Political Compass Test

I figured it was about time for another run-through of this. It's been a while since the last one, and with mod elections coming soon, it's important to know where everyone stands.

If you've taken the test before, please take it again. I know my results change somewhat every time I take the test.

My new results:
Economic Left/Right: -6.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.28

Further to the lower left than when I last took it. I predict this to be slightly lower and to the left than the average Spiderwebber's score, which will probably still be in the third quadrant.

Though I must admit I answered the beginning questions with a little more reserve. I'd say I'm actually a bit further in both ("negative") directions.

Economic -2.88, social -3.64.

Among normal people this makes me some kind of pinko-wacko. Among academics, and apparently also on Spiderweb, this makes me Attilla the Hun. So I get to be everything; ha!

Similar to earlier results: socially moderate, economically liberal.

Economic Left/Right: -4.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.92

By the way, the compass mislabels their vertical axes. They call it authoritarian/liberatarin, while most of the questions deal with how socially conservative the respondents are. For example, while social conservative frequently support more governmental regulation, so do some social liberals. (for example, racial quotas in hiring and school admissions)

What I got before, roughly:

Social -8, Econ -6

I'm sure it's still accurate.

I think that there are some serious problems with that test. First of all, some of the questions don't really have a place in a political test. Sure, one posistion may be common in certain types of governments, but it could either be a coincidence, or they may just be using it as an excuse in order to take power for thier real main objectives, but the position itself doesn't indicate a direction on that scale. I also am confused by some of the question which seem to contain two different statements (likely with a "but" between), where I find myself agreeing with one part but disagreeing with another.

In general, questions phrased like that are designed with the expectation that you'll answer "Disagree" unless you agree with the whole statement. The FAQ explains this.

But which of the two parts you disagree with will determine weather it goes to the left or right.

What you have to remember is that the questions aren't meant to be "questions" in the strictest sense. They're leading statements. You're meant to feel as if some of them are trying to manipulate you into giving the answer they want -- and when you feel that way, you disagree.
