What about virtual memory? (do they have that on PCs?) On macs, sometimes the OS uses disk space as RAM, which results in less disk space being available for files. That may or may not be the problem here; I'm not sure if Windows does the same thing or, if it does, whether that would be reflected in the available space.

My guess for 2 is Ash. It looks like it could be a radio operator or something.

I myself have registered every single one of the games whose full versions I have enjoyed, but the pirates seem to be marginalized. Does "registered" mean "payed money for" or does it mean "played the full version?"

I would like to add my agreement that virtually all games that are crackable have been cracked. I also agree with the idea that people who obtain copies illegally would not buy the games were the illegal copies unavailable.

That reminds me of the two goblins in Erika's Tower. They had a similar logic puzzle, but it was impossible to determine which door to take. All you had to do was slaughter them and take the secret passage they were sitting on.

Well, it was actually the Connecticut Supreme Court. Luckily it doesn't apply to the rest of the country, and several states' Supreme Courts have ruled against eminent domain. Unluckily for me, the New York Supreme Court has upheld it. The New York Times Magazine had a brief interview with Bruce Ratner this weekend. Ratner is using eminent domain to seize land in Brooklyn for a new Nets Stadium; many people are losing their homes and businesses. Apparently the New York Times doesn't like him very much either — their questions for him were on the verge of mockery.

And yes, I do feel better after letting all that hatred out. Thanks for asking! That reminds me—letting out steam on this forum is cheaper than visiting a psychotherapist. That's one reason why I have money to spend on shareware games and don't have to resort to piracy.

Well yes, I figured you were, and answered in kind. Thanks for getting the joke. :)

Two envelopes paradox in General

Well the "unexpected" part really refers to the fact that the prisoner can't PROVE when his execution will occur. I think Icshi was onto this: the prisoner tries to deduce when he will be killed and arrives at a contradiction. He can guess all he wants, but he can't really infer anything from the contradiction other than that he really has no idea what's going on. If the prisoner, instead of deducing that he couldn't be killed, guessed he'd be executed on day 4, would the sentence have been correctly carried out?

I think we had a discussion a while ago of Newcomb's Paradox, but it might have been lost in one of the purges. I'll leave it to SoT to explain since he's having so much fun with all this stuff.

Further to the lower left than when I last took it. I predict this to be slightly lower and to the left than the average Spiderwebber's score, which will probably still be in the third quadrant.

Yet another instance of the Prisoner's Dilemma. Say what you like, answer the poll how you like, everyone will vote for themselves anyway unless there's a rule against it. You're only deluding yourself if you think they won't.

Mac or PC? If PC, there's not much I can help you with. I also doubt anyone else on these forums will be able to help you either. That's kinda obscure stuff you're asking about.

Why do you need to compile assembly? Generally compilers will be able to come up with faster and more efficient stuff than any programmer.

If you are controlable than they will just take you to a cubical and make you write a paper on why your there.

What kind of person would attend this school in the first place? Not to sound insensitive, but it seems as though someone who would tell off a teacher and be uncontrollable needs discipline. Agreed, violence is crossing the line, but why not just behave oneself and avoid all the trouble?

I've used it once or twice before. The thing is, not everyone who thinks they're using it is actually using it (to be demonstrated).

-wz. arsenic, who is NOT using Alorael's signature; to do that, he would have to precede his name with an em-dash rather than with a hyphen.
