Ahem. The only one I know of is Arthur Weasley, who is bitten by a snake under mysterious circumstances (too vague to be a spoiler). Any others? -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. How about Terry Pratchett's 'Old English' And ye mightye partye didde emerge fromme the front gate of the greatte Fortte Emergence, and it was goodde. Oligarchy or monarchy, the thing is; they still need to have absolute power in the boards, otherwise spammers will just ruin the whole thing. That's what I meant; we have a choice between having the boards spammed back to the stone-age, or we can have a lot of mods and admins with ultimate power - preferably arranged around the time zones so that they can work shifts around the clock - who delete every topic that shows the first sign of being spam, instead of locking them. I don't really think the second option is better: It would form the boards into something where you're afraid of clicking the post button for fear of being banned (or canned), and boards should have such a thing as freedom of speech. But if it stops the spammers... :( -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. I think that idea - which is a wonderful idea to make original games btw - is already used in several scenarios. The only one that currently comes to mind is "A small rebellion". How about having a 'Lawful Evil' alignment? Some sort of Holy Inquisitor for the Anama ;) ? Or serving some brutal totalitarian king as secret police. Personally though, being evil in an rpg is bad for my mood. I'm not above razing a town or three when I'm bored, but being evil on purpose - ie. to fill the game's objective - sounds unpleasant. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. I guess we have a choice between totalitarianism and anarchy. :( Which is the smaller evil? -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. So basically, it's the same as Shakespeare without the rhymes and the scansion. ;) OMG, completely forgot, I think Shakespeare did live around then some time right? Oh, and I guess they can hardly put something more explicit than 'knowing' in there, can they? It's General Audience, remember. :P [ Tuesday, June 24, 2003 13:30: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. Sorry if this makes me sound uneducated/uncultivated, but who or what is King James 1611? Do you mean a kind of Middle English from 1611? Oh, and about Shakespeare: :D [ Tuesday, June 24, 2003 10:56: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Such parodies don't necessarily need to lack style :P . How about this: (That's based on the ballad of Eärendil the Mariner, in Lord of the Rings, if you want to know.) Erika was a sorceress That sorc'ried in Ermarian The Empire was pissed of at her And banished her to Avernum Her power was beyond all thought And so she wrought most mighty spells To nourish life in deepest caves And keep it save from utmost hells. But as time passed, her mind did turn To wrathful, churning thoughts of hate For ere the wizards cast her down They cursed her thus to seal her fate: That ever, if the light of sun Should touch upon her skin again Demonic ire and blazing fire Consume her in the instant then. And so her fury smouldered fey At seeing day for nevermore And soon she plotted full of gall The tyrant's fall and death through gore. A party then - for thus they named Adventurers in days of old - Was beaméd up to Hawthorne's Fort And killed the lord and got some gold. And later, when the Avernites Decided light of day was nice The vahnatai wreaked havoc on The surface out of pure despise. So Erika went up herself To aid the party in their plight And battled Rentar-Ihrno there But Rentar brought the deadly light Into the caves, and on the spot A blaze as hot as brightest star Consumed the mighty sorceress, The flammifer of Erika. Bit crappy, but better than Zephyr's RPs ;) . -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. In an IM, I've seen the following message being used: "[Name of Sender], you are amazingly stupid. You're actually retarded enough to argue with an away message!" :P Works best if [name of sender] can be included, for example in aim - I'm not sure if it's possible in icq. :D -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Omlette: You have to be careful about keeping it secret though, or some government will draft/abduct you and force you to gold-making the rest of your life - reminds me of some fairytale :P . Oh, and you'd be likely to be shot to prevent a price slump. Basically, it'd be a dangerous and unpleasant ability. No thanks ;) . Time-stopping is nice too, but only if linked with immortality. What's the use of being able to put in a year in one day if it shortens your life by one year? Is that really worth it? - I'd like invisibility best. You can always get an airplane :P . - And teleportation would be nice. That or vast arcane power. Mmmmmh, which? Teleportation is incredibly useful; almost half your time is spent on getting from one place to another. Magic would be cooler though. EDIT: Forgot completely to say what I was gonna do with that magic power. I'm not sure yet, but I know that it includes something painful happening to Bush. :P - I'd stick with 'Arancaytar', maybe 'The Arancaytar'. I like the name. That's why I chose it for my board profile, duh! ;) [ Monday, June 23, 2003 23:29: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! I heard he was duelling a Death Eater in some underground chamber, and fell through a 'magical portal of death' or something like that. That's only a garbled rumor passed on through word of mouth, mind you. I haven't actually read this far myself yet (My father and my sister take turns reading it at the moment, so I don't get to read. ;) ) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! quote:Yeah, it's probably a good idea to keep the name for yourself - if you want to keep the name for yourself. [/sarcasm] Sorry, couldn't resist that. :P Also, if you tell the name of your scenario, you will usually have started developing it, or at least finishing the outline of your plot. So you'll be ahead of anyone copying (probably, unless the one copying is a very fast designer). And when the scenario is out, nobody would name theira after one that is already there... ;) -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.
