I think that Anaximander doesn't respond to certain events that seem significant. Don't expect too much out of him. Don't muck with the Stuff Done Flags, because no one knows which flags correspond to which events and you can seriously screw up your game with them. If you got into the Bunker and can see Erika, then it sounds like you're doing fine. Are you having any problems with anything? TM informed me that Photoshop makes BMPs that BoA doesn't like, but Preview can export them just fine, so I converted the graphics using Preview and they appear to work now. Thanks, TM. I sent the scen and fixed graphics out to five testers. Check your inboxes. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Yes, but mis-spelling it makes you look foolish. We had a discussion of this in a recent topic somewhere... oh, I don't care enough to find it. Suffice it to say that you should at least try to come close to the proper spelling. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I didn't talk to Berra (didn't realize I was supposed to) until after I'd finished the slimes, roaches, troglos, giants, and golems. That didn't turn out to be a problem, so I know that's not the issue here. As far as I can tell from the FAQ, you can visit Erika after investigating the New Formello murders, so that shouldn't be a problem. Also, all the evidence from Berra is only important to help you figure out who is causing the plagues (you get three choices, and the evidence from the golems provides you with the conclusion), so as long as you've figured it out anyway, the evidence doesn't matter. And figuring out who is responsible is only important as far as getting one weapon, which you don't need to use in order to finish the game. I didn't use it the first time I beat the game, and it doesn't make it too much harder. Anyway, nothing you've described sounds like a serious problem. Just keep going. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Dear god, Ayn Rand. I have heard fairly terrible things about her writing, and what little I've read has seemed arrogant, simple-minded, and illogical. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. It does work, but there are a handful of caveats. The damage done seems to depend on the damage received by the party member; that is, if a creature does 40 damage to me, I can't do more than 40 damage back to it.It only applies to melee combat. The damage done appears to be magic damage, meaning that if you're fighting a magic resistant creature, the damage will be reduced (although I'm not 100% sure of this). For reasons I can't entirely ascertain, the damage also varies wildly based on other statistics, possibly including the relative levels of the PCs and the monsters. But yes, I have gotten it to work with an excessively high amount of the ability (it_ability_str_1 = 100). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Second double-post in the same topic w00t! Okay, well, I sent out the second beta version to a somewhat larger group of testers. If you still haven't gotten it yet, hang on a little bit. I'm expecting that I'll do two more beta runs after this (with a version 3 and a version 4), and then I'll release it. I want at least a few fresh people each time. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. A couple more things: When a PC is next to a spot and you look at that spot, you search the spot. As far as I can tell, if the joined NPC is next to a spot, however, you don't search the spot. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just an intentional stupid thing. As far as I can tell, if you have two dialog choices via add_dialog_choice and the party clicks on the second one, run_dialog always returns 2, whether the call used to make the second choice read add_dialog_choice(1,"Choice 2") or add_dialog_choice(2,"Choice 3"). (The latter normally returns 3 when chosen.) I just discovered this, though, so I may be mistaken. Is this still going? If so... The call town_status always returns 0 (or possibly 1, I forget). The infamous enter-combat-end-combat bug: you can get placed in totally nonsensical locations. If you enter and then end combat immediately, you get placed one space forward. This allows you to skip special rectangles extremely easily. The call move_to_new_town can't be called from an INIT_STATE, a START_STATE, a creature script, or a terrain script, even if you distance the call from the state with set_state_continue, run_town_script, or run_scenario_script. This is exceedingly irritating in cut scenes. Beam projectors malfunction wildly in close quarters, next to walls, in varying heights, etc. I made a utility scenario to demonstrate a bunch of this, in case anyone wants to see it. I sent it to Jeff a while back, and I recently played it again with BoA v1.1.1, and sadly, it still demonstrates bugs just as effectively as it did before. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I was curious, so I checked the OED, and it appears that this etymology is wrong, but possibly not as wrong as one might think. The word "hymen" in reference to the vaginal part is from the god Hymen, obviously. The god Hymen is, in Latin, just "Hymen," from the Greek "Humên" (closest I could come to a macron :P ). The word "hymn" is "hymnus," from the Greek "humnos" (and since the Greek "U" gets turned into a Latin "Y" and the Greek -os suffix becomes a Latin -us suffix, it appears to be a direct transliteration). "Hymên" and "hymnos" are different enough that it's clear that the Greeks and Romans thought of them as very different words. However, the OED doesn't say whether they stem from the same Indo-European root, which seems possible. I don't know where to look this up, though. EDIT: The explanation is pretty funny, though. Is that what it's like to be in God's grace? Like being inside a fresh, new vagina? Okay, I am at a loss. I can't figure out how to convert the graphics from a Mac to a PC. I've made a bunch of .BMP files, and they are named G500.BMP and so forth, and they're 16-bit, like the docs say, and they're the right size because they're copied directly from graphics that work on a Mac, but they fail to work on my PC. Would someone be so kind as to convert the graphics for me, or at least suggest to me where I am going wrong? The ones I sent out were 32-bit, which is way too high, but I changed them to 16-bit, and they still don't work. Until I get the graphics fixed, PC users are just going to have to wait, I guess. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. As far as cultural vision, I think the Robot series does better than the Foundation series (both by Asimov and in the same universe, for those who don't know). I rather liked the Foundation universe's series. Robert Jordan needs to be told that his publisher will only release two more WoT books and that he'd damn well better wrap it up by then or else he's not getting another chance. WoT was good up through Book 6, but after that, RJ's been milking the series for all the cash it's worth. Book 9 seemed to be rushing towards a conclusion, and then Book 10 hit, and absolutely nothing happened. I have to hand it to him, though. He can write four books, with a total of, well, I don't want to count it, but more than two thousand pages, and have virtually nothing happen in them. He can stretch the events of ten pages into three hundred pages. I got into the series when Book 7 was new, so I admit that I feel a bit betrayed. I probably would feel the same way if I had gotten into Spiderweb games around the time of Exile 3. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
