I'll wait for someone with a clearer knowledge of the facts to confirm this, but... The Partial Birth Abortion is a medical procedure used primarily to ensure the safety of the mother. AFAIK, it is NOT used as an alternative to traditional abortion techniques that get rid of the baby by the end of the first trimester. I'm pretty sure that it is only used to safeguard the well-being of the mother, when other alternatives are not available. If the PBA were not allowed, there could be cases where the mother would die because the PBA was not performed. Also in response to Overwhelming: People have to recognize that abortions are going to be performed, regardless of legality. In the end, it comes down to this: if abortions are illegal, women will be getting unsafe non-professional abortions that put their lives at risk. Is it worth it? Re town_status: As far as I can tell, the town_status calls work if and only if the town passed is -1; in that case, the calls work for the town the party is in. If used outdoors, with -1 being passed as the town, the calls work for the town the party was in last. (edit) As far as I can tell, Jeff didn't even make the effort to allow working with statuses of towns other than the one the party is in. I believe he either forgot to add full functionality as is described in the docs, or just couldn't find a good way to make it work and simply left it out. (further edit) This is valid for Mac v1.1.1. As there are still complaints about the calls not working, I assume it's valid for 1.1.2 as well. quote:I also applied to the first and last schools on your list. I'm still waiting to hear from them, as well as from Harvard, Bowdoin, Carleton, Haverford, and Union College. I've been accepted to U Vermont already. I should be getting a decision from W & M any day now; friends of mine have already heard from them. I've heard from many people that where one gets their undergraduate education doesn't matter when compared to which graduate school one attends. I intend to go to grad school; hopefully I'll be able to look back at this time and laugh at how much stress I'm experiencing. -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... Wow... everyone has had a lot of intelligent things to say. I count myself fortunate that I go to a very good public high school. Everyone here is very motivated to learn. Unfortunately, many students around the country do not have the opportunity to go to a good college, or to college at all. Out of curiosity, I would like to know where the Spidweb community's resident students applied to and attend college. I would like to try and get a feel for the general level of intellectual motivation here. (from what I've seen in general, it's pretty high.) -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... This gets brought up periodically, and bugs me every time. Just because you can produce an example that's easy to read when the inside letters are scrambled doesn't mean it'll work all the time. Even if you produce 50 examples, it might be that there are 100 more cases where a passage would be completely illegible. A good counterexample I saw at http://typographi.com/000687.php is "Nreuuoms pmeeononnhs peossss uiapocmltecnd etaaoilxnpn; nwttdtsniinoahg, the pdseuo-snfiiiectc spssliiimtm is not snfiiiectc and eieecndvs are oetfn mdanleiisg"* * "Numerous phenomenons possess uncomplicated explanation; notwithstanding, the pseudo-scientific simplistism is not scientific and evidences are often misleading". -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... I'm not sure if this is related; I can't create any rectangles at all. All of the things that should make a rectangle (special encounter, room description, solid and hollow terrain) don't do anything. I click the button, then select the two endpoints of the rectangle, but then nothing happens. I'm using 1.02b4, on Mac OS X 10.3.7. I don't have the problem in 1.02b3. -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... Posts: 508 | Registered: Thursday, May 29 2003 07:00 |

You may want to post the troublesome scripts here, or it will be difficult for anyone to help. The proper call to go to another state is set_state_continue(state); Perhaps you're using set_state(state), which is more suited for use in terrain and creature scripts? -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... quote:Actually, if you think about it then the bug should be more common than that. The way your target script works is by choosing a number from 0 to 120, then starting over if the number doesn't represent a living creature. Let's assume that the outcome of getting 120 is breaking the script and causing it not to be called. Suppose there are 7 friendly characters that are eligible to be targeted, including the party. Every time the random number selector hits a value that doesn't represent a living, friendly character, it starts over, UNLESS that number is 120. If the number is 120, the script crashes when you try to call char_ok. So in that case, the chance of crashing whenever the target routine is called is actually 1 in 8, not 1 in 121. If there are fewer friendly characters, the chance is even higher. As I was playing a singleton, the chance of getting the errant 120 was increased. Edit: Come to think of it, that might explain why the particular error I received was an infinite loop. Especially with singletons, the random number generator could go through many iterations before reaching a good number. I don't actually know if it would be enough to cause that error, but it seems possible, especially if Jeff coded some kind of check against infinite loops that wasn't smart enough to realize your loop might end eventually. I encountered a dangerous bug in the fight with Unum. (I'm not sure if this has been reported before) Basically, the wizards' script failed for some reason; the error message was an infinite loop, I believe. The problem caused by this was that the proper flag was not incremented on their deaths, leaving the barriers up. It took a while to work around this so I could continue the scenario; I ended up doing the following: 1) Using the character editor to set the proper flag to the right amount 2) Using the character editor to take my party out of town 3) Using the scenario editor to set the tower to take me directly to Unum's floor rather than the ground level I'm not sure what caused the bug to happen. It might have had something to do with the wizards' targeting system; there were a lot of summoned monsters. If it's relevant, I was playing with a god party on Mac OS X 10.3.7. -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0... Posts: 508 | Registered: Thursday, May 29 2003 07:00 |

It uses "snd " resources, which I believe Quicktime calls "sfil" or System 7 Sound. If you have Quicktime Pro, it should be able to convert sound to that format, and then you can use ResEdit or something similar to copy the resource fork of the resulting file to your .cmg. If anyone can confirm or refute this, please do, because I'm not completely sure. You can always try it and see if it works. -------------------- 5.0.1.0.0.0.0.1.0...
