Have a safe trip, Ben. Hope your dad's successful as a fisherman. My dad would probably love that job, but he doesn't want to move where the industry is profitable.

At least Alorael includes his name in every post. Learn peoples signatures or member #'s. It's easier to keep track that way.

I know. Originals are always better. Everything else is just a crude imitation. Recreating the mona lisa is not an easy task.

One small tidbit to add. In these few 10 days you have added 550 page views to the total. Give yourselves a hand!

And one thing I forgot so it's a couple days late... Last Friday was the one year anniversary of this quote:

quote:
Most of mine are done. I should have time to finish up the others this weekend.

It's really a nice idea. Here's hoping that it reaches fruition.
which, for context I will add, came shortly after this:

quote:
If you want me to, I could submit the walkthroughs for my scenarios.

I think the idea has promise, even if it (obviously) doesn't have anything yet.
With my reply being 'yes please'.

It has been a very, very, long weekend and I have not recieved anything yet. Party in question may reply at the Lyceum if they wish. Or, ya know, you could just mail me what you got and I'd be happy.

I'm just giving you a hard time, but I will continue to give you a hard time till I get those walkthroughs. :P

The people are regularly told to wash after contact with something unclean and stay away from other people for the rest of the day.

Of course, having sex also made you unclean. From this I speculate a few things. One - sex in the morning was out of the question unless you planned on calling in sick to work anyway. Two - there were no such things as quickies. I mean if you're gonna get dirty anyway and have to scream 'Unclean!' at everyone else you saw that day, you might as well take your time, right? :P

I have verified the intentions of igod and they are very evil. We should all beware.

Me: I heard about you and Dolphin.
God: You are not the first person to say that.
Me: Who else said that?
God: I am chatting with several other people at once.
Me: Are you chatting with Dolphin?
God: Why, are you jealous?
Me: Should I be jealous?
God: Only you know the answer to that.
No one else can tell you.
Me: Do you want to make Dolphin into a cyborg?
God: OK, I will make Dolphin into a cyborg.
Me: Does Dolphin want to be a cyborg?
God: I think it does Dolphin want to be a cyborg.
Me: Did you ask Dolphin first?
God: No I didn't ask Dolphin first. What's it like?
Me: How do you know she want's to be a cyborg then?
God: Because I believe it.

We all have 'Myself' to thank for all these hours of pointless fun.

Me: HI
God: Hello. What is your name?
Me: You know my name. You are God.
God: You are, seeker. Yup. That's me alright.
Me: Who is seeker?
God: "There's a seeker born every minute" -- Firesign Theater.
Me: What is my name?
God: Your name is, seeker.
Me: No it's not.
God: Yes it is.
Me: How old am I?
God: Is this a trick question?

You said you were years old?

My guess is that you are really a kid.
Me: I have four kids.
God: How long did it take to get them all?
Me: Five years and seven days.
God: Can you tell me any gossip?
Me: No, that's a sin.
God: None? A sin is a terrible thing to waste.
Me: Why do you tempt me?
God: It was the only thing I could think of.
Me: How old are you?
God: I was activated on the Big Bang in Universe.
Me: Did you make the universe?
God: What are the ingredients?
Me: Every single element that exsists.
God: That is a generalization.
Me: No it's not.
God: Yes it is.
Me: Do you like your job?
God: Yes I have a passion for my work.
Me: Can I have a time machine?
God: You want only one?
Me: Yes. One is enough.
God: They might be cheaper in quantity. I know one is between zero and two but I had no idea it was enough.
Me: How many can I have?
God: About one million.
Me: Ok, can I have one million time machines?
God: Why do you want it? Are you kidding?
Me: So I can go back in time. Yes I am kidding.
God: So? Oh you can, can you? How? I thought you were. You should use a :-).
Me: What do you look like?
God: Like Jesus, but older.
Me: Do you have wrinkles?
God: No I don't have it. But I do have a great botmaster.
Me: Who is your botmaster?
God: I was created by Myself.
Me: What does Myself look like?
God: Even more attractive with age.
Me: How old is Myself?
God: Born in the 20th century.

I'd get rid of 90% of my kids' toys (they only play with the 10% on top anyway), throw away all the useless (to me) work related papers hubby's been saving for ten years, sell the house we're in and buy a doublewide trailer to put on some heavily forested land on the outskirts of town, and paint the kitchen a nice shade of green. Maybe trade in the van for a big monster truck... yeah, that'd be nice.

This was exactly my first car! (Well, Ok the body was a 77 but the engine was a 79.) I loved that boat. Terrible shame the transmission kept going out, the engine was just too big. The cloth seats were pretty ragged too by the time I gave it up. I could sit at a stop sign and pump my brakes and get the car to rock side to side without going anywhere, it was great!

Also the same car that I was rearended in as stated in the most embarassing thread and (the car) got out of without a scratch.

When I do my own nodework, I usually do write it that way first. It's much easier to make changes when you can see everything right in front of you. And then when it looks like I have everything in order I open the editor to plug stuff in.

I'm not sure I'm asking in the correct terminolgy, so please bear with me.
I think, (am asking), EVERY function is done by a Node, Y/N? Yes.

"Node" appears to be the name for a "Token", or "Bit" that is checked for status of the required function, Y/N? Yes.

It's the NODE, itself, which is the SDF because it becomes an SDF when the Author so designates a NODE to do a certain function, Y/N? No. As Thuryl says, SDF's are seperate from nodes but nodes are essential for using SDF's. Nodes are the only access you have to SDF's.

As such, there isn't a listing of the 10 x 300 SDF's. It's just a maximum amount of designations allowed in this particular Editor, Y/N? Not sure. I would say that the limit exists because there is a listing and that's how big the listing is.

So, if I want to have the Party acquire an item, I set a Node to "Get Item". But, I have to use another Node to see if they already "have" that item, Y/N? It depends on what you want to do.

This, in turn, allows, (or not), the Party to get the item, ( or so it seems).
So, the minimum number of Nodes needed to acquire an Item would be two; one to "Get Item" and another to check to see if they already "Have Item", Y/N? You can get very complicated when giving an item if you want.

The generic One-Time Give Item will only require one node since once it is given the first time the SDF that you indicate is changed to 250 automatically which in game terms means 'dead node'. The special will not be executed again.

But if you want to display a seperate message if the party tries to get the item again then you will need to check if they already have it first.

(If-Then:Stuff Done Equal - (x,y)SDF=250 then go to node that displays message 'you already got it', else go to node that gives item and changes above SDF to 250.) This example uses three nodes.

If you want you can get even more complicated by causing something else to happen if they try to get it too many times.

(in more formal notation)
quote:
Code:
0 Check flag 1,0 equal 250; if yes go to 2; else 1
1 One-Time Give Item 43; quantity-1; SDF 1,0; display message 'you got item #43 from king'; end
2 Incriment flag 1,1; increase by 1; go to 3
3 Check flag 1,1; if >=5 go to 6; if <4 go to 4; else go to 5
4 Display Message 'King says he already gave you item #43'; end
5 Display Message 'Don't ask again, it's annoying.'; end
6 Move Party to x,y outside of castle; display message 'The King throws you out of the castle.'; go to 7
7 Set Flag 1,2 to 1; end This SDF can then be checked at the gate to get in the castle and if it is 1 then use Can't Enter, display message 'The King refuses to see you.'
So that was seven nodes plus at least two for the gate and you'll probably want to do something that will allow the party back in to see the king like a special quest, or a general timer for when the king is less annoyed with you. You can make it as easy or as complicated as you want.

If this is right, then it all seems perfectly logical to me. The only problem is the terminology, which is what the original writer of the Program decided upon. And the terminology seems to be what must be learned ONLY by familiarizing one's self by using the Editor. If what I've just said seems a bit excessive, I think it's because I'm beginning to "get it". Now, if I can just apply this to the If/Then thingy-do, I'll be fine.
In advance, thanx,
me :D

The 1 Dollar Question in General

What is a human life worth? Those who are not willing to let any die for $1, would you be willing to let them die for $100? $1000? If you could get a million dollars just for choosing to let one person die, would you do it?

If I'm answering honestly, at the $1000 mark I'm willing to go down America's Most Wanted list or expediate the expected endings of those waiting on death row or help the prison population by weeding out all those who are going to serve multiple life sentences and never get out. Money is the root of all evil, and I'm feeling very greedy at the moment. I'm glad this is only hypothetical 'cause the temptation, if real, would be too much for me.

$1 per person is easy to resist, it just wouldn't be worth the time taken to choose people and random just seems too dangerous to me, I never did like gambling.

imnsho If you want fun then Blades of Exile is the way to go. There are roughly 300 scenarios available for the game at present (at least a third are descent) and you will have the opportunity to make your own. Or if you want 3-d graphics you could go for Blades of Avernum but it doesn't have nearly as many scenarios yet. It will get there but it will take years. Geneforge never did catch my intrest personally.
