The "secret area" is actually part of a quest. Ideally, you would have gotten a special wand from someone or other which would protect against falling damage. However, it seems you never ran into the wand nor the quest. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

The fact that there are necromancers named Necros is a theatrical effect. In games where the backstory of these characters is not inspected with great detail, I'm leaning towards the idea that rather than being the effect of nominative determinism, it is in fact the choice on the author's part to give them a relevant name. For example: Dialog 1 (Casually named necromancer): "Bob has lived on Cemetery Hill ever since his wife died." Dialog 2 (Theatrically named): "Necros has lived on Cemetery Hill ever since his wife died." See how "Bob" is quite disruptive to the building of suspense, while "Necros" makes it quite clear what's going to happen? -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

You only use Bolt of Fire in the most early part of the game. After gaining about five levels, it's useless. I see no reason why 20 extra damage to one target would top 80 damage to multiple targets. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

Once you're in the game, your character's don't automatically learn spells in accordance with their casting level. You have to buy spells from mages and priests. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

That didn't occur to me because I only read The Cask of Amontillado recently, and I played Avernum 3 years ago. But it seems that that is indeed the reference. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

I hate outdoor sections. Vengefully. Too uncontrolled. And scripting effects are much harder to enact outdoors. EDIT: "Hate" is spelled with an "t". [ Friday, October 14, 2005 13:19: Message edited by: Knot Eye ] -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

Well sure, you can make the terrain and towns first, then scripts, then check everything. Or, you can make a one-town scenario. One quest, one plot. Nothing fancy, not even difficult. Then you can play it through and see where you need to improve. Then you release it for beta and other people tell you were you need to improve. And that's how you become better. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

The last real food I had was a cheap 1.50$ Spicy Chicken Sandwitch (but really a burger) from the lunch carts on the Redlands High School Campus. The last thing I ingested was a large Coke from the Redlands Boulevard Bakers. EDIT: This proves my devotion because the almighty Richard has at some point in the near past's alternate refractory future posess the mind of one of the workers and lead them in the mighty White's Revolution, which will have been in response to the dreaded Black's Revolution, which will have been a conspiracy by the evil Triad's Orange Revolution. EDIT 2: I was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt, covered by a dark blue sweater. Oh, and boxers. I remembered to wear underwear today! Yay! Exile has Magic Map. Avernum has Far Sight. It's considerably less powerful, and only useful if you suspect you're missing something. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

When I went to Iran for the summer, my family's laptop became incredibly slow, with the processor operating at 100% capacity and no programs running. In the end, it turned out that the circuit rotation was different or some such nonsense; but by that time we had killed it and had to reinstall everything once we got back to the U.S. Point of the story: are you using the computer in a different locale than the area you bought it from? I'm glad you've decided to see TM in action before passing judgement, Synergy67. And whether or not TM is abrasive/funny, he's still caused pages of discussion on things more important than which party you should use. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |
