Or you can simply say that this new clan of vahnatai has a different culture from the others that have been known so far and make up your own mind about what they value and what they believe. It's in Bahssikava Tunnels in which your lead character becomes charmed. Charmed, not hostile. As for making your first character hostile, I have no idea how that could happen. There's not a single call in that entire town that deals with attitude, so it's not a scripting effect. I have to think that this is just BoA being weird. I suggest starting over. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! I think the most obvious example disproving the working hard = contribution to society = monetary reward myth is that of teachers. Most teachers work about as hard as anybody, and they individually touch the lives of hundreds or even thousands of young people, but they get paid next to nothing compared to some other professions. I'm not sure how a teacher is many times less valuable or hard-working than a corporate lawyer. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I suggested in the chat a "utility" category, not a "utility scenario" category. That includes Alint, the 3D Editor, etc. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! All because they choose to do that porn video instead of becoming the C.E.O. of a major corporation. Seriously, I don't think that many porn actors were going to be really high-paid, successful people anyway. It's not pornography that's at fault here; it's a much larger issue than that, one involving upward mobility. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Yeah, Alorael, but the difference is that a book isn't living. I think the reason that you can land on lava is the same reason that you can walk on it: it's not actually pools of molten lava. It's just ground with lots of lava around, so that landing indiscriminantly (or walking inexpertly, without Pathfinder) makes you brush up against some hot stuff. Or maybe get swept by the hot clouds of air that tend to billow by in a volcanic eruption. As far as how the engine works this way, I'm pretty sure that these characteristics are defined independently. I think the setup is more BoE than BoA, so I'm not sure how it works precisely. And some scenarios *cough* *LP* *hack* have already used the ice floor. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. And in any discussion of communism, it's worth pointing out that small-scale efforts do work (i.e. a kibbutz). It's just the large-scale Leninist-Stalinist-Maoist ones that fail spectacularly. I have heard that smaller, lesser-known communist countries (Yugoslavia) offered interesting different perspectives on the possible success and failure of the form of government. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. If you think that pornography is wrong because working in a degrading profession that one loathes is wrong, then I hope that you don't ever eat any fast food or anything that has been grown on a large farm. I hope that you basically never shop at department stores. I could go on. There are many kinds of degradation in this world that can be found in many kinds of professions. For that matter, there are lots of products that have been touched one way or another by humiliation and hatred. I've been told that Spiderweb's games run absolutely fine on emulators available to Linux users. Would there be any point at all in making them Linux-native, especially since Exile 3 reputedly runs better on an emulator in Linux than Linux-native? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. 1. It's important to make the first part able to stand alone, though. You have no idea if you're going to make that second, third, fourth part. Besides, other designers have had really bad experiences starting a series with their first scenario (Creator, for one/two). 2. These usually are lame, at least judging from what people have done in BoE. Not saying it can't be done well, but it's unusual. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Checking back in... Nicothodes iluvhorses Slith Lord Arachnid dareva PoD Person And anyone else who has posted with interest on this thread: where do you stand? Have you been able to get to work? Are there specific things about town design or scripting that you need help with? Are there any other plot points you're struggling on? Yeah, Thralni, I don't know what you mean either. The vowel tends to determine gender, but all the endings are pretty much the same. Er, and the same with conjugations — the personal endings are all the same for all tenses, which is more regular than Latin (or most other languages). I based the endings off various Indo-European endings, so there's a little Latin in there (-am feminine accusative singular), a little Greek (-oi masculine nominative plural), and a little bit of other things (-ani feminine instrumental plural from Polish -ami). And then a few are shifted to more slith-like sounds (-âkh feminine accusative plural from Latin âs). Classical Slith is the most regular form of the slith language. Archaic Slith (the preceding dialect) had a handful of irregularities that were crushed by standardization. Modern Slith introduces a number of irregularities due to sound changes. Classical Slith is sort of like Turkish in its regularity, from what I understand, and for much the same reasons (artificial interference from above). It actually isn't very hard to pronounce, once you get a good handle on what the sounds are. And that L problem is fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out. I've studied Latin, Greek, and Polish in college (and Spanish in high school), and linguistics is a bit of a hobby of mine. Reconstructed pronunciation in particular is one of my interests (since almost no one can really do Attic Greek justice in terms of pronunciation), so a lot of these terms were just floating around in the things I read. Of course, when I had to look things up, I always used Wikipedia's IPA page. To help clarify things for myself (and to serve as quick references), I made a couple of pages about the slith language. They can be found here. Check out the verbs page. I think it's pretty neat! :P Exodus is still coming along. I've made pretty incredible progress over the last couple of weeks — there are a handful of dungeons left to design, and then I have to go back and put in huge amounts of secondary dialogue. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Well, unless the language differentiates between two kinds of "g" sounds and doesn't have an "s" sound at all. quote:It was a bad joke. The suffix "-philia" (from the Greek) is often used in English for a love of something, and "ne" is one of the two Latin words for "no." I was just pointing out that "Nephilia" is probably not a good word. Also it kind of sounds like another word that is probably not good to bring to mind. In any case, if you re-download BoA, everything should be fine. BoA didn't move your save files, so unless you moved them, they should still be wherever they were before. Do a search on the name of a save file if you still can't find them.
