Which one? There are three. The one in the northeast is the one most likely to get you into trouble, but basically all you have to do is destroy as many projectors as you can until you get to the mirrors gathered in the southwest. This puzzle was originally supposed to be much harder, but BoA's beam code is so buggy that it didn't end up working properly. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Oh, heck, I'll have the next version done by Thursday. Anyone who hasn't gotten the scen yet, you're probably going to get the next version (except for a few people that I'll hold in reserve in case I feel that I need to do yet another round after this next one). Everyone who has gotten the scenario, I'd like comments by the end of the day tomorrow if at all possible. EDIT: And if you haven't finished, send any comments you have on the parts that you have been through so far. That's right, the moment you've all been waiting for... :P But seriously, with the work I've been doing on Bahssikava, I decided to update the HLPM. You can get the new version at my web site (link in signature). The changes include: Updated the Library. It now includes all released scenarios through Xerch'de. I was a little unsure on the release date of some of them, so if anyone finds an error, be sure to let me know.Fixed the a bug that occurs when the party loads the Shopping Area more than once, so now, sadly, the shops can only be set up once per visit to the HLPM.Added a way to customize character traits beyond what is normally available.Dropped the damage done by the God Longsword, since often was over the maximum possible damage done and was getting set back to zero.I think that the third item on that list is really cool. The Character Editor will only let you have two advantages or disadvantages at once, and it doesn't let you change your characters' abilities (like Call Spirit or Regenerate) at all. I added a rune in the corner of the Shopping Area that allows you to have as many advantages or disadvantages as you want, and it allows you to edit your characters' abilities. This could be abused, obviously, but so could the entire rest of the HLPM. From the Blades of Avernum docs, Chapter 4.1 - Basics of Custom Graphics: "Figure out what number your sheet will be. Save your image as a bitmap with file name 'G[number].BMP'. (Example: For sheet 539, save the file at 'G539.BMP'). Copy the bitmap into your scenario folder. You’re done." You can see examples of this in every scenario released so far, including the ones that came with BoA. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:You are positively engorged on commas, sir. In other news, you are perhaps too new to know this, but people post topics about the deterioration of these boards on a fairly regular basis. In fact, between this and the collaboration request for BoA, I'm beginning to wonder when the next "Is BoE dead?" topic will show up. But anyway, unless these boards have deteriorating continuously since they first came into existence, someone people along the line must have just been imagining it. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. These, presumably, are a different breed of gremlins. After all, they look different from the gremlins in the Trilogy. They are apparently magic-users. But you'll run into this a lot in BoA, as m's avatar indicated. It's very easy to change the stats of default monsters or create monsters that resemble old ones but are different. Wait until you see the pseudo-alien beasts. :P -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. In other news, anyone know why Desp refuses to allow me to visit? It alternates between two error messages, one saying that the server could not be found and the other sayinig that it could not connect to the server. It's been a little over three years since the start of this particular incarnation of the SW boards, and from what I understand, almost four years since the start of the SW boards in general. And some of us have very high member numbers but also very high post counts. This is due to what I like to call "active participation," also known as "spam." :P [ Monday, January 10, 2005 08:48: Message edited by: Kelandon ] -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I'm trying to figure out how to make a PC attack himself, or at least how to simulate it. I talked with TM, and he had some good ideas, and then I went to put it into practice, and I realized I'd forgot something. Assassination, Anatomy, and Lethal Blow: I have no idea how these skills affect damage. I was wandering through Walker White's Advanced NPC, because he did some work with this, and he says that accuracy is determined by: Dex + Melee/Pole + Blademaster Percent chance to hit is 30 + 5 * (Accuracy - Total Defense), where Total Defense is presumably Defense + Gymnastics. I think I've established that pretty well, unless someone else knows otherwise. But damage has me stumped. I know that Strength, Melee/Pole, Blademaster, Anatomy, Assassination, and Lethal Blow play into it, but I don't know exact specifics. Does anyone know specifics or a way to estimate damage done? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I think it ought to go without saying that a nine-month-old topic based on a question from a community member who seems to have departed should be left alone. BoA dialogue is surprisingly bug-free, from what I've done so far. And while BoA has a fair number of bugs, it is certainly no worse than BoE, since it contains also a fair number of workarounds. Since GF3 is apparently entering beta, I think this thread has outlived its usefulness (assuming that it had any to begin with). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Yes, Khruschev uses the "kh" transliteration... for a chi. You're transliterating a rough breathing. That's an H. Hymen and Khymen would be two completely different Greek words, and Hymen is the god. I don't know if Khymen actually means anything, but it certainly isn't an appropriate transliteration of the god's name. EDIT: For those who don't know, I'm referring to specific Greek sounds. One is called a "rough breathing," which is a little apostrophe-like thing that appears over an initial vowel and is pronounced like an H. The other is a chi, which is written like an X and is a letter in Cyrillic as well (which is why a Soviet leader would have that letter in his name). Chi is pronounced like the "kh" that Dastal described, so it's sometimes transliterated "ch" and sometimes "kh." The Greek god's name has a rough breathing, not a chi, so it would properly be transliterated Hymen. I noticed an odd rule for the scenario design contest while I was reading the official rules, and I was wondering what everyone thinks about it. quote:Does he mean the uncompressed version or the compressed version? Both Canopy and Bahssikava are well over 3 MB uncompressed, and Canopy stuffs to about 2.4 MB... it's not inconceivable that someone could make a scenario that would compress to something over that limit. Either way, isn't this a kind of wacky rule? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Dastal, you just gave the same etymology that I did. Also, I've never seen anyone transliterate a rough breathing as "kh" before. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's a bad transliteration, because that's what people use for the X-like character, the chi or khi, instead of for a rough breathing.
