Memories of Things Long Past at Spiderweb in General

I have this vague memory that Drakefyre and someone else shared an avatar presenting some Mega Man character with a big, red helmet. I also have this funny memory about the New Inn of Blades RP, where someones character entered the scene wearing nothing expect his chainmail. Someone responded that with an IC comment that went something like "Good grief man, put some pants on!" :D

OOC: I know I should post, but I too am completely out of ideas. I'll give it a shot tomorrow, when I have better time. In the meantime, if someone else is not as empty-headed as I am, please, post something to carry on the plot. Zephyr, if you're still around, please tell about what your character has been doing all this time. I at least would like hear that. Oh, and if you still could e-mail me that explanation of how your character is related to Órloki, I'd be very happy. And Thrallni, you too could tell about what your character is doing, just don't attack anyone head on. Perhaps that could spark my exhausted imagination a little.

OoC: I'll give it a shot and try to get this back on it's feet. Sorry if I spoil someones plans, though.

IC:

Tuulentekija woke up to a horrible pain surging from his right shoulder. Where in the hell am I? he thought and tried to crawl back to his feet, but the pain from his burns caused him to lose balance and so he fell down again and hit his head.

"No voi helvetin perkele!" Tuulentekija cursed when he again stumbled back up, holding his head. He had noticed that his mask was missing, but when tried to look around for it, blood flowed down his face obscuring his vision. Tuulentekija tried to sweep the blood away, but to no avail.

"I see you finally woke up." Tuulentekija heard someone say. "What the-" Tuulentekija shouted and whirled around to face whoever was talking. The pain from his feet, however, caused him to stagger and so he almost lost his balance again.

"I have waited for your arrival, Risto Roopenpoika", the invisible speaker said. "I am positively surprised that you've actually made it this far." Tuulentekija was about to ask the speaker who the hell he was, when memories suddenly came to his mind. Memories about the weird dream. Memories about the warnings.

"I see you know my true name, then" Tuulentekija said. "I then assume you to be the master of this mountain, or whoever who gave us those warnings."

"Your assumption is correct", the speaker said. "I see your mind is as sharp as it was years ago."

"Years ago?" Tuulentekija asked with a confused tone. "What are you talking about?"

"Of course, if I hadn't remembered you, I wouldn't have summoned you" the speaker continued. "It is only a coincidence that I even know of you. If you hadn't visited our village years ago-"

"Wait a second" Tuulentekija interrupted. "You say that I've visited this mountain before?" Tuulentekija was growing more confused every second. "Of course, I could have visited this mountain before, but I certainly have no memory of it. I've seen dozens of mountains and hundred of villages during my life. What should have made that occasion any special?"

"Of course, I didn't expect you to remember it. It was quite a long ago, when-..." The voice suddenly stopped. For a glimpse of a second, Tuulentekija thought that he could hear two voices instead of one, arguing each other. Then the speaker again continued. "It wasn't very usual those days for a foreign noble to visit a small backwater town as ours. Of course, I didn't think you were any special then, but when I later learned about your special deeds-..."

That was too much for Tuulentekija. Memories, and not so pleasant ones, popped to his mind. "Special deeds? SPECIAL DEEDS!? I've lived in exile more than 20 years. Anything I ever did is only a fairy tale told to small children, and then YOU come and dare to summon me to this accursed place! That is outrage-!"

"What is going on here?" a female sound suddenly said. However, unlike other sounds, this one didn't originate from the room around. Actually, Tuulentekija felt like it came from inside his own head.

"Ah, Miss Edith. I see you have made it here, too. Please, make yourself comfortable", The speaker said. "Filbert? Tuulentekija? It's warming to see you're alive, but what are you arguing about?" Edith replied, but Tuulentekija only heard the first two words. What? It's Filbert who is talking? Tuulentekija thought in confusion. But t hat's impossible! That is not Filbert's voice!

P.S. Muji...you know, it's kind of my personal take and bias that humans are spirit beings inhabiting human bodies and animals do not house the same kind of spirit. But I have to admit that I also believe all things are of spirit and from One Source ultimately, so I can't really say what the distinction might be. Some suggest animals have a collective animal soul and humans have discrete soul (spirit). I don't know. Western thought has much to learn from east and vice-versa. Your thinking on the matter could entirely be correct without negating my belief that humans have a particular sort of unique role spiritually. I don't know, and I don't know that it matters as much as I have typically been inclined to believe it does.

If we take as fact (for the sake of this discussion, of course, since we can't -really- know) that all things come from the One...
If we broaden the concept of "The One Source" to contain material things as well, science has already made a good theory about what "The One" could be. What it comes "To The One", I always like to look at things from that view point.

quote:

That we can question and seek to understand seems to be a characteristic only possessed in our present world by homo sapiens sapiens (not passing judgment on our ancestors). This is a trait that has never been observed in other animals, to the best of my knowledge. Arguably, in time, this might lead us to a higher state of being which might be beyond the reach of animals...?
Actually, it seems that our "cousin" species, like gorillas and chimpansees also have a limited ability to contemplate the meaning of life, as well as some big whales and dolphins do. Plus, the research on this has merely began; it has already been proven that we're not alone on this planet, but it is yet unknown what we will find in the end. So discard the picture of human as the only sentient being already, it won't take you anywhere. I agree with the harmony/disharmony thing, though; it seems that only species who have reached the third level of consciousness (beings who are concious of self) with nimble fingers have been able to mess the balance of nature this badly.

All Hallow's eve is not celebrated here in Finland. Or at least, it hasn't been celebrated here for a long time. Originally, here it was called Kekri and it was actually a new year's party with no ghosts or goblins involved whatsoever. And besides, we already have Nuutinpäivä for trick'n'treating.

5) As before, a trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by dropping a heavy weight in front of it. As it happens, there is a very fat man next to you - your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save five. Should you proceed?

6) As before, a trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people, all children under 10. You can divert its path by flipping a switch, but if you do, the trolley will continue down an alternate track towards five senior citizens. Do you flip the switch?

1) I've done a test on this, and I score negatively in both feminity and masculinity. I appear as male, though.

2) I hate organisations. Religions are organisations. Thus I hate religions. That doesn't prevent me of being spiritual, though.

3) Neither. Wolves eat other animals, what prevents me of doing it?

4 & 5)Killing five people at once is more cost-effective than killing just one.

6) So you give me a choice between five people and five people... I choose five people.

I myself certainly don't like the turn this RP has taken. Not at all. But before I do anything, I too want to know who are still in. And Zephyr, could you please email the explanation of your character's and Órloki's relation to me. I definetly want to tie some loose ends.

I also request that others won't post any IC before I am done. In other words, IC under construction.

Hoping for quick replies, FF.

...that have taken place around you during the last 120 minutes. I've had a particularly silly morning today: first, my dog woke me up by jumping on my face, my little brother put all the lights out just when I was going to rise up, it was so misty when I was biking to school that I could barely see my nose and now my friend spilled his coffee all over his keyboard! Plus, I saw a beautiful rainbow on my way to school! Now how have your last two hours went?

Yes, I'm gloriously bored. Why?

They were at the gate. Again. Something is different , Tuulentekija thought when the elf sprinted to the door. Just a blink of eye later, the gate suddenly swung open, the surprised elf barely managing to jump out of the way. Tuulentekija froze as he heard the sudden wave of sounds, coming from the spce behind the gate. "I'm coming", Tuulentekija heard someone shout. It took him some time to realize that the shouter was Filbert. He could also hear more distant voice of something crumbling down.

"What are you waiting for?" Tuulentekija shouted and started stumbling forwards. "Run already. Filbert and Cain can be in serious danger!" Others, who had meanwhile stared the suddenly opened gate, snapped out of it and sprinted towards to the passage way behind doors. Tuulentekija did his best to keep up with them, but he couldn't with his burned feet and so was left behind. "Perkele!" He cursed, when he sensed a sudden presence in his mind.

First Tuulentekija thought it was Edith, but then he realized that the voice was much, much weaker, like a whisper. And it sounded like...

Tuulentekija swung around and drew his sword. His eyes had spread wide open of fear and cold sweat was flowing down his back. The hall they had come from had become completely dark despite the magical pillars. The only source of light was his own, small lantern, but somehow Tuulentekija wasn't so confident that it could pierce the darkness that was aproaching.

Suddenly the lantern's light went out and Tuulentekija was left into total darkness. The whispering grew louder, but Tuulentekija couldn't sense any living creatures around him. Then, suddenly, the whispering stopped and the lights started returning to the great hall. Whatever that was, we just let it in Tuulentekija thought when he put his sword away and lit his lantern again. He heard sounds of fighting from the direction others had went, and started slowly stumbling that way...

Because of Synergy's comment, I feel compelled to also give a biological viewpoint to the issue: In nature, it's not too uncommon for female apes to make out with each other to catch the attention of males and turn them on. Maybe it's the same thing here, and being drunk just encourages the behavior.

For humans, I use normal finnish names like Pekka, Kari, Arto, Jouko, Irene, Liisa etc. For nun-humans, I use, well, imaginative names. Like the-One-Who-Ate-the-Furball, Herra Lisko, Mad Scale and so on...

The only intresting way to die is death due to an almost impossible chain of events that are completely unrelated to each other, and as I see it a monkey throwing coconuts to you has nothing to do with that.
