out of the question. ;)

More than likely, my friends and I will play D&D with the cookies for hours and hours as I feel myself age a little more, thus coming closer to my own demise.

Inevitability is a great excuse for living it up! :D

And thanks to all of the newcomers to the topic and the birthday wishes. I'm also content with spy.there's ASCII-cake. Excellent!

Ah, yes, the Navy. They've sent me many pamphlets in the mail about how they want me to become an officer. I don't think I'd get along well in the armed forces, even if I were in the tech sector and not a grunt soldier on the front lines. I'm not usually a cheery kind of guy, and I'd probably be bad for morale. :P

Two female friends of mine were supposed to take me to a strip bar at some point. I, however, have little desire to watch women degrading themselves for money while two insane women are sitting next to me egging me on to yell and carry on. As for Thuryl's comment along with Spring's: alcohol is very bad for the brain, and while it would be a good way to mark society's designation of my coming of age, I don't want to spend Sunday hung over or the rest of my life with a slightly lower IQ. I never said the activities had to be legal, though. I merely stated that I wanted to mark the occasion somehow. As you can probably guess, too, I've never gotten drunk before, so it would be something appropriate, if not for the after-effects.

I suppose I COULD find another way to intoxicate myself that's even more illegal, harmful to the lungs, potentially psychologically addictive, but not permanently harmful to the brain or physiologically addictive, if you get my drift, but I won't have my obligatory birthday post turn into a discussion about substance laws, so that's all I'm going to say to the alcohol comments.

Keep the ideas flowing, sirs and madams of SW! :D

I try to read them in chronological order, that is to say, not in the order that they were published, but in the order of Redwall's development. There's a chronology on www.redwall.org that I followed for quite some time until Lord Brocktree came out. At that point I read whatever I felt like and just checked the chronology to make sure I knew who was born and did what where.
