Windows XP has a tool called the "symbol table" or similar. With that, you can paste any special (or standard) character of any given font, without using the keyboard.

Oh, and "trolling" might even be the word, if you take trolling to mean posting nonsense in order to get attention. And ben, posting a bunch of spam is possible, but it gives one a bad reputation, and within the meritocracy that are these boards, a bad reputation is not a pleasant thing to have.

Making trouble anonymously is way underrated. Shouldn't this alone be a reason for double accounts?

Also, you can have enlightening conversations with yourself. It will look embarassing once Imban calls you out, of course (and make no mistake, it's almost always Imban; he's unmasked me twice before), but in the meantime, you can satisfy whatever schizophrenic urges you might have.

Reading this thread while working on the endless task of indexing the Pied Piper forum archives puts several things into perspective.

Whose line is it?

In light of that, I would now like to ask:

Who the heck are you and what have you done to the
other TM? :confused:

1-9 damage per level, no ammunition required. Compare that to slings, which do 1-4 per level. When a weapon does more than twice the damage of the next best weapon of its type, something's not right.

Wait. No ammunition required? But I have arrows in that slot all the time...

Don't feel like making a new thread for this.

This question is not about gameplay as much as plot coherence. From what I have seen, Ancient Bahssikava was a city of Exiles, former Darklings. New Bahssikava is to the North of the steel doors... the ancient city, you can reach only after going through the doors. The steel doors, however, were all that separated the exiles from their homeland. When Legare opened the gates and passed into the abandoned guardpost, we were technically in the Slith Homeland - yet Bahssikava lay further south.

How did Bahssikava come to lie past the gates? Does it have something to do with the cave quake?

There are scenarios that only get tough when you attack the vital plot people protected by the designer.

Canopy is not such a scenario. In fact, I don't see the point in attacking the plot in any of TM's scenarios; they're impossibly tough even when you do only the things you're supposed to.

Oh yes, and the 2-PC party I'm playing was level 40 when starting Bahssikava. I had to edit through Canopy, and then toned my stats down again when I was done. Come to think of it, that's how I play most scenarios by TM.

Tolkien. By comparison, Rowling and Eddings are pale imitations.

Jeff Vogel... well... I've read his writings, and I've played his games, and I prefer the games. Stick with programming.

Dan Brown? Wonderful books, those. Fascinating and entertaining to read. Some would say they have little literary value, but most of those are snobs wanting to sound profound.

Shakespeare's cool. He's underappreciated because it is fashionable to dislike him now.

I've read only one book by Hawking, and I wonder why you throw a physicist in among the fantasy authors. Sure you didn't mean Stephen Hawking without the Haw? He's interesting to read, but I like Feynman better in that particular genre.

Edit: This poll is incompetently done. I might as well ask. What is your favorite book?

Ironically, when I was stuck, the first I did was peek into the scripts rather than look for the readme. :P

Edit: Nevermind.

Edit2: Seeing Machrone getting smacked by Phaedra was one of the highlights of this scenario so far. Is there some contest for Best Cutscene? :D

Sorry, I didn't know how to reach the walkthrough. I suppose that it is on the top of the forum here and I was just too dumb to see it?

Anyway, do these spawners only spawn monsters while the player is near/in line of sight? Or am I going to have a herd of ghosts behind me by the time I get to the lever?

The Khassper scene in the Undead city, much more than the one where Kass tells you the Slith history, is roughly what I wanted to do. The way the player has to take another step to begin the scene is annoying, but I suppose it's unavoidable then.

Okay, I suppose I'll just do it like that, and make it a little more obvious that the party should just step forward to see.

(Incidentally, I went through that cutscene scene in Bahssikava just moments ago. :D )

Edit: Oh, and yes, in this instance, doing it like in Bahssikava does look stupid. It breaks the line of dialog, and I might be better off doing it like the Trahison cutscenes in Canopy. Perhaps I could end talk mode immediately before the node in question, and use a dialog box for that last bit...

I'm a bare beginner at scripting, and there are a a few things that have driven me to utter despair. One of them is this.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

The party enters a town via teleport. With the first step they take, they get a message played (message_encounter()), telling them that a figure is visible in the distance. When they approach the person, another state automatically enters talk mode. So far, so good.

But now, I want one response in the conversation (several, actually) to end talk mode, display a cutscene, and then re-enter talk mode.

I've tried to do this with the following code:

begintalknode 17;
state = 9;
nextstate = 10;
question = "...";
text1 = "...";
action = END_TALK;
code =
set_state(16); //The cutscene state
break;
Unfortunately, this executes the cutscene before leaving talk mode (I can tell by the way the computer pauses for a few seconds before leaving the talk window. Ouch.

Next, I try this:

begintalknode 17;
state = 9;
nextstate = 10;
question = "...";
text1 = "...";
action = END_TALK;
code =
end();
set_state(16); //The cutscene state
break;
Which, of course, leaves talk mode and does nothing else. The code beyond the end() is not read.

Currently, I've tried a workaround that simply leaves talkmode, and then, when the player walks a step in any direction, starts the cutscene. But it looks very stupid.

The conversation is far too long to use only dialog windows for it (TM has done that in Canopy with conversation between cutscenes, I believe).

Is there any other way?

Well, first of all, I recommend you post it to the Louvre database, which stores pretty much all BoA graphics. The submission form is here.

Edit: I just realized that that won't work if you're on IE, since it will start up Outlook which you said doesn't work. Ouch.
Then again, you could mail it to arancaytar.ilyaran at gmail.com, and I can pass them on to Brett. :)
