Vaitar-ka having rested himself thoroughly reports to the blademaster of the small militia. "It seems they are taking quite a while to progress through these caves."

"You are right, I had anticipated that they would come screaming out by now. The Drake Lord must be playing with them. However, it only gives us more time to prepare."

"What would you like me to do?"

"For now, nothing. I am having my men search for various strategic locations around this exit. I hope that we will be able to lure them into a trap."

One of the nearby soldiers stumbles on a small cave tree. The brances snap. "You idiot!" Shouts the blademaster, "They'll be expecting us if you leave these marks for them to find. Dig it up!"

Thus it goes.

Suddenly Sullust feels his own field shifting. He attempts to fix this; however, his magic has somehow been blocked. He then feels the presence of several other mages working together.

Sullust: No! This is not what I had intended!

Sullust returns to his post and speaks with ef.

Sullust: I have decided that it is my duty to try and save as many lives as possible. If I must end a few in order to do so then so be it.

ef: It is good to be fighting along side you once more Sullust.

Sullust: I fight for no one.

Sullust snaps his finger and instantly the front lines of both armies are forced backwards by an abundance of magical energy. Another shift of his hands an a small crack appears in the ground between the two forces.

Sullust: Anyone who crosses that line will be dealt with.

An arrow flies from the one of the archers on the friendly side. Sullust immediatley grabs it with his mind and sends it back into the arm of the archer.

Sullust: This conflict is over!

A dark presence enters his mind.
It is far from over, but you may have this battle.

A large pile of rubble stands in front of the small vahnatai scouting party. Vaitar-ka was extremely drained after casting so many spells.

"Very good," the blademaster spoke, "that was the last of the tunnels. Now we'll have them right where we want them."

Vaitar responded to these words, "I'm not sure if I have enough energy to assist you in the battle. I'll do my best, but I can make no guarantees. These rituals are very taxing."

"Do not worry. Because of our diversion they must past through the hydra tunnels first. The drake lord there doesn't like visitors very much. By the time we encounter them they will be too weak to put up much of a struggle."

Vaitar-ka manages to navigate through the maze of tunnels to a secluded vahnatai outpost. He meets with the blademaster there and discusses plans for thwarting the expedition of the adventurers.

"It is imperative that we give Rentar enough time to find a permanent solution. In order to do this we must slow the progress of these trouble-makers."

"Indeed. I have already been contacted by our master and I have prepared various plans. Choose whichever meets your desire."

The blademaster pulls out various scrolls and hands them all to the young mage. After briefly examining them all he proceeds to further discuss the chosen plan.

"I believe this plan will work well. However, I am a bit confused as to how we will cause the necessary tunnels to collapse."

"Rentar has given her assistance on this task. She has sent an envoy with a spell book. I was specifically instructed to give it to you if you should require it."

"Then I will begin studying the tome. Prepare your soldiers, we will set out shortly."

OOC: I'm still in this, I just don't have time to post as often as the rest. Now onto other things. It wouldn't make sense for BOB to turn a complete stranger into cheese. However, I must also point out, that there are no Avernite soldiers as of yet.

IC:
Watching the carnage unfold before him, Vaitar-ka makes his preparations to flee the town. He could not believe his eyes when he saw the blademaster slaughtered. However, this was not the time for stalling. As he walked out of the small crystal hut that had been his home he encountered one of the strange warriors.

"Where do you think your going?" the intimidating warrior inquires. Vaitar attempts to cast a spell to thwart the beast; but, to his surprise the magic is warped into a cave slime. While it isn't what he had planned, it is enough of a distraction to allow him to escape. As he flees he overhears a conversation between two of the strange people.

"Hey Shadow Wolf, do you think we should chase him down?"

"No, he is only a mage. Besides, with the Esper gone we'll have to figure out how to fix this mess we're in."

Finally far enough away to remain undetected he allows his thoughts to wander so that he may communicate with his master. She hears his calls.

What is it you require of me?

Master, they have breeched our defenses. One of them was able to create some type of magical distortion field. Another killed the blademaster.

They are stronger than I had anticipated. This will require more planning. You must hinder their progress in some way. You have your orders, now go!

Yes Rentar.

Now he set his mind to figuring out a way to slow the travelers. Certainly he alone couldn't stop them by battle; but then how?

Sullust wakes up inside of one of the jail cells in the town. Two burly gaurds stand watching over him.

"What happened? Why am I in here?" He inquired. The guards didn't respond. Instead they ran off to join in the fighting nearby.

"Let me out!" Without further warning Sullust tapped into his powers and bent the bars which held him in the room. It was then that he remembered what he had done. Sullust fell to the floor crying. Suddenly ef rushes into the room.

"Sullust, we need--are you alright?"

"I cannot fight anymore. I slaughtered them as if they were nothing. They unknowingly walked to their own deaths.

"It is impossible to change the past. You must accept what has happened and heal. Quickly, we need you."

"No..."

"What?"

"I said no. Leave me be!"

"Fine." ef storms out of the room and heads back towards the battle. Sullust remains inside the cell contemplating his next move.

As Sullust uses his powers to shield the soldiers from harm, ef commands them. They are fairing well; but the battle is slowly turning.

Sullust: We are losing our strength against them. Their numbers are too strong for us.

ef: If we can hold them a bit longer we'll have completed the mission.

Suddenly one of the enemy units manages to breech the wall. He runs up to Sullust and strikes him hard. Shortly after, another soldier kills him; however, the damage has been done.

ef: Sullust, are you alright?!

The damage which was once being deflected from the troops is now dealing serious damage to their defensive lines. The wall which once stood firm against them is beginning to tremble under the stress. Then it happens.

ef: Sullust what is wrong?!

Sullust hovers slightly above the ground with the same pale blue aura he was showered in before. As if gears in a machine, the first line of enemy soldiers follow in a fluid motion. Their swords are drawn into the air by their own hands and thrust into themselves. It is a horrible sight.

ef: Stop this Sullust!

Several others fall in the same motion until ef finally knocks Sullust unconcious. A few soldiers carry him off as ef continues her duties.

As Hssskor charges into the vahnatai fort a single mage prepares a lethal spell to cast at him. Esper quickly notices and warps itself forward in an attempt to stop the spell. Just as the incantation is about to strike the young mage the glowing orb of light enters its path. The magic completely destroys Esper. Shadow Wolf manages to run up fast enough and pull the slith back out of the fray.

"See what your foolishness has done!" He scolded the youth.

OOC: I might create another character; we'll see.

Maybe he delivers newspapers. In which case he could still be quite young, be losing money on little bets with his friend i.e. 'I bet you a dollar he can't...', and have a childhood girlfriend.

The familiar glowing orb materializes nearby.

I apologize for being gone for such an extended period of time. I had to return to my own plane to learn more information. Things have become more drastic than I had previously thought.

"What is this bad news you bring us?" Inquired Shadow Wolf.

The rift which was created by Rentar is weakening. If we do not hurry to undo what she has done you may be unable to return to your own time.

"Then let us proceed with haste through these caverns," Re'kar replied.

OOC: The esper my character represents is not the same as that from the Final Fantasy series. I was having a lacking moment in creativity. At the moment the only purpose the glowing orb of light serves is to close the rift and to teach the other adventurers how to stop Rentar from casting the spell again. However, I do appreciate your creativity TM.

At the moment Zephyr, you are the one dealing serious damage to the plot.

The sphere slowly rises back to its previous brightness. The vahnatai which they had been heading toward, has run of into the distance.

Claymore speaks with excitement, "let us go find my swords."

It will be quite impossible for us to attempt to kill Rentar. That will not fix our problems at all.

"What do you mean?"

This is the past; if you kill Rentar here she will not exist in our future. If she does not exist then, she will not create the rift which sent us here in the first place. Thus we will have never killed here at all.

"Then what stops her from simply doing this over again as soon as we return!"

Before we return to 'normal time' I shall teach the others of this realm a binding spell. When they return, they need to cast it on Rentar and she will no longer have this massive power.

"I still wish to acquire my swords."

So be it. I cannot fight Rentar in any method, nor do I have the capability to defend myself from her. I do not trust you to do this for me as I am unable to read your thoughts for some reason. Therefore I entrust myself to this dragon. Where he goes I will follow.

"As you wish." Claymore ends the conversation.

The glowing orb dims itself so that it will remain undetected while the group approaches the vahnatai. It is still slightly lit; however, it looks more like a cloud of smoke now.

Is that creature to be trusted?

"How is it you were able to trust me so well without having met me before?" Motrax replied.

I have the capability to glimpse into the minds of other beings. If I had felt that you intended to do me harm I would have found another to assist me on this quest. At the moment I am not close enough to read his mind.

"But how could you know before you even got close to me?"

My people are scholars. We do not spend our time fighting, but rather learning about the other planes. Your name came up while I was searching this realm. Enough talk, let us continue onward.

Suddenly a brilliant flash of light appeared next to Motrax. A floating orb of electricity appeared next to him. While it could not communicate directly to him, it spoke through his mind.

Who has done this?!

"Done what?" Motrax replied.

There has been some sort of temporal shift. That is how I came into creation. I must know who is responsible.

"I am sorry, however, I must know more if I am to assist you."

I am an Esper, created from the energy lost through the temporal rift that was created. I shall exist until the rift is closed. You may refer to me as Esper.

"If that is what you wish, however, I am still confused about your creation. How is it that you were summoned?"

You are unfamiliar with Espers because they are of another magical plane. That is all you will need to know, tell me who is responsible for this!

"A powerful vahnatai sorceress known as Rentar-Ihrno. You realize that you have no chance of stoping her alone."

I am well aware of that fact. While I am immune to physical attacks a single magical spell could have a devastating effect on me. My single purpose in this plane is to close the rift that has been created. Bring me to this Rentar safely and I can assure you a safe travel back to your own time.

"So it is agreed then."

The small sphere of light follows Motrax.

Sullust finally managed to get out of the temple with his own two feet. He walked outside and winced in the brightness of the sun. He notices ef waiting outside the temple.

Sullust: Thankyou.

ef: You have nothing that you must thank me for. However, I appreciate it.

Sullust walks a few more steps and falls toward the ground. Luckily Wiseman manages to run over and catch him before he makes contact.

Sullust: I guess I'll have to learn how to do this all over again.

Wiseman: I'm sure you'll have it down in no time. It is good to see that you are well again Sullust.

Sullust: It is good to be well again. However, the time I spent in my illness was a learning experience. While ef was in my mind I felt something open, it feels that I have increased my abilities a bit.

Wiseman: How so?

Sullust: I am not aware yet. I don't know if I am ready to find out.

Unfortunately I must admit that my proof is flawed.

Lim (n->infinity) (Money)^1/n =1

Because Money is a finite quantity, no matter what Bill Gates seems to think.

Since Saunders isn't member #1 I can't call her evil. However, Spidweb is #1, I wonder what this means...

Also here is the definition of evil. I hope this doesn't get me banned.

Evil: 1. a) morally bad or wrong; wicked; depraved b) resulting from or based on conduct regarded as immoral 2. causing pain or trouble; harmful; injurious 3. offensive or disgusting 4. threatening or bringing misfortune; unlucky; disastrous; unfortunate.

Note: Those are only the adjective definitions.

This information came from Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language: Second College Edition.
