Wow.

Argentina is a goal scoring machine these days, although to be fair, their opponent forgot to tie shoelaces before the match. Luckily the blue and white are sportsmen and helped them out by tying them into one big knot.

I predict that Serbia-Montenegro will never qualify for the World Cup ever again. Ever.

Far more likely is that Jeff wants to play a game. I hear the 360 has decent graphics.

From Hints.txt, which is packaged with the scenario.
quote:
For a party, here's what's going on: after you walk past a particular spot, your lead character disappears. He is around the corner, spelled up and charmed.
I've omitted the balance, as it is a spoiler. Read for yourself to find out the answer to the puzzle.

Edit - Bah.

And with that, I've decided to introduce TM to Mrs. Necessity in the hopes that lots of little inventions will soon be on their way.

Now, is it too soon to pick the names, or have the shower?

From the typical place.
quote:
There has been much speculation about the use of technology to bring dinosaurs back to life. In Michael Crichton's book Jurassic Park, which popularized the idea, scientists use blood from fossilized mosquitos that have been suspended in tree sap since the Mesozoic to reconstruct the DNA of dinosaurs, filling chromosomal gaps with modern frog genes. It is probably impossible to resurrect dinosaurs in this manner. One problem with the amber extraction method is that DNA decays over time by exposure to air, water and radiation, making it unlikely that such an approach would recover any useful DNA (DNA decay can be measured by a racemization test).

The successful extraction of ancient DNA from dinosaur fossils has been reported on two separate occasions, but upon further inspection and peer review, neither of these reports could be confirmed.[29] However, a functional visual peptide of a (theoretical) dinosaur has been inferred using analytical phylogenetic reconstruction methods on gene sequences of still-living related species (reptiles and birds).[30]

Even if dinosaur DNA could be reconstructed, it would be exceedingly difficult to "grow" dinosaurs using current technology since no closely related species exist to provide zygotes or a suitable environment for embryonic development.

Also, apparently some of the thingies that still are alive today (unchanged by evolution) are not technically dinosaurs. It was a small sub-class of the range of nasty thud-thud monsters that existed in the way back back (65-230 million years ago). Even though crocs, alligators, and sharks, plus the freakie-deakies on the list are still pumping blood, it just means that they are superior life forms that didn't need to evolve to cope with changes in their habitat.

And unless I'm mistaken, there is no actual proof (multiple sighting, photo, etc) that the Ivory billed woodpecker was not hunted to extinction last century.

:)

Next up in the game are the C group matches (Argentina v Serbia-Montenegro and Netherlands v Ivory Coast) and the first D group match (Mexico v Angola).

Thursday left Paraguay and Costa Rica eliminated from round 2, but TnT is hanging on, hoping for a win versus Paraguay and for England to beat Sweden while permitting Sweden to score fewer goals than are scored by TnT in the Paraguay match.

Yes, I will be watching Australia v Brazil as the middle game on Sunday. Luckily the 6am game is unimportant, so I can sleep in a bit.

Re England: Mooney left me uninspired, Crouch is still a liability, and they all were extremely lucky. There is nothing wrong with luck. :)

I will be watching to see if Crouch morphs into a spider and scuttles around the field of play.

Seriously though, that England is playing down to their opponent (by selecting the level of player that they are) gives an enormous boost to the opponents. That much cockiness is usually rewarded with upset. Given the levels of hooliganism in England, I'm surprised that they just don't play the straight dominating game of which they are capable.

Crouch...Sprouch...Crider...Cridch...Spouer...Cridch...Spider...Crouch...Spider :P

Shadowed by poor play and bad luck, Costa Rica ended their chances this morning by allowing Ecuador to space out three goals over regulation play. A late substitution by Costa Rica led to some good scoring chances in the 89th minute, but it was too late. By winning, they eliminate Poland as well.

(3-0) Note - 3rd consecutive World Cup shutout. Keeper has been identified as untried in World Cup play and the strong defensive support may turn into a liability when fast-attack teams like Brazil challenge for a goal.

Next game - England v (cue AC/DC) Trinidad and Tobago in 40 minutes. Next-next game Sweden v Paraguay.

Local News story re: Germany-Poland game.

Police got called because of soccer related rioting in the streets before the match. The responding team of officers called back in to the dispatcher that it was a a group of about one hundred well known hooligans. The hooligans immediately began to fight the police.

That's just awesome.

Back in Oregon again I can now return to the tired world of the soccer pundit.

How did the Ukraine place in the field of teams? I caught a little bit of the game in an airport and they just looked awful.

The US team should re-book their flight home.

TnT, at 2000-1 odds of winning the Cup, just tied Sweden with only 10 men. Sweden is at 44-1 odds.

How does that make TnT not threatening? They are clearly a team with the heart and drive, which is exactly what it takes to win soccer games. Sweden has two tough matches coming up, and they must beat Paraguay or England to advance. It will be the game v Paraguay if they want to go on. Given their level of frustration and anger at losing a game they assumed would be won, I hope they drop out in the first cut. Trinadad & Tobago is a much more exciting team to watch.

I only watched the 2nd half, due to prior committments with sleep. Paraguay looked strong coming out, but after 25-30 minutes was tired and England controlled the ball. Tall Crouch (my memory said that was a Rowling name, so I replaced with Cole) seems to be a liability, and Beckham was typical Beckham. All hype. I wanna see the kid play.

SoT: Yes, the drawing in December for grouping is very important and can decide the fate of mediocre teams before the first touch. It is unfortunate, but it's the system that has been played for a while now. Conceivably you could have Czech, England, Brazil, and Argentina all in the same group, but the guys doing the drawing would have a rather shortened lifespan.

Although ... that does sound like a good show.

Ecuador upsets Poland 2-0 !!!!!!! (Sorry Kel)

I was watching Univision tonight and it showed the President of Ecuador talking about the great victory in Europe. Apparently they will now celebrate for 1 megasecond.

I'll get up at 6 tomorrow to watch that game, unfortunately I missed todays games and have to take a plane trip tomorrow, so will miss most of that as well. Bah.
