Coincidentally, Arancaytar was the name of the priest in Gale, in Avernum 3.
Seriously?

I am quite certain that I had the name before the game was out. JV ripped me off!

Well, I never noticed that before... sure it is spelled the same?

I have seen Milla used as a first name. Scandinavian iirc, but I'm not sure.

Arancaytar came from a series of fantasy stories (daydreams is more like it) I made up around three years ago.

And my present name comes from a very weird spam mail sent out by, afaik, some "Hare Krishna" group or something. GOURANGA GOURANGA!!! :P

I guess I'm a somewhat older newbie. Or a very new middle-bie. Anyhow, newbiehood is relative. Don't forget that I'm nearly a year older than Kelandon, and of the two of us, he's twice the oldbie I am. :P

Christian agnostic, and I don't believe there is a hell. I can't rule out there is an afterlife of sorts; I just don't believe in Hell as such.

I'll have a look when I'm back in Aachen with the other connection; the firewall here at home won't let IRC through.

I heard of #exilechat, but I don't think I was here when it was being used (is it used now?).

Some folks picked up a custom title for making themselves particularly useful. I think Cartographer is one example, and arguably BoE Posse might qualify as well.

Edit: Sorry, this wasn't meant to be a double post.

Mine has started to grow less itchy and I'm beginning to get used to it. But I don't really like it as such.

Then again, it'd be a cold day in hell before Drakey gives a pound of fetid Dingo kidneys whether someone likes their title. :P

Be careful when changing a lightbulb: It can be very dangerous, and if you are not familiar with the safety precautions, you shouldn't attempt it.

Got E3 on a shareware CD sometime late in 2000. Then found the website and the other games in Summer 2001, and joined the forum in 2003 to ask a Tech Support question (A3 didn't work on my PC).

Same as you probably, since you started the topic.

This "gag" is a moronic approach, akin to closing one's eyes to make a problem go away. Teen pregnancies and drug abuse happen, and by pretending they don't and refusing to accept any program that acknowledges their existence, the problem is worsened. What's new?

On almost (wait, shouldn't that be "All most"?) every occasion I have seen several animals called "octopus" being referred to, collectively, as octopodes. Mainly because the English plural, relying on an 's', is quite tricky to add to a word ending on s.

On the other hand, I have seen "octopi", which is most likely incorrect, but at least sounds sorta correct. ;)

Among many intelligent forum members, it is an unwritten rule not to post only to say "I don't know".

And the topic concerned is on GC (now RWG), and was neither locked nor deleted. Also, it's last post was in mid-2004. If anyone can think of a valuable contribution to that topic, feel free to find it, it's somewhere around the RWG forums.

This "direction and distance" approach limits the options very much.

Would a coordinate input work, just out of interest? I was thinking of using something like that in a scenario...

Mmmh. Actually, I expected this thread to change direction much sooner. Non-fiction necessarily involves serious thought, and serious thought involves Opinions.

So while we managed to avoid discussing the environment after the mention of Adams' "Last Chance to See", or US politics after "Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them", or the Iraq war after "Baghdad Burning", we finally got stuck on evolution vs. creationism.

Not that bad, actually. E&C, on Spiderweb, has this curious lack of flamage, very unlike abortion or politics. Perhaps the lesser of many evils. :)
