Chaldrath is a haakai in a tower in South-East Valorim. I know that because I just fought him today ;) . The annoying thing is that I couldn't get close enough to cast Ravage Spirit and had to batter him with wound spells. After the battle I discovered the gap in the barrier holding me off. Did I feel stupid  . I coined my name basically at random, it was supposed to be for an online roleplay character, a wizard. Later, learning a bit of Quenya (shame on you if you don't know what that is :) ), I discovered it also meant something like 'King/Lord of the Ways', aran=king, caitar=ways. It also translates quite neatly into most other fantasy tongues such as Vahnatai. Comes out as complete nonsense though. "Agitated - Room - Astral Plain - Jewel" :D -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Funny. When I last saw that post nothing, not even part of the link, was active. It was just code, like and stuff. Even when I edited it. Can you actually build in a punishment for making the town hostile in any way (theft, murder, alarm trigger)? Like in Exile 3, when you piss off Fort Emergence, the Tower of Ghikra, or Erika's Tower, you are automatically killed? -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Well, there *is* after all a disclaimer on the page to not take the song seriously. The pity is, most people just go in a rage as soon as they hear the song and don't stop to read the disclaimer. There is one link on that page that does deserve such rage IMO, and it's the Bonsai Kitten one ( Click Here) It's just gross  , and if that one's just a joke like the song - which I don't think - they so far have not put on a disclaimer. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Wizards look old. Female mages must not look old, or they're crones, and that's another type of mage altogether. On the other hand, have you ever seen a powerful male mage that looks younger than 90? I guess female mages are more conscious of what they look like :P .ö -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Well, seeing as I didn't actually create any scenario yet, I haven't got any experience, but I'll probably convert the scenarios I've planned into BoA once it comes out... ... assuming I'll finish it at all before BoA is released, otherwise I'd probably make only the BoA version. I know that it's harder to make because of the graphics, but the system really wears me down, because I always misplace the notes I've made, and currently I've got about 10 versions of the scenario I'm making. The one with all monsters designed contains none of the outdoor tiles, the one with the towns hasn't got the items, and the one that has most progress has the wrong number of outdoor sections... I hope the interface will become easier in BoA. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. You have to stick to the world you're in. It's not Middle-Earth, so I guess there are no elves. Would be cool though ;) . I plan on using elven and dwarven NPCs in a scenario I'm developing in BoE, but that is set in another world. (I mean, the scenario starts in the Exile/Empire world, but the player is teleported somewhere else) Vahnatai would be cool, but I guess the Empire and Avernum would be hostile to them after what happened in E3. Note that Nephil and Slith characters were not included in E1 for the reason that the Avernites killed all of them on sight. How about golems? :D Just a joke though. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. I think they're kind of like Nephilim in their stats, but even more extreme. Vahnatai weapons are light and fast, which seems to imply that you need a lot of dexterity, but little strength, to wield them. And the razor-disks remind me of ninjas or something. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. There's a complimentary set now, with "great leaders and military heros" or something. Bush's Ace of course. Now *that* makes me want to cry for the stupidity of it. And of Bush. EDIT: I seem to have taken so long for posting that there were four responses before mine that I hadn't seen. About the Germany comparison: There are a lot of other things that I see now on television or hear on the radio, which remind me of things I have read about WW2 (I'm from Germany, btw). For example flags in churches. If there was something like that going on in Germany, it would cause an uproar, simply because of the history my country has. And recently, I've seen jokes about Bush and Rumsfeld, which have already been told about Hitler during WW2. It's not really appropiate to make such comparisons however. I don't really think that Bush will be another dictator. He's only stupid. [ Monday, May 26, 2003 16:15: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! If you're used to the Exile interface, Realmz will seem like a slap in the face, IMO. Or worse. The graphics are smaller, and for some reason less sophisticated though they seemingly try to look more elaborate. I might have been less biased when playing it, but then, I had just played Exile 3 before that, and it was definitely a step down in quality. ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! In Blades of Exile it is possible to play several scenarios with the same parties. At the same time, this puts severe restrictions on custom stuff: You can't customize spells, abilities or weapon types. Jeff has been asked whether these restrictions would be lifted in BoA, and he has replied no, for exactly the same reasons they are there now. That would imply that you can transfer parties. About the campaign thing: I'm not totally sure, I know that it will not be possible to transfer special items, quests, achievement infos and other scenario-specific things to another scenario. If you want sequels, these sequels must be exactly the same no matter what the party did in the first scenario or even whether they played it or not. You can have several scenarios for one story, but they can't be linked in any way. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Um. "Not all dinosaurs died out"? There don't seem to be any around any more, duh. I searched for mangophobia, and the only site I found was this: Spooky Mangos It seems to suggest that mangophobia is the fear of mangos *lol*. There *is* no Directx available for Windows NT :( , or I haven't searched well enough. On some support boards I read that the newest version of directx for NT is 3.0, which is hardly up to date. Anyway, I didn't find any links for that one either. The easiest way to solve the problem would probably be to switch off the Avernum 3 sound somehow; for Exile 3 there was a patch file that could do this, but not for A3. :( And the "dxdiag" doesn't seem to work for some reason, the program can't be found. Hi, I'm using the unregistered version of Avernum III in Windows, and when I start the game, I am immediately bombarded by error messages reading: "DirectSound Error: Failed to create sound buffer" I use Windows NT. Another PC with the same system, but without a soundcard, had no problems at all with executing the game. Does anyone know how I could fix that? The game works ok without sound, but I get a message every 2 seconds or so, which makes playing almost impossible. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast.
