I don't like Rock music, in fact. But I don't like Harry Potter either, and that doesn't mean I go around saying it's devil worship. :P

Avernum -v- Exile in General

Please please please not again.

The next 30 posts below summarized:

- TM, Creator and almost everyone else of the BoE crew will argue that due to Blades of Exile alone, the Exile series beats Avernum,

- Several newer designers will point out that Blades does indeed rule, but it is Blades of Avernum that rules more,

- Other members will give their voice either to Exile (the "purists"/the "nostalgic"), or to Avernum (the "modernists").

- A horde of newbies will say they don't care crap about those "scenario makers", because the games have far too much confusing plot, and will argue that Exile and Avernum suck compared to Geneforge,

- The rest of Spiderweb will alternatively post "Oh no not again", "Shut the crap up you noob", or just " ", while the more vocal of members will post images like this...

IMAGE(http://www.mikejs.com/thestun/08_images/goat.jpg)

or this.

IMAGE(http://www.globalgourmet.com/food/kgk/2004/0904/mango.jpg)

Or worse.

Then, Alorael or Imban or some other kind soul will lock the topic, and we have peace again until the next newbie makes this thread.

I still remember the great days in the ancient past when I first got a regular internet access (two years ago). Before then, everything I did online had to be done with my father's approval on his 3k dial-in connection. Still, I did a few things on my own then. I downloaded the other Spiderweb games beyond Exile III back in 2001, and that, with a 3k connection, is quite a feat let me tell you.

I also remember the first time I happened upon the Spiderweb forums. It was the glorious day of ADoS's bus that went "Around the Block in However Long it Takes".

Okay, I didn't quite understand what was happening there. But I had this curious feeling that that forum was my destiny. Well, I joined 2 years later. ;)

The trick is to do it subtly. Look at Thuryl. Then again, the word "subtlety" is lost on many Spiderweb newbies.

With the right preparation, it might be possible to get up to five additional levels of CoB upon leaving the scenario, on top of the level you had before entering (by setting your spell level back to five after entering the scenario). That is, unless TM included checks for nasty cheaters who edited their spell level while in the scenario.

And unless the script sets the spell level back to what it was before, instead of increasing it by that amount.

Considering, however, that you leave CoB with Adlerauge, all that would be just a bit pointless.

They might not even have coffee in Ermarian. Where woud that stuff grow - are there any suitable climates?
But perhaps they have some kind of tea that has the same effect...

It looks like I've had a few ideas how to rework the hopelessly cliche'd plot of Eye of the Storm in a marginally more interesting way, and I've also finally installed the 3d editor. Expected remaining designing time has shortened from around 3 years to around half a year. :)

Perhaps Drakey should do something to your post count like on Polaris, so you've got around -10,000,000,000 or so.

But then again, he shouldn't, because it'd mess with my posting statistics and that would be sad. :(

A similarity is inevitable, since the candidates on the poll are also almost exactly the top ten posters.

Alec is the only one nominated who is not in the top ten (he goes for quality over quantity ;) ), and BSC, VCH and Toenail are the only ones in the top ten who weren't nominated.

I agree. Reading anything can help.

It did for me too. The internet has been my best teacher in colloquial English (before that, most of my English was from Tolkien and Shakespeare).

Come to think of it, that might be the reason I talk so... formal?

"But despite this fact, you doubt that death disadvantages anyone?"

Well, if I died, I wouldn't be disadvantaged as such (though I'd be plenty pissed I guess). Unless of course it turns out that there is a god and he wants to roast me in hell for criticizing Dubya.

But most people I know would (I should *hope*! ) feel somewhat... distraught? They're obviously disadvantaged.
