I prefer the unknown members. Those who remain uninvolved in some of the more disturbing events which have occurred in these forums. May those who are invisible always have the pleasure of remaining that way. It is dangerous to get pulled into this pit.

Trevor returns downstairs and proceeds to check the nearby listing of available jobs. One manages to catch his eye: Local Mage needed for Birthday Party. He mutters to himself, "This is so demeaning." He then heads off to the specified locale of the party.

The young mage comes back down the stairs and sees that the drunkard who threw the mug is now gone. He then notices a small pile of cookies on the counter. Trevor heads over to the counter and grabs a few of the tasty snacks. Alex notices the apprentice and decides to chat with him.

"So what brings you here to the Silvar Inn?"

"I'm just looking for somewhere to spend my time. I have trouble staying in one location for a long period, so I have to keep moving around."

"Perhaps you just need someone to assist you in controlling your abilities?"

"Of course not! I am the magnificent Trevor. Though appreciated, your efforts to assist me are not necessary. I am already a mage of great skill. Allow me to show you the powerful spell Kill."

The mage begins to cast the fatal spell; however, something goes wrong. A chicken appears in front of him. Embarrassed the mage walks back up to his room, tossing a few gold pieces onto the counter.

"It was wise of you to nullify his spell. I feared that he may have hurt someone," ef congratulated Alex.

"But I didn't do anything."

A young mage walks into the inn, his robes identify him as an apprentice. He proceeds to walk to the center of the chamber and shouts, "Never fear, the bold Trevor is here." However, his introduction does not go as well as he had intended; the room is completely silent.

Trevor musters the courage to shout out to the people again. "I said that the great and magnificent Trevor is here. I am a mage of great--." Before he has a chance to finish a large mug strikes him on the head and knocks him unconcious. A few others carry him upstairs and lock him in a room.

Vaitar-ka stands amazed at the strange creature they have stumbled upon. Even in the various experiments attempted by Rentar he has never seen such a beast. Noticing SW in trouble the vahnatai instinctively began casting a spell. As the flames of the massive fireball surged forward it was caught in an invisible barrier of wind. The flaming sphere was spun around several times and then flung back at the mage.

Though Vaitar managed to dodge the returning missle, it was clear that such spells would be useless in attacking the wind beast. Instead of focusing his energies on attacking, he concentrated them on supporting his allies. As the tentacles reached out again he used carefully placed ice spells to cause them to draw back. However, he could only keep it up for so long.

Vaitar, knowing that he could not return to his own people, agreed to travel with the adventurers. He felt that he had owed this Shadow Wolf a great debt for saving his life. The young vahnatai knew that he could not leave this man until he repayed the deed. Suddenly the nearby dragon bellowed, "So tell us, what is the fastest way to reach Rentar-Ihrno."

"I wish I could help you; however, I am also walking through these caves blindly. I awoke from my resting at the fort back there only moments before you attacked."

"Your language is quite strong for a vahnatai."

"I know several languages. When one lives for a few centuries you have time to stop and learn the complex things."

"Shall we continue?" Inquired SW.

"Yes, but let us be cautious. I do not know how many other groups my master--I mean Rentar has sent for you."

Disturbed by this recent turn of events, Vaitar prepares to make his escape. He inscribes several runes on a nearby cavewall. As the script is completed the wall glows with an odd green aura. However, as he draws closer the runes suddenly become dead and fade away, the effect of a dispel magic casting.

Drained, the young mage had nothing else he could do. He sat atop the cliff and continued thinking of ways in which to stall the travellers. He had magic spells, but aside from a minor summoning there wasn't much he could do to stall them. He then remembered a small box given to him along with the tome.

As he pulled out the crystal cube he noticed something inscribed on the surface: Use only in an emergency. This situation seemed to call for such a use so he took out the small jewel inside. It was a rare Phoenix Egg. Knowing that there was nothing else he could do Vaitar-ka threw the red gem down into the battle.

When it struck the ground it shattered and released the fiery inferno from within. The flames quickly began to spread through the caves. They even climbed upward towards the cliff which held the vahnatai. He sat and awaited his death. There was nothing more he could do.

OOC: Can't seem to slow you down, but this should hasten you along your way. :P

Vaitar-ka, having barely escaped from the failed ambushed sits amused watching the creatures play around with the adventureres as he tends to his own wounds. Then the familiar booming voice enters his mind.

'If you had done what I asked of you my creations would not need to be so needlessly slaugthered.'

'Rentar, I am not the one to blame. It was that foolish blade--'

'I DON'T CARE WHO IS TO BLAME! JUST FIX IT NOW!'
With that the voice left his mind. Filled with terror the young vahnatai mage began thinking of ways in which he could slow the adventurers down. He once more looked down at the battle. Sure enough, the strange nephilim beasts were not going to be the winners. Already half of their number had been felled.

However, he had also noticed that though they were being defeated, the creatures were still quite skilled warriors. Enough of them could cause the party to flee. Thus he decided to create a few more. Vaitar-ka concentrated on the image of the beasts and created several illusions of the creatures. They charged into battle. He then returned to tending his wounds.

The once liquid elemental becomes a solid block of ice. Then a razordisk bounces off a nearby stalagmite into the creature. The block of ice shatters from the blow. Unfortunately for the vahnatai, Shadow Wolf was able to determine the source of the projectile. He jumped through the air and stabbed downward at the lone warrior. His blow was swift and killed the vahnatai instantly. However, now they had him exactly where they wanted him.
Instantly Seven other warriors proceed to come out of their separate places. Each with a razordisk in hand waiting to send it straight into separate targets of the party. The blademaster had his waveblade to Shadow Wolf's neck. Then Vaitar-ka came out from hiding. He spoke in his quiet vahnatai voice. "It seems that our plan has worked blademaster. Rentar would be proud."

"Prepare the restraints quickly. From what I have heard this one is quite the skilled fighter. I don't want to risk him getting loose."
The blademaster then begins removing Shadow Wolf's possessions. Among them he finds a boomerang, something completely unfamiliar to a vahnatai. "What is this device?"

Shadow Wolf answered the question calmly, "It is rather simple, you throw it and it comes back. I could give you a demonstration if you like."

"That is quite unnecessary, I'm sure I can handle it myself." The blademaster throws the device into the cave. After a few moments it comes flying back out of the entrance; however, something is following it.

"You idiot," Vaitar shouts, "You have set off the runes!" Several bolts of energy fly toward the unsuspecting group.

As Sullust finishes preparing he is finally aware of where he has been taken. The garrison was just a small part of the barracks of the capital. He has been brought here to lead the massive army of the city. But against what? He walks out onto a balcony and looks off into the night. He can see nothing in the distance but the rolling land. The wizard walks out next to him.

Wizard: The darkness is decieving. In the midst of Lewis's deception there has been too much chaos. I am sure that your old friends have taken advantage of this. I have tried to unite the people, but it is difficult. You shall serve as a martyr for my cause.

Sullust: You never told me your name.

Wizard: If you must know, I am Zaphos. Now that we have made our familiarities, are you ready for the battle at hand?

Sullust: I am prepared for what I must do. The battle is another matter altogether.

Zaphos: Just remember you will do what you are told.

Suddenly the black rune on Sullust's face begins to glow. A piercing feeling of pain shudders through his head. It is almost too much for him to bear. He falls to his knees.

Sullust: You shall recieve what you desire so much.

Zaphos: Head to the underground tunnels. You'll find my private army there. They will be the soldiers that you will lead into battle. I will give you the signal when your forces are required. Good night.

Zaphos walks off into the distance. As Sullust heads down towards the tunnels he notices a shuriken flying into a nearby guard. He ignores the dead man and continues walking towards his destination.

Though hidden well, Sullust does his best to attract the attention of a small militia passing by his location. His efforts go unnoticed and they continue along their way. This continues on several times until finally one group stops. One man walks up to the tree where Sullust has been placed and begins to excrete his fluids. He looks up from his 'business' and happens to catch sight of Sullust. In a few hours a group of mages arrive and contain him. He is taken to a nearby garrison.
After a few hours of being heavily enchanted with containment spells he is removed from the energy net that he was contained in. In order to do so several of the mages are almost completely drained of energy. Then the questioning begins, not with a simple interrogation though. His mind is wracked by powerful spells which rip the knowledge from his mind. A nearby wizard grins with approval.

Wizard: We may be able to assist you in your revenge; however, there will be a cost.

Sullust: Why would I require your help?

Wizard: As you well know we have sealed your magic. Without our skills it will remain that way. I only ask that you listen to my request.

Sullust: You have my attention.

Wizard: We have seen the skills which allowed the soldiers of your allies to remain relatively unharmed. We wish to exploit those magical talents for use in our own army.

Sullust: It is extremely draining. I would be unable to achieve my own objective if I assisted your troops in such a manner.

Wizard: We do not require you to cast the spell. In fact, I had something different in mind altogether--Open the curtains.

A wall of curtains shifts open to reveal a small floating disc. Several small crystals are imbedded around the perimeter of the circle. They seem dull and lifeless.

Wizard: That will provide you with all the energy you need. Each crystal is connected magically to a mage. They will be providing you with their spell energies from deep within a hidden bunker. You must be careful not to over exert your magical strengths though. If you attempt to pull to much energy through them, the crystals will shatter. This will kill the mage as well. Please be careful. If you are not, I shall kill you myself.

The wizard snaps his fingers and a large black rune appears on the side of Sullusts face. The magical constraints are then lifted from Sullust.

Wizard: Follow my aide, he will assist you in making the various preparations for battle. Now don't do anything stupid.

After the three have gone beyond sight, Sullust removes a small restoration potion from his pocket. Through much effort he manages to bring it to his mouth and drink it. Most of the effects of FD's spell fade away; the few remaining will disappear with time. However, Sullust is still caught in the net. His powers are still unusable and no matter how much he tries he cannot break through the mesh of energy.

OOC: Sullust can remain trapped, but I can't have him completely dumbfounded.

Sullust wakes up inside of the inn. Though a bit confused, he realizes where he is. He notices two guards outside of his door. Using his powers he knocks their heads together; both fall down. LF, overhearing the commotion, runs up the stairs to the room.

LF: Sullust, don't make me do this.

Sullust: I was forced to do this!

Sullust slams LF backwards into a wall. LF regains his composure after a few moments; however, Sullust has already taken advantage of the lost time. The air around him snaps and a portal is created. Sullust walks through.
Once more he finds himself inside Coronis.

FD: Sullust, what are you doing back here?

Sullust: I have come for revenge.

FD: Good, we could use your help.

Sullust: I don't think you understand. I shall show you.

Sullust makes a few movements with his hand and the earth beneath him begins to quake. He hovers above the ground as a massive crack forms in the crust. Though several of the cloaked warriors are lost, most of them manage to avoid falling into the rift. Thanks to the assistance of Maestro and Wiseman, FD also manages to avoid the hole.

OOC: The portal that Sullust created will remain open until he dies.

As the three vahnatai manage to reassert themselves, Vaitar-ka casts a stealth spell in order to hide himself. The three warriors then proceed to distract the group of adventurers. They are easily handled by the sword skills of SW and FD. Luckily, this allows Vaitar to make his escape out of the cave to the rest of the small vahnatai militia.

OOC: Stop talking about it already and write something that adds to the topic(not your post count!).

IC:
The blademaster seems concerned as he begins to speak to Vaitar-ka. "Rentar had wanted to collect them alive. Do you think they would be foolish enough to actually battle the Drake Lord?"

The mage responded quietly, "It appears my friend that they may have chosen such a path. Lend me a few of these warriors and I shall fetch them for you."

Those words incite the powerful vahnatai warrior, "What?! You wish to send more to the slaughter of that beast. I will play no such part in it.

Again, with a quiet voice, "Imagine what Rentar will do with us if we don't capture them alive."

"Very well then. You may take three of the warriors, no more. We will be ready in case they make it out ahead of you."

Vaitar-ka descends into the dark tunnel; the warriors follow closely behind.

Sullust, still amazed that his powers have been chained, attempts even more forcefully to take control of the field of energy. However, his energy is not strong enough to break the binding spell.

Sullust: Archmage, this game is over. Release my powers!

Alex: Not quite yet, I have yet to achieve me goal. Besides, I have no guarantee that you won't use it against me once I free you.

Sullust: I am not some instrument through which you can cast spells!

Sullust begins to glow the same pale blue aura as before. It quickly fades as the energy he generates is eaten away by the binding spell. Sullust faints from the strain. As he does so the field which he created also disappears.

Alex: You fool! A few have retreated but it isn't enough for our armies to fight them off. Get up!

ef: What have you done to Sullust?!

Alex: He did it to himself. I was merely trying to use his spell to our advantage.

ef: Either way, this does not bode well for our escape. They may be able to catch up to us more quickly now. Let us make haste from here!
