Instead of fighting the local militia, you might have some tense questioning back and forth. A few dialog boxes would probably suffice to give the impression that there was some trouble brewing. I agree that making the thread actually appear on the ground would be difficult. You could just indicate it by message boxes: "From here, you can see that your thread turns north, which must be the way out!" Keeping it small and simple is good, especially for a first scenario. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Er, I didn't want to say anything, but I figured this would be the reaction you'd get. Yes, the Theseus dungeon-crawl model would serve you much better than a pure maze. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. TM, I think you're doing a good thing here. If there's any way I can help anyone, I'd like to. If there's a thing that someone wants to script but doesn't know how, I can toss in my two cents about how I'd do it. Have we set a day for this conference yet? Ought we? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Ephesos: In conclusion, yarr. It comes from "ballista" — a perfectly normal Latin word (of Greek origin, from the verb "to throw") — and the suffix -icus, which is a normal Latin suffix for forming words that mean "related to [x]." Presumably that -icus suffix is more or less equivalent to the English -ic suffix. I mean, the word would mean, "relating to ballistas," which is not quite as general as "ballistic" in English, which is why the first translation is preferable. If you've already used one, you can't use it again. So if the reason that your mage has a lower level than your priest is that your mage happened to be unconscious when you read the book, you're out of luck. If you happened to buy more Firebolt levels for your priest than for your mage, you can go back to anyone who sells the spell and buy another level for your mage. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:No, that tells you something! It tells you that they prefer nasals and liquids to vowels. It is possible to have a language that has few or no vowels if it allows nasals and liquids to take a full stress (whereas English only allows them to sit in unstressed positions, as in "apple" — properly /?p-l/ with no vowel in the second syllable, although some insert a schwa for ease of pronunciation). It also tells you that their language draws out its R's in sort of the way the sliths draw out their S's, which is worth considering for paradigms. Nephils might make a distinction between many kinds of R's, from the approximant to the trill to the tap (and Wikipedia's IPA page might be worth checking if you're not already an expert on phonology). You can get all sorts of ideas from the names. Don't ignore them! The nephilim come from the surface, according to the AT. I'd advise checking A1-3 in the places where one meets nephilim to see their names. That can give you hints about the sounds they like to pronounce, which can get you started on phonology. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
