BTW, I wonder if you can do that in BoE (death node upon making towns hostile). Does anyone know how? And Alorael, thanks for the 'SPOILER' Edit, completely forgot about it. :P -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. For that reason, the game would need to analyze the references, and make a list as to which slots are called for what purpose. It's too complicated IMHO. Not that it's not possible; i've seen more complicated features in programs (at least I think they were more complicated, I know nothing of programming). However it may be, I'm not sure whether Jeff will invest a lot of time into programming something that the designers can also do themselves - after all, he wouldn't want them to become fat and lazy would he? :P -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. He's a she by the way. :P ***SPOILERS*** I forget how exactly the final battle (Erika vs. Rentar) happened (that's a lie of course, I never got that far ;) ). I think the player has to push some control panel while Rentar is otherwise occupied. Dunno what she does afterwards, or whether she's killed. It's the only time I know of where Rentar is hostile, so I'm assuming you mean this battle when you speak of killing Rentar. If it is, I think killing Rentar is unnecessary, because you just need to press the button. If it isn't, killing Rentar is impossible, or should be, because it messes up the plot. :P [ Thursday, July 03, 2003 09:42: Message edited by: Alorael ] -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Exactly. The same about stat increases, items, and basically all of the things. We have to accept Avernum has a different system than Exile. It might be possible to replace 'Avatar' with 'Divine Warrior'. There is no replacement for a spell such as 'Sticks to Snakes' (bit useless really), or 'Divine Thud'. Area spells are abolished - and I don't think they'll be in BoA -, and replaced with arrow spells. So I'd say, remake the scenario in BoA from scratch, it's a great way to learn how to handle the editor without having to search for new ideas first, and also a great way to improve the scenarios by going over them again. :) -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Wow, that's the second time you spelt 'successful' wrong, OM. :P Boards sometimes need a lot of time till they come 'alive'. My advice is to get a lot of potential members before you found the board, so the board will get a lot of members right from the start, attracting more members. ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Well, we found out that Jeff stole the Nephilim from the Bible! (Now where was that thread - ah yes, the 'Other Authors in Exile' one) And he has been quoted to say he had quote:, so why shouldn't he take some real world town names too? I wonder if Silvar, Cotra and Formello exist somewhere... -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. When talking of rpg's, you need to have something you can refer to when you mean the world. For example, the world of Geneforge is different from the world of Avernum, and the world of Exile is similar, but a bit different from that of Avernum. Many scenarios take place in a completely different world, or just plain invent new lands to the generic one. After a while, you forget which universe you're in. Any good rpg series should have a well developed world, including a history, a mythology, a consistent geography, and, of course, a name! And the Sliths, Nephilim, and Humans have different languages and cultures. They would name the world differently. Look at our 'Earth'. It's the only world we've ever been on, apart from the moon which doesn't really count. It's still got a name. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Coleridge --- "It is as if everyone had lost their sense Consigned themselves to downfall and decadence And a wisp it is they have chosen as their beacon." Only question remaining: In what way should the above post be interpreted? :P ie., "Geez, I'd never have been able to think of such crap." :D EDIT: Alorael was faster. :P I was referring to EEP_Karzoth's one. I can make a few guesses as to what to expect: Custom graphics can't be converted automatically. It's a big step from 2d to 3d. Whether this means that - the converter will reject all scenarios with any custom graphics at all, - or it demands that a corresponding BoA custom sheet be made (there are many BoA graphics already after all), which then automatically replaces the old references in the monsters, terrains and items lists (now THAT would be cool! ) I don't know, but, judging from Jeff's seeming antipathy towards all custom things in scenarios, I rather expect the former. :( Cities will probably be rather distorted because of the different walls and floors. It could work out, but it probably requires editing afterwards. The node --> script thing might well be the most useful and workable feature of the editor, because the functions of the nodes are pretty rigid, and you could probably emulate all of them with the script. 1. Opinion is very divided concerning that. That's the reason for 'ambiguity' being put in the vote description. 2. How can you live in a totally nameless world?? You need a name to refer to the universe at least, you can hardly name it 'the Spiderweb world' or something. Ermarian is perfectly fine for this. The quote from the intro text just referred to the name of the Empire, not the name of the world. Though I'm sure it would greatly benefit the world if some place of origin, history, and a name for this curiously nameless organization was found. After all, it was small once, before it conquered the world. So it should have had a name once. 3. I heard it has something to do with StarWars. No idea if it's true though; I have no clue about either (the quote and the movie). Edit: I really need to post quicker... Those comments were a response to Orangutan's post. Alorael: I have the suspicion Jeff left out the name because he couldn't think of any. I can understand that though; when the game Exile was first made, it was just another one of those small rpg games with poor graphics, and a world explained in two or three sentences in the intro. Now it's grown, so it needs more information, especially for the benefit of the scenario designers. If it's left up to them, Ermarian will just become a jumble of strange islands never mentioned before, and minor continents, cataclysms and other unimportant stuff which is just not consistent throughout the scenarios. Concerning Ermarian, I have no clue either where the name originated. I know it must be official, but I've never seen it in any of the games - I haven't finished them yet. Ah well. Does anyone know where it did come from? Is anyone surprised about the left/right thing? I mean, there was the political compass, and the majority got placed in the anarchist section if I remember correctly... I voted Adrianna btw; right now she's about as powerful as Erika. Nobody seems to like Vince Fizz a lot, I understand; oh, and you forgot to nominate Zephyr! He'd sure make a fascinating mod... About the rest: WTH did you make this poll for??? How about being forcibly drafted by the empire? I don't think that counts as 'mercs for hire'. Oh and, btw, how often has the one about "adventurers in a time of peaceful quietness, being completely broke, and accepting a seemingly easy job" been used? Just so I know if I should change that to something less generic in my scenario. ;) [ Monday, June 30, 2003 13:12: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Gaining power and finding treasure is, in many ways, identical: Power (as in 'strength', 'high stats', 'good weapons' etc.), helps you gain treasure faster.
