Yur right, sir. But. . . er. . . maybe they enjoy the pain since they feel they are somehow using that pain to punish themselves for their sins? Maybe they are all Irish monks who. . . Okay. I can't justify how that would be a good idea. Nope. Just can't. Can't even say that that somehow explains why the adventurers are better than anybody else. That was just one bad, bad idea. (who would it be worse for, men or women?) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Ah, nostalgia. In the good old days waaaay back when I first joined the fora (less than a year ago) I had hopes that I would be spare of four more year of the Bushies. It seems the only thing that changed was that there are some fresh faces in that oligarchy. I also had high hopes for a better world, for Chavez to be the only (hu)(man) in the ultra-secret first manned trip to Venus and fall TV line-up bereft of crappy reality shows. Pfui. I'm keeping my hopes on a more tolerable fanboy level (dissapointment is easier to take), so now I'm only hoping Episode III doesn't suck (please. . .) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Trinity and Aran: couldn't agree more. In the commas department, since I come from a non-English background, and that background is commas/clauses heavy I tend to use way too much of both. I had a similar experience to Trinity. Even though I've been living the last few years in the same country that sprouted me (literally the Earth just puked me, long story), I cam here with ten good solid years of English speaking (grammar still sucked. It has always sucked.), and living here plus working as an ESL teacher (I know, I can pull out that kind of job in this country, not in many others), has started to affect me. One of the things they like to do here, which still hasn't permeated my English communication is "for to something," instead of "to something." (i.e. "I went to the supermarket to get something for to eat." or "I need some money for to buy a candy"), and there are other examples. (oh, and let's not even get into my abuse of parenthesis, which, unfortunately, I can't blame any language for. That's just me and me alone. Another good reason why Mr. Shaitan has a nice warm little cul-de-sac waiting for me in Hell.) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Depends on where I am in the game. In general, though: Fyoras/Thads at the beginning (I avoid Vlish and Artilas, but that's just me. They both have sympathizers, specially the Tentacle beauties (no sarcasm there)) Drayks/Plated Bugs. (I sometimes use Battle Alphas, but if I go that route I wait a bit for Battle Gammas who stick around in the party a bit longer) Cryodrayks when I can have them. I use them for the entire game if possible. Eyebeasts are indeed tough mammas (or daddas, or dadaist if that makes any sense), but they exhaust their energy way too fast and are way too expensive. I rather have a couple of gazers. Drakons: okay. I create one or two (if I can) just for kicks and grins. I love the rotghroth. It takes a while to create them, but once I hardly ever have a party without one. My all time favorite combo though, is: a brainwashed follower of the Ornk Lord (you can find one in each game but you have to be a big fan of Banana Splits to start on that secret route), a Golem, a Translourescent Shade and a servile to serve as a beast of burden, feet washer/polisher and general all around lackey. -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

With Essence and Health pools you (and your creations) just need to stand next to them and your health/essence/energy will regenerate fairly fast. (note, this also works in combat mode but of course it's slower) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

(a general want: even though it seems it will use a similar engine to that of the GF games, I hope it looks as far remove from GF and as close to the previous Averna games as possible. GF3 had bathrooms, though (or I thought they were bathrooms, maybe they were something else) so that can part of GF can be used. Heck, who knows, we may even have to play it singleton (no party choice) and all the critters will be of a general variety (I guess creations will be pushing it too far. Maybe we'll have three types: Goblin stuff, Giant stuff and Invisible stuff stuff.)) Kilts that can be worn over armor (underneath the armor, of course, nothing is worn) Will this be the first Avernum without Erika? Can her ashes play a part in the storyline somehow? Maybe she can appear as a ghost. An Avernum game without Erika scarcely bears thinking about. Well. . . this is a pipe dream, an perhaps not the worthiest worth dreaming of but. . . how about being able to fight with two weapons? I said this before, excuse the redundancy: please, please, no regional division of the game. Please. (oh and another redundant please: no more of the Big Bad Guy kind of plotline. A plot like 1 or 2 in as far as there were multiple major quests and though the Empire was the main bad guy in the 1st, there were other things the party was trying to accomplish. Similarly with A2 where we had to deal with the Empire and the Vahnatai.) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

(cool story Zorro! Poetic Justice of a kind? Although I once read a notice from the programmers of Warlords that said how angry and sorry they were at the shift in platforms. Ay. With a PC you can play Warlords III (pretty cool), IV (not bad at all) and the Battlecry series, I hate those but I'm a minority, evidently, since they have like 3 of them or so out. So far) Another oldie RPG for the Mac. If you can find this one: "Legends of the Lost Realm" by the Avalon Hill Computer Games Company (that's right) Also, don't forget the Gold Boxed D&D games. And one more in this post: "Quarterstaff" by Infocom. Not quite an RPG, but not quite an graphic adventure game either. A bit of a hybrid. Edit: Ooops, if I say "Gold Boxed" I guess that means they are boxed in Gold? I get all the Hint books, but that's just me being anal retentive. They are alright. But sooner or later there'll be a Walkthrough for Geneforge 3, and you can always come to the boards and ask your questions. So, if you have better uses for the 7 bucks or so that it costs, don't bother. My native language is Spanish, but I'm not very good at it (I'm serious, no kidding. I handle Spanish worse than English. Scary, huh?) This place sure improves my English. Anything that makes me write anything and forces me to sit on my lazy butt and read is appreciated these days. (spy.there: I think the option now to choose multiple people in the second question is fine as it is. Only one option would suck, I think) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Ancient: Wizardry I (well, that's pre-historic) Old: Wizardrt VI and VII, Might and Magic I-V (? or VI?, though M&M I-II are ancient-pre-historic) Modern: Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale, Deus Ex, Summoner. Online: Lineage. (what about World of Warcraft? I've never played online games, but I've enjoyed all the games that Blizzard has done) Also, these aren't RPGs, but they exist for the Mac, and I think they're a nice series: Ancient: King's Bounty. Old: Heroes of Might and Magic I. Not So Old: HoM&M II. Modern: HoM&M III. Also, and these are old/not so old: Warlords I and II (damn corporations didn't let them do III for Mac. Unless someone did so later???) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

I've played the three within the last month. I think they're all pretty much the same. The pros and cons in each of them, for me, more or less cancel each other out (within the parameters of the general feeling/mechanics/gameplay of these games). So if you've like the GF series so far, you'll probably like GF3 as well. Jeff isn't re-inventing the GF wheel. It seems that GF4, at least plot wise, will be different. We'll see next year (I guess). -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

*) A second ring, at least. #) Be able to equip both missile and melee weapons. !) More creatures, different creatures. It seems that this world is either bereft of nasty critters (outside of creations and shades, which some have been illegally shaped). () It makes sense that we begin as a human, or servile. That way Jeff can keep up his leitmotiv of being amazed by the things we see (look a spawner, look a drakon!). -) Not as much better dialogues (they're alright but could be improved), but make sure that we have dialogue choices according to our actions. An example: If I kill the Serviles in Stonespire, why can't I tell this to Agatha? Instead she goes hell bent on killing them all and the game acts as if she did. Other examples of this type exist in all three games. %) It seems we're going back to a continent, but if we aren't and we'll have the same structure as GF3, then an easier way to retrace our steps to previous areas. $) Shops where you can buy back what you sold. ^) More creations. @) This is a pipe dream and will never, ever happen: be able to export characters to the next game. )) Another pipe dream: be able to carry our plotline to the next game. +) And yet another pipe dream: be able to start the game with a party of adventurers. ~) Ignore the last three. -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Thanks man! I sometimes don't follow these things closely. I hope they don't cancel it. But, are you surprised that they will? The ax falls sometimes on worthy necks, but often enough it falls on the necks of those less worthy of it. Although, to be frank, I'm used to it. It seems that every show I like (with three exceptions) has to be cancelled. A few make it to the end. Anyway, thank you. -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Nothing's going on here in the same way that nothing's ever going on where you see cops or other law enforcement agents straddling or yoodling their fingers and their teeth aboot. I guess a rain of frogs might be nice (as long as we're inside a strong building, away from windows (just in case the wind picks up)), or maybe we could all have a furry orgy, that might be more of a thing happening, or maybe even a happening thing. Or, we can all get together and do a surprise party for any of these celebrities: (all born on a Gregorian April 19th (miss Caesar, I liked Caesar's division of days better. Cries and whimpers. Whispering like)) Ashely Judd Tim Curry Dudley Moore (this might require some necromantic practices, but have no fear, that's easy as pi) Jayne Mansfield (we can do some kind of race thingy for her, or crash pretending. Or, even better, we can find those responsible for her accident and make sure they understand the evil act they perpetrated when they removed from this world one of the actress with the most ample resume around) Hugh O' Brian: We can do a paint ball reenactment of the Ok Corral for him. There will be poker and dancing and other activities in the saloon afterwards. Eliot Ness: He may have died, but Kevin Costner hasn't and since everybody loves the greatest Robin Hood ever, we could also throw a surprise party for him dressed as C.I.A operatives who have finally discovered what his racket really is, and the true meaning of JFK and Thirteen Days. Or we can just plant a tree. -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Vote for Homeland, because I could not help myself, I'm weak. But, I shouldn't have since it is not a SpidWeb game. Also, I wonder if too many people voting for this may give someone unacquainted with the game the wrong idea and they'll download it, try it, and lose about ten years of their Maximun Possible Years To Live. (I thought about creating a new account to ractify the mistake, but I can't. I now have to clean my bunker and use it again as a storage. So much for the end of the world. . . grumble. . . stupid Malachias. . . grumble. . . stupid me for buying that stupid book and believing in all of it and why can't the Catholic Church play ball once and for all and let the world end already. They've been doing their darnest to hold the inevitable for too long already. He was known as the Cardinal of Iron (Cardenal de Hierro). He is (was?) also a rather hardcore man. He chose the name Benedict because of Benedict XV (1854-1922, Pontiff: 1914-1922) because he was considered to be a very diplomatic Pope) There had been quite some talk before Ratzinger's election that the Church would more than likely elect an old Pope who would serve as a transition. Notice that it took little over a Day to make this decision, which also makes sense since they would want to avoid a prolong period that might cast negative publicity on the Church. Even though the man is 78 years old, he is in good health (as opposed to how John Paul II was when he was 78, his health had already been deteriorating for a while), so he might last, God willing, maybe even a decade. (bad news: I guess this won't be the one. Far as I know there's no linking him with Malachias' stuff) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

3) I had the same problem with the Wand of Inferno. I finally (finally!) found one, if I'm not mistaken, while exploring Gull Island (needless to say the experience rewarded at that time was negligible, but I finally saw that quest completed, I had felt like a fool for using the Wand of Inferno so early in the game (I went to the Creator's lair very early, after only about 7 or so explored regions. . .)) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |
