SoT is dead right, especially where hard liquor is concerned. From my own experience, I've found that the buzz from drinking beer occurs in almost equal increments with each beer consumed, while the buzz from consuming hard liquor tends to hit all at once. I can feel the slight effect a single beer has on me, but feel nothing after a single shot of vodka, whiskey, rum, or whatever. Most of the parties I've attended offered only kegs of beer, and I've always managed to limit my consumption at these parties to a level at which I am still quite capable of walking about, getting home, drinking several cups of water, and clambering into my top bunk. At the parties which offered liquor, however, the story has been rather different on occasion. Jungle Juice, a blend of everclear (190 proof stuff), kool-aid and water, has in particular been my bane on several occasions. As the stuff is mixed up by the hosts in an unknown proportion, and sweetened up extensively with the kool-aid, it becomes damn near impossible to tell how much you've had after a while. I'd advise all of you to religiously avoid drinking Jungle Juice at parties at which it is offered. Stick with beer, or have liquor by the shot (keeping tally of each shot) and you'll have a much safer, and better night. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. Here (UK) it's: 16 for sex and smoking (and driving a small tractor :P ), 17 for driving, 18 for everything else eg. drinking, voting, etc. Drinking is a bit hazy though because you can buy drinks with a meal at 16 and parents can give 5+ children drinks if they want, iirc. I'm 17. I need to learn to drive. -------------------- ørangutan Posts: 316 | Registered: Saturday, May 25 2002 07:00 |

I've found that, no matter what I'm drinking, the safest thing to do (aside from not drinking at all) is to drink slowly. When you start chugging, knocking down shots, etc., things can get very bad, very fast - before you know it. Also, never drink champagne out of a solo cup. Happy birthday to both of you. Have a cake, but make sure you share it. I don't want to slave away in the kitchen to make another one. :P EDIT: No, its not working. I gues I'll have it all to myself. :) [ Sunday, June 05, 2005 00:16: Message edited by: SprungSpring ] -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step.
