Zevis stated earlier that he couldn't hear me, so I decided to record a new one. This one should be a lot clearer than the other one. I can at least listen to it without cringing at it.

Let's hope Geocities is nice to me. EDIT: it wasn't, but the link below should work now.

I speak again. But now I speak up!

Also: ADOS, you must post a recording of you singing praise to Juicy Lucy the General Moderator! That would be quite appropriate, I think.

What's your favorite cereal? in General

Darn. First KK is bashed for being hyped up, which is understandable, but still irritating, since I think Dukin' Donuts fails to live up to its own hype (fresh doughnuts and coffee? Ha. Fresh my behind; they sell stale doughnuts whenever I eat there in the morning, when they ought to be fresh. And the coffee? eh. I'd rather brew my own at home if I really needed some.). However, then Alo lets me down with the Grape Nuts. My opinions about food are simply getting smashed here. ::laughs::

At any rate, I do enjoy cereal bars as well, and stale ones are very bad. Has anyone eaten/seen a cereal lately called Honey Nut Clusters? I know it was produced by General Mills some years ago and was essentially Honey Bunches of Oats with no flakes. I'm not sure if it is still manufactured.

And can anyone stand bran cereals with those "fiber twigs" in them? Those taste like cardboard and sand to me, and are the only cereals I won't stand to eat (or sit, or lie down, for that matter).

Ooo! I was waiting for someone to inquire about my random numbers and letters. Well, you sort of did, Alo, so that's sufficient enough to warrant a story in my book.

Right, well, the SLP is an abbreviation of "Slippy" of the popular Starfox series. I was a big fan of the SNES and N64 games back in the day. 006 is the agent number of Alec Trevelian (sp) of the movie Goldeneye. It's sort of a slick clue towards my actual name.

At least, I thought it was really slick ten years or so ago. I've used this handle on the Internet since I was about eight years old, since I despise change. It just sort of stuck with me, I suppose, and it seems to amuse everyone online...at least until they find out the story behind it. Oh well. Maybe I'll put it on a license plate someday.

I was a little surprised when I didn't see Corn Pops in there as well. I frequently eat them whenever I'm hungry and too lazy to eat anything that requires preparation. Besides, I can't prepare anything besides toast; I fear setting the house on fire.

Well, actually, I can use a microwave oven, but I try to limit my microwave usage, and am not too fond of microwavable food anyway.

Oh, and hats off to Alo for enjoying Grape Nuts. It's actually one of my favorites, most likely because of all the carbs. I love carb-rich food. Take away my bread and you take part of my soul.

Also, my ideal brekkie (I used Aussie slang :D ) consists of six fresh, glazed doughnuts from Krispy Kreme along with some cold milk. Those things are worse than a bucket of pure lard in terms of what they do to one's body, but that's why they taste so great. To add even more pain to my body, if I have some left over the next day, I'll microwave them to get the oil and sugar all good again. I'm almost certain they stick illegal substances in the batter. Any Spidwebber who can't find a Krispy Kreme somewhere is missing out on a wonder of the capitalist world.

Nethergate Update Poll in Nethergate

I, for one, would like Jeff to Carbonize Nethergate so I don't have to run it on Classic, which has given me some problems over the past month. That's the worthiest update I can think of, but it's unnecessary for Windoze users.

Instead of a face-lift, a Nethergate 2 would be a neat idea. I need more Celts!

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I first tried it. It was in a couple of obscure posts on the Classic tech support forums at Apple. The method might seem silly, but it also seems to work. Perhaps the tech support guys at Apple should read the forums more often. :P

Isn't life wonderfully ironic?

I know this really isn't my place to inform you, but Schrodinger's press release is here, an article by one Francis Reddy on how some experiments conducted upon meteorites by Schrodinger's research team suggest that Earth's phosphorous is largely extra-terrestrial. I'm curious as to how this is working out in the scientific community, actually. It would explain why Schrodinger is so busy, at least.

Oh, and I found the article by searching for Schrodinger's name on Astronomy.com based on the URL for that photo, by the way.

I imagined Zaiu's voice to sound something like the way it does. Anyone who has a distinct love for furry creatures will never have a harsh voice. That would be an affront to humanity.

On that note, Zevis's response to my recording proves to me that I am an affront to humanity since I quite obviously fit the scenario described above. My voice is the bane of speaker systems, because it comes out "bass-ish" according to some. If you have the bass turned down or off, you won't hear me at all. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you beyond the fact that Technology is a fickle entity, and enjoys late-night walks on the beach with Fate. It seems that the two have had a little too much "cosmic nectar" and decided that they ought to get a few laughs at my recording's expense.

At any rate, don't ask me to pick out an individual from SoCal from a line of people based on sound alone; that would be very hard for me to do, since I can't detect an accent in Dolphin's voice for the life of me.

I haven't a clue, but if you've reinstalled without noticing a change, then try the following. It fixed my messed up sounds for SW games that run in Classic, so maybe this will work for OSX sound glitches too.

Quit BoA. Go to "Applications" and launch GarageBand. After it completes its initialization, quit GarageBand, and launch BoA.

Alrighty, let's see if this works properly. I hate recording my own voice, so this clip is hardly anything to write home about. At least it's audible and clear enough to hear any accent I might possess.

Here it is. just click "download" wherever you see it once you click the link. This way I don't have to trouble Kel with something as inane as this.

EDIT: Ah, boo. Okay, I'll go bother Kel. Kelandon, thanks for volunteering to host this silliness. I wish technology would work correctly all the time. I got it to work on my end, so I'll leave the link up in case anyone else has the same luck with it.

Wow, this thread has turned from a turbulent election to one concerning the vast intricacies of language. Well, okay, perhaps discussing accents isn't exactly an intricacy, but this is still very fun for me.

"For the record":
Thuryl sounds quite British to me, though I have no reason to doubt his Aussie-ness
Ash sounds like an Aussie
Stug does indeed have a slight midwestern American accent
Zevis's Russian accent is well, very Russian. Replacing "th" with a "z" ("like zis") reminds me very much of the way Germans speak English, due to the absence of the "th" sound. I imagine this is a similar case in Russian.

I think my accent is very much an American one, but I'm interested to discover how everyone will judge it. As such, I'll be recording myself very soon.

I say congratulations to Thuryl as well, and may he (continue to) help make Spiderweb as interesting as possible. As one of our few active Aussie members, I think we should raise the Australian flag in his honor.

Go Australia! Go Thuryl!

Who plays pencil and paper roleplaying games? in General
Warrior
Member # 5986

I was going to post this sooner or later, so here it is. I know a good chunk of Spidwebbers play D&D based on some references to it in a post here and there, but I'm curious as to how large the roleplaying community actually is amongst members of this community. The questions are too broad to warrant a poll, so just answer these questions as fully as you can.

Right, so do you play a pencil and paper roleplaying game? Is it D&D, Whitewolf, Ironclaw, etc...

What campaign setting do you use?

What ruleset do you use?

How often do you play? How many people do you play with?

What is your favorite type of non-six-sided die? Do you have "lucky dice"?

Have you ever been DM or GM? How long did your longest campaign last?

Which company is your favorite publisher of roleplaying material?

Do you subscribe to any roleplaying magazines?

And no, I'm not conducting a survey to put in some magazine, and have no intention of selling this material to anyone, or giving it away, or whatever else someone can think of to flag this post as a CoC violation. This is simply an exercise in appeasing my own curiosity.

A Waste of Time? in General

These boards are full of individuals with interests and degrees of insanity similar to my own, so the discussions on the boards are quite satisfying. I have friends who also share my mindset to some extent, but they are not always available, and even when they are I might not always be in the chattiest of moods. SW is full of concentrated "geek," so I enjoy the opened-mindedness in a thoughtful topic or even the ramblings that go on forever, in most cases. Usually, the topics are sufficiently intelligent enough and twisted enough to pique my interest. If not, I can always create one and never fear a lack of relevant responses, or at least spam that's extremely humorous. Yes, it's all very fun, and when you have a lot of time to kill as I do at the moment, you look forward to wasting the day away like this. Also note that even though you never see the person at the other end of the board, there's still someone writing on the other end. The written word is often just as good, and even clearer than the spoken word (many foreign language speakers tend to write English better than they speak it, based on my findings); If I never hear a voice or see a face, that's fine– I'm able to see their soul through the words. Granted, putting something more physical to the spirit is nice, but not necessary in my case.

I light of recent events (being absent from the boards for even a day is a bad thing. Look what I missed.) I quickly change my vote from Arancaytar to Stug. I hope the community isn't torn asunder by politics; that would be very sad to me.

Arancaytar.

Of course, this is not meant to be taken personally by Stug or Thuryl. Besides, it looks like the big T from down under is going to take it, at this point. Good luck to the trio.

Three weeks, and this is recent. I'm recovering from foot surgery, and the first cast I had on couldn't afford to get wet at all, and I didn't feel like risking it. Now that I'm on the 6th week and in a new cast, I can use a rubber sealing sock on my leg to shower with. Since I wasn't too active over the last three weeks, I didn't smell too bad...I think. Anti-perspirant works well.
