In a perfect world, I would like for there to be a limit on inheritance. That is, not only should there be a progressive tax (take a percentage that is proportional to the size of the inheritance, so that for example an inheritance of $1,000 would only be taxed at 5%, but an inheritance of $1,000,000 would be taxed at 50%) but also a cap. After some point, say, $1,000,000 or something, that's the maximum that any individual can inherit from one estate. Never mind that this would spawn the division of estates between myriad people immediately prior to death and all sorts of tremendous corruption. In a perfect world, that's what I'd like. I'm not sure how that could really be accomplished, though. The operating theory I'm working with is, of course, that the playing field should not necessarily be exactly equal (because hey, maybe being rich should have a perk or two, just to make it desirable), but it should be far more equal than it is right now. Children should not be born obscenely wealthy, just reasonably so. EDIT: To this INTARWEB person: do you know any homeless people? Have you ever engaged in a serious dialogue with someone who grew up in a neighborhood that was what social workers like to call "underprivileged"? I get the feeling that you are speaking from a position of ignorance. Having beaten A3 is not really necessary. BoA is for anyone who wants to make/play third-party scenarios (or the four Jeff Vogel scenarios, but I think most people would agree that A3 is better than the JV scenarios, while most people would probably also agree that if BoE tells us anything, BoA will eventually have scenarios that blow A3 out of the water). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Okay, since I sent out the latest version of the beta on the 13th, I have received full reports from: Toast Timber-Wolf Thuryl Dastal Benjamin and partial reports from: Mako Simo Lehtinen TM Pascal I'm assuming that UA and dreamqueen didn't actually get the scenario, since gmail and hotmail rejected it. I have heard nothing this time around from: Sboto Eagle1 JStafford Zxquez Anyone who sent me a partial report or nothing, I'm working on fixing the last few bugs right now, and I'll probably do a final run-through on the new version on Friday (god willing). Send me whatever you've got as soon as possible, and if you do more testing by Thursday, send me any additional comments by then. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Oh, you know what would be neat, if you were re-making the user interface for the editor? Palettes, so that you could click on a terrain out of a terrain palette, a floor out of a floor palette, a monster out of a monster palette. Then each palette could be open at the same time and you could select everything with pictures, instead of long, gross menus. And then if you hold the mouse over each thing in each palette, the name of the thing would pop up in a little text box. That would be neat. Er, well, it's a thought, anyway. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Two features I would love to see: Copy/paste for objects (terrain scripts, monsters, items). I get sick of writing the same name into a terrain script, putting in the same numbers into the memory cells, etc.Small pictures of the items and creatures next to their names in the menus. Finding these things would be much easier with images than with just text. While this is noticeably off-topic (and off-forum), I might as well answer. There are two different editors involved in BoA. One is the Character Editor, which is much like the ones in the Avernum Trilogy. The other is the Scenario Editor, which allows people to create new scenarios — new games, essentially. These new scenarios can emulate new spells well and to some extent new skills, although those new spells and skills only apply to each scenario for which they are designed. A scenario can't really add new races (although one could kind of fake it) or genuinely add new spells and skills, though. It can add new items quite well. As a sidenote, and a personal plug, the HLPM is a scenario that allows you to edit some additional things in BoA that the Character Editor doesn't, like level and traits, and does a few other things besides. I happen to like each of the ones in the board header that are not the GameFAQ ones (Avernum Annotated Maps for A1, the Crystal Source for A2, and Rache's Site for A3). I don't actually know of others beyond the ones in the board header. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I'm not going to answer that, and I suggest that no one else answer it either. I want Faede to have to read the topic to find out. Since you are new, I'll explain: it's considered bad manners around here to revive a topic that has been idle for a while (say, more than a week or so) unless you have something significant to contribute. It's also considered bad manners around here to ask a question that has already been answered on the same page of the topic as your question or within the first few posts — the bare minimum that you might be expected to read. You did both of those at the same time. No harm done, but I hope that you learn from this. EDIT: Note that you may have to read between the lines somewhat in order to find your answer. Alexandria is pretty complete for BoE scenarios. For BoA, the SW tables have all scenarios but two: Canopy, available at TMU, and Death at Chapman's, available at Erik Westra's page. If there is a walkthrough for DM2, it would be at Gizmo's walkthroughs page, specifically here. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Open the scenario editor. Go to the File menu and choose Open. Select the Bahssikava .bas file, called slithhome.bas. Choose Edit Town and then Load New Town, and enter town 14. Go to Town Details in the Town menu. The wall 2 sheet box is on the left side. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Okay, fine, if you want to be strict about it, Wikipedia's entry has a pretty good explanation. A sampling: "Ockham's Razor is now usually stated as follows: Of two equivalent theories or explanations, all other things being equal, the simpler one is to be preferred." Given that Occam himself didn't write anything even particularly resembling the things that are ascribed to him as "Occam's Razor," I don't it matters much how it is stated. However, it is a principle, not a law, that reduces assumptions to what is strictly necessary. Thus, while I don't like the wording of your original post, I agree with the idea that you were trying to convey; at this point, I don't think it matters much. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
