Many people do in the beginning. From this, two things can happen: Either you continue to post tons daily, until you lose interest and go away, or you start posting a bit less, and stick around. I think that happened to me.

Of course, some people (*cough*Kelandon*cough*Alorael) stick around and continue to post in huge amounts. But that's pretty rare.

Ah yes, I remember. "The Creator" is an identity you share with your brother or something, right?

hawk king: Given that Age of Empires is published by Microsoft, it makes sense that they limit it to their own OS.

Spring: While indeed General has - as Creator (Ash Lael = Creator, did I get that right?) said - evolved into Misc II, it is occasionally considered good form to apologize for severely off-topic threads. Unless the poster is an oldbie, which I'm not, relatively speaking. :P

AoM doesn't much appeal to me from what I've seen (the supernatural and RTS don't go well together imo), and I've hardly heard of Rise of Nations. AoE II is the one I want, if only for reasons of nostalgia.

I suppose if I get anything after that, it would be Empire Earth... ;) (Once I somehow get my hands on some supercomputer that can run it without freezing up every few seconds even at the lowest graphic setting)

I realize that this is severely off-topic. I'd argue that other topics are worse, but that's not a good justification.

Anyway, there's a small question I need answered about the game Age of Empires II, which I'm about to buy. Namely, if anyone has the Gold Edition, can you tell me if the soundtrack is the same as the one on the original Age of Kings version or a new soundtrack? For comparison, the first part of the Age of Kings soundtrack - which is included in the demo version as a rather horrible midi file - is uploaded here.

Thanks, and sorry for the spam.

As far as I can tell you can't get the documentation unless you go in for training, which (as stated at the Lyceum) costs lots of money. Basic training can be had for $250 but I'm pretty sure that doesn't cover complex calcluations(Plus, that's still a lot). The official FileMakerPro website says that the book and CD used during training can be purchased in advance for $99 but makes no mention as to how to make said purchase. My guess is that the 'in advance' part means that you have to register for the class first and probably pay for the class in case you decide not to show up.

Initial thoughts: Whatever company made this program appears to be royally screwing over its customers.

Isn't there a better way of building a database just with PHP, Javascript and a little spit?

Working on it. The General forums are completely sorted, PPP1 and 2. It's just a matter of editing them a little so they link to each other, and also of buying a sufficient amount of webspace (around 200 M), which I currently don't have the time for.

To anyone who uses Gmail or some other mail service with a lot of space: I can zip up the thing (General forum) and send it to you.

Voila.

My first post will probably remain forever, unless the tech forum gets pruned.

Incidentally, I *did* switch to XP, as I said. A year later. Avernum 3, however, started working a few weeks after I had become solidly entrenched in this community. So you might say that, in terms of fate, the glitch fulfilled its purpose.

:)

My economics teacher always used to tell us about the time he rammed an elk, and it would have been a pity just to waste that, so they carted its body all the way home to clean it.

I am not sure what car he was driving, but I'm sure it wasn't a Smart. If it were, the elk might well have decided it would be a pity to let the car go to waste. :P

Edit:

Some semi-relevant US law.
