One of the weird things about the level caps is that they aren't always pure caps on what level your characters can achieve. I'm pretty sure that I hit a level cap in A1 or A2 by having my party's average level hit the level cap. This can be misleading when you're trying to figure out what the level cap actually is. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. By the way, does that display on most people's computers? I had to download a particular font to get Unicode Linear B to show up on my computer. For the minor mission, perhaps a simple fetch quest to the basement or something. Keep it inside the fort — you want the player to become familiar with the surroundings as being normal, so that when the surroundings mutate into something else, it feels horrifying, right? Sounds good, though. Time to start planning how to make it (what kind of layouts for the towns, names and personalities of characters, etc.). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I'm pretty sure the level cap in A1 and A2 was 50. I don't think I hit it except with my duos, though; a 4-person party won't quite get there without disadvantages. A3 didn't seem to have a level cap that I found. My 4-person party did every quest in the game and ended up somewhere in the mid-50's in levels. BoA doesn't have a level cap for PCs, whereas BoE's is 50, I believe. There are a couple more quests and encounters in Avernum (although not many). I have no idea about the items, though. And if you find yourself liking Exile, you can buy Blades of Exile (which has dozens of quality scenarios and hundreds of other scenarios), or if you like Avernum, you can buy Blades of Avernum (which has a handful of quality scenarios but offers a potentially more diverse playing experience). -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. My feeling is no and no. They're both magical creatures, and they both don't like humans, but for all we know, they might be Hostile Type B if they're put around demons who are Hostile Type A, so to speak. They seem like magical beings but not demons. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Yeah, I understood the "charming" plotline also, and it seemed fine. I don't know why there has to be much more to the scenario than that — they just figure out that they've been fighting for the wrong side, and then somehow they have to break the spell, and then they run home. That's plenty for a first scenario. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! It never hurts to remove a barrier (except in one well-documented case: don't dispel the barriers in Fort Emerald). If you can't remove a barrier, though, don't worry about it: it's not meant to be removed. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I've played A1 at least three or four times, A2 at least two or three times, and A3 once. I've played GF1 exactly once and GF2 exactly once. I'm not likely to play A4 again. For me — and this goes to show that "replay value" is a personal thing, not an absolute — the AT has more replay value. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I s'pose. I've been trying to compile a list of things that can cause an Unhandled Exception on the multifarious Bugs threads, and examining more cases can only help. EDIT: Uh, that's a yes, in case that wasn't clear. But again, I won't be able to do it until Sunday at the earliest, but more likely Monday. The SubTerra board's time is limited. Greater powers are at work making decisions that may rule the fate of the bottom of the boards regardless of the annexations made or fraternal assistances provided. I'm not sure that I completely understand what you're asking, but I'll give some information anyway, and if it isn't what you wanted, ask again. You can get the spell "Dispel Barrier" by completing a quest in the Tower of Magi. The quest involves fighting a demon. This thread is about that fight. With Dispel Barrier, you can dispel any barriers that need to be dispelled in the game. (You do not need to dispel all barriers, though.) -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:I'd bet there'd be plenty of participation. I have no idea how the legal side of this (signing away rights) works, but I'd bet that one could work it out without much trouble. We've had graphical artists adapt to the different formats of BoE and BoA, so I bet they could adapt to the Poser format (whatever that format is). Or, if you prefer, kill the pylons one-by-one by standing just inside your archery/spell range but outside the pylons' effect rang. Use ranged attacks, of course. I think you need a fighter to get up close to be a sacrificial lamb, too, so that they don't instantly re-heal. The set-up that I used was charge with one fighter, stand just barely out of the pylon's range with an archer and a mage (who did damage to the pylon) and heal the fighter with a priest. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Every time I've been able to reproduce a consistent Unhandled Exception, I've been able to solve it. It's hard reproducing them, though, because sometimes they just randomly happen. But if you can say, "I always get an Unhandled Exception when I turn this corner and see this monster" or something like that, I can probably solve it. I'll have access to a Windows machine with BoA on it on Sunday and following, though. If anyone has a save file that can consistently reproduce an Unhandled Exception in a scenario made by a Mac-using designer (who therefore can't reproduce the problem himself), I'd be willing to take a look at it. SoT: Didn't you also say that you haven't played any part of the ET or the AT? I think it makes a difference. A4 might have been good enough for me, too, if several previous games hadn't been so much better. Well, I take that back. It was good enough for me. I enjoyed playing it. The plot was not so bad that it ruined the cool things that Jeff did with combat. It just lacked the sparkle that A1, A2, Nethergate, and most of GF1 had for me, which made it less fun.
