Let's not get all crazy with posting in this thread now. Remember that soccer/futbol is a game of patience, and the Cup lasts a solid month, and that this thread will remain open for comment and commentary the whole time. No need to beat the rush. Really. Will US make it to the round of 16? I think not, they face too large of a challenge from the Group of Death. Certainly they will win 1 game, maybe get a tie, but they will lose the third game, giving them 3 points (Opponents getting 2,3,4 points) but this no big goal scorers they will lose the tiebreaker (Total goals scored) Your thoughts? -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

You could try tossing some old silverware into the CPU case. That tends to slow things down a bit. Or switch back to Windows 2000, it runs all the good stuff and is cheap on auction sites. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:What do you find odd about a three eyed fishing walking down a Delhi street? I mean really, haven't you seen three eyed fish before? Do you need to stare at any old thing that looks the slightest bit different? You ought to be ashamed. Tsk. Oh, you probably meant the walking bit. I agree, unless the fish was looking for exercise, since most three eyed fish are wealthy and would tend to prefer taking a cab in order to avoid being stared at by people like you!!! :P -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Theory - Newer, crappier chemical added to avgas creates chemtrails with reddish precipitate. All the really cool stuff happens way far away from where I am. That sucks. I'll start etching messages in corn fields in preparation for the arrival of the overlords. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I was about 11 years old, hiking and camping in the north woods of Ontario, about 5 hours north of Sudbury. We were about 3 days into the hike when we had to camp on a gentle granite slope. Around 4am I woke up because of the screaming next to me. It turns out there was a big rainstorm and it had flipped over the tent. My sleeping bag had rolled over my tent-mates, and with the combination of that and 4" of water in that side of the tent, he was a bit panicked. From then on we didn't camp on bedrock, and made sure that we did a better job of tying down the various ropes and such that kept the tent functional. It was a fun trip, we did a round trip of around 300 miles, hiking and canoing. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

If you are worried about the real hike, you might grab a few friends and start hiking on a daily basis. Just a few miles, both up and down hill, and your feet and legs will begin to learn about the process. The marathon two day hike won't be all that bad if you've done that preperatory work. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Most Oregonians believe that they live so far from the Federal capital that it may as well be the South Pole. Thusly, independent of Dmknoiygba, I admitted to being a resident of Antartica. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Odin is the name of the boat I fish. Regularly my life continues at the discretion of Odin. Old one eye is an easy fellow with whom to get along, so long as he receives regular blood sacrifices. I comply often. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Intraspecies and interspecies organ donation may suggest that life (simple, cellular life) is not complex. True, the human being is complex as it an amalgam of many organs, but each of those organs can be autonomous. If you are talking about human consciousness, that is a different thing and has long been the subject of philosophers, not evolutionary biologists. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I suspect that you will also find specific information about a carbon structure if it has formed a diamond. For example, nearby mineral types, amount of pressure involved in the formation, etc. Likewise, ice is of many types, depending on the initial conditions. Information is all around us, and in many forms, if we choose to see it rather than discount it. Darwin was never a marketeer of his theory of the origin of the species to the extent that certain present day individuals are marketing ID. That, in and of itself, is the bit that worries a lot of people. There may not be a lot of substance within the ID argument, but with the right Madison Avenue glitz it will be difficult to convince a lot of people otherwise. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:The folks at the National Hurricane Center in Florida will be ecstatic to hear that you have figured out hurricanes lack complexity. But then again, the author may just be changing conventional definitions to fit a hypothesis that requires it, by design. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:DeBeers. Edit 1 - Ice. Two separate examples that share a common theme. Edit 2 - Hurricane. Tornado. Really, this is ridiculously easy. I'll have to stop before I start chuckling. Edit 3 - The snowflake, although I wouldn't expect you to have firsthand knowledge of that little intricacy. quote:Chloroplasts do the work (they are organelles) and chlorophyll is a pigment that facilitates the switch from light energy (photon) to chemical energy (in ATP and NADPH). I guess I don't see it as particularly complex, 6 CO2 + 12 H2O + ATP + NADPH -> C6H12O6 + 6 O2 + 6 H2O is a sample transaction that takes place in only two steps. Perhaps Thuryl, stareye, or SoT could give you some examples that fix the definition of complex more closely, while staying clear of the unknown or unclear. -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

The wonderful thing evolution is that you can predict it and then watch and see it happen. I've yet to sit back and see Intelligent Design happen. If there truly was divine guidance in the construction of all known (past and present and future), I will be so bold as to suggest that Intelligent gives far more credit than is due. And that is a big If. :D -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |
