If you mean the one for the PC, I don't think so. I could probably play it (and would, if there was no BoE), but 20$ plus 13$ for EACH scenario is, IMO, a load of crap. My opinion, mark you. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. It's a terrific ending to that great trilogy (or quintology? ;) ). It's a bit sad because the Earth is, after all, destroyed, but heck, that's the way the book started, right? But I think Doug had some problem with finishing stories. There's a kind of Odysee-like restlessness about the plot, and it never comes to an end. I bet that if he'd lived longer :( , he'd have made a sixth and a seventh book. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Basically, the Dirk Gently series (can you call two books a series? ;) ) is not a detective story. If it was, I'd agree it sucks. It's a parody on detective tales. Just as HhGttG (did I miss a letter?) is a parody of Sci-Fi, and Discworld is somewhat of a parody of fantasy. :) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. "cute doggy..." - "ROOOAARR" :D :D How about the key combinations? (q)uaff makes you drink potions in Angband, while (q)uest brings up your quest list in ADOM. I imagine there must be worse - for example 'commit suicide' switched with 'scratch nose' :D , but I remember that one specifically because my first Angband death was caused by drinking a salt water potion, vomiting and then starving. Whereas my first ADOM death ws caused by drinking a potion of acid or something, vomiting, and starving. ;) I haven't played Angband much, but I think the best thing about ADOM is the many ways you can die. For example, breaking your leg when repeatedly kicking empty air. Or doing yourself in with a rebounding energy bolt in a narrow space. Or being dissolved by an acid spitting slug. Or skewered by a moloch. Or fried by a booby-trapped door. Or sacrificed by an invisible stalker. Or... it's endless :D . Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams are cool. But who's Tom Holt? I think Douglas is just hilarious, and Terry Pratchett is his counterpart concerning fantasy. The only thing I don't like in Pratchett is that in his stories he describes elves as being nasty.  Elf-hater! ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! d is for canines. Jackals, wild dogs, and stuff. & is for demons. Don't ask me why. D stands for all kinds of Dragons. 3D ASCII?   *screams* That sounds like a nightmare!! Assuming you mean 3d pictures done with ascii. Making a 3d game that has 3d ascii symbols resembling monsters sound fun though. :D -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. I completely agree with you. Fancy graphics are just made to get the price up and to distract from badly designed gameplay. ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! RPG for the sake of graphics and RPG for the sake of plot and game-play are too different things. Games with good 3D graphics usually neglect the storyline, while games without good - or any - graphics concentrate more on plot and storyline. An Example is: ADOM (Ancient Domains of Mystery), where you basically get ASCII-Code graphics, like: ######## #.^T...# #._O.D.# #*..@..+ #/###### (If you don't understand the image, you definitely missed something) :P The graphics are horrible, gameplay is cool, if a bit clumsy. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Coleridge --- "It is as if everyone had lost their sense Consigned themselves to downfall and decadence And a wisp it is they have chosen as their beacon." 3D would make several things impossible: a - Turn-based combat. Ever seen a 3D role play game with turns? They all involve either mashing a key or the mouse button, or complex sword movements that involve similarly complex key combinations, while the fight is in real time. I basically hate RPG's that aren't turn-based, because it makes me nervous to be under time pressure. b - Cheap prices. Good graphics cost a lot. So 3D games would be more than double the prices we pay now. c - Easy customization. If we get a 3D Blades of Exile, you can forget custom graphics; they'd be impossibly hard to make. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Coleridge --- "It is as if everyone had lost their sense Consigned themselves to downfall and decadence And a wisp it is they have chosen as their beacon." ^_^ Look what they've got to say on British/American spelling: 17. When are you guys gonna learn to spell ? This grievance comes from those who aren't aware that British and American spellings sometimes differ. We've been at the centre of some rancour, but we're not going to take offence or harbour any grievances. The catalogue of complaints won't colour this organisation's programme. It's a grey area anyway. And we don't want to labour the point. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Nope. Tried it. Must be something else. Oh well, I'll probably find it soon enough. The last thing I remember doing was using a 'screencam' program (works basically like a screenshot, but makes an avi file from the screen) to get a special effect in Exile 3, that I wanted to implement in an animation for my BoE scenario. I also remember that the computer crashed once because the program took too much memory, and after that the cursor for Exile 3 was gone  . It was back after rebooting, but the reload function doesn't work since. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I suddenly can't open saved games in Exile III any more. When I click on either the button for 'Load' or choose the menu option 'Open Game', the program does nothing. New parties are ok, but I can't save them. The game was all right a few days ago, when I last played it. No problems whatsoever. Now I tried it again and it doesn't work any more. I have no idea what happened in the meantime. :( -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Basically, those numbers are just there for showing off to other people. High post counts, low member numbers, nice custom title, funny signature = cool. It doesn't make you smarter. Look at me, I got over 100 posts in slightly over a week. On another board at which I'm registered more than a month, I've got 50 posts. So there. Does it mean I'm smarter over here? No, it just means that over there I'm less incited to spam because post count doesn't matter as much. :P :P :P -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! If you only need to receive the registration code, it can take no more than a day if there aren't a lot of people ordering. My guess is that Jeff can send several hundred registration codes a day (if he does it manually), but it seems like a lot. To be honest, I have no idea. I guess the number of orders depends on how many people know the company and have bought games before. I'm sure Exile 3 sold better than Exile for example. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Same with me. I especially hate the node sequence jungle though. Basically, you get 50 lines of programming code for each town, and when you make a new one it just gets put in wherever there's a free space. Change a few chains a few times, delete a few nodes, add others belonging to other chains and you're lost in the jumble of cross-references and node chains. I hope the script will be easy to handle. If not, it'll at least be more editable than the nodes. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.
