Good corollary. I expect you couldn't lead a discussion on National Socialism without mentioning Hitler either... though as soon as you discuss politics and tempers flare, you get close to a genuine invokation.

I think I sit over 50 hours at a PC per week. Around 25-30 hours of that at work alone, and presumably more at home. Oh, and my area's life expectancy was 79 for women and 72 for men, but I was born in Manhattan, where apparently the average is 73 (that's not split up according to gender).

Hitler was very charismatic... he could talk the devil into lighting himself on fire
P.S. being charismatic is no excuse for stupidity or all the "unclean" people he killed

And some hold that one of the key reasons his dictatorship was doomed from the start was that it was held together only by his charisma, and after he died naturally it would have crumbled anyhow. This can't be verified, of course, because he was defeated long before that.

Alo, since there isn't any real disagreement, I wonder if Godwin's can be applied here. Normally, it implies a sort of hostile context, which we don't have here yet.

The links? I presume you mean to all those various lists? Okay.

List of all members ordered by member number/chronologically (last updated: March 7)List of members with a custom title (last updated: March 7)List of all members ordered by postcount, decreasing (last updated: May 5)List of active members in March/April ordered by postcount difference (last updated: April 21)List of active members in April/May ordered by postcount difference (last updated: May 20)Edit: The last two lists are sorted by postcount increment in that month, not total postcount.
Marlenny, you are on those lists. Except for the first one, which was made before you joined. And for the second, since you don't have a custom title. You were #151 for April, and #141 for May. ;)

Bandwidth on the server end is not the issue - remote-loading pictures does not strain the server, but only the user's connection.

However, to give some control over filesize and content, it would be advisable to force the picture to be uploaded to the board itself. This would take diskspace, which is an issue. Note that these boards have been pruned several times for diskspace, and one forum taken down entirely, but rarely has anything been done about bandwidth.

Thuryl: are you advocating - *gasp* - Communism?

Mh... that sounds sensible. With that kind of automation, many scarce resources would become available to everyone.

Wouldn't it be ironic if a system originally meant to be for the worker only started working once there are no more workers in that sense?

Ben: As it is, the bandwidth load I put on the boards with one count is around 40 MB. Although I heard that ironycentral has unlimited bandwidth (not sure), I'd rather not do this more than once a month. ;)

I'm in the office, so I'm not listening to anything. When I last was at home, I was listening to a CD of Hélène Grimaud playing Brahms, and before that, the soundtrack of my new Age of Empires CD. Remember this topic? :P

Dividing total posts by total threads, as you did, would lead to correct statistics assuming no one has posted since you took them and the post counters are correct.

Aside from failing to count a lot of older deleted topics, those would seem to be correct, yes. Of course, among the older ones there were several very long threads...

It's not the silence on here that gets me. Rather, out of the posts that are published, it is the currently huge percentage of crap. Frankly, if some of the crap got cut, I wouldn't care if it had to get quieter for that.

Hey! We're not all geeks. Sure, we may have geekish tendancies. We may even have geekish friends. But to paint us all with the same brush... That's just wrong.

I admit I'm generalizing. But geek is a relative term. To some, we are already geeks by playing computer games, to others even more so for playing RPGs, and to still others still more for playing RPGs with simple graphics developed by a three-person company with a single self-employed programmer.

On the same note: Geeks of the world, there's hope for you yet.

Conventional use requires a good pre-formatted document more often than one might think. And it never hurts, at least compared to .doc or the mac equivalent, which can be read only with the same program, or .txt, which has no formatting.
