Red wine? Actually, I had wine on Easter that was rather bitter.

Lightning.

3: A sturdy back, legs four. I once lived, but now no more. What am I?
A wooden chair? Dinosaurs? Several possible answers, but probably a chair.

1 was a cherry or apple.
2 is correct
3 is a chair, as you said

EDIT: I'll throw in a few more;

1: What walks on four legs at dawn, two at noon, and three at evening?
2: I wear white at morn, I wear green at noon, I wear yellow at afternoon, and I wear red at night. What am I?

1: What walks on four legs at dawn, two at noon, and three at evening?

Man.

2: I wear white at morn, I wear green at noon, I wear yellow at afternoon, and I wear red at night. What am I?

A tree.

Here's one:

I am an eight letter word.

I have kst as my middle, in my beginning, and my end.

What am I?

Also:

Two men were in a cabin in the woods. They were dead. They had both died through no fault of their own, and were not killed by any natural disaster or animal. They had not been murdered. They would both have been a perfect picture of health if they were alive. How did they die?

I take this one from The Hobbit :
A box without hinges, key or lid;
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.

At least, I think thats what it was...I lost the book...

Starvation? Or old age...

Neither are correct, but that is more my fault than yours. I didn't really word the question properly.

I meant more that they were both young, strong, healthy, free-of-disease people. However, they are not nessecarially in a state free of disembowelment.

...yeah, keep guessing.

God is not the answer to this riddle.

I'm going to have to give a hint to what the answer is, aren't I?

Yes. Specifically, one in the timestream (as if you went back in time and killed your past self).

God took them into heaven, like Enoch or Elijah. (once again, I divert to the religious point of view :rolleyes: )

Or maybe they die when they took a nap and the fire in their fireplace burnt down the cabin with the two dudes in it. Or would that count as natural disaster?

No idea. Need a hint.

What am I?

Two more we still haven't answered.

Human error could easily account for deaths. "Whoops! That cruise missile was off by a few hundred miles. Oh well. Only two casualties." It's not natural and it's not murder.

—Alorael, who will add that there are a limited number of words with even one such series of consonants, much less three.

I was starting to think more on the lines of s...k...t or s...kst...t or something. However, s...k...t has no defined "middle."

Inkstand's right.

Alo, you're on the right track, but not quite.

Hint: try to avoid being fooled by the word cabin.

My thunder comes before the lightning;
My lightning comes before the clouds;
My rain dries all the land it touches.
What am I?

A volcano?

A bushfire?

VCH was right. It was wine.

quote:
My first is high,
My second damp,
My whole a tie,
A writer's cramp.
A tool used by a writer to tie two things together... hyphen.

Five hundred begins it, five hundred ends it,
Five in the middle is seen;
First of all figures, the first of all letters,
Take up their stations between.
Join all together, and then you will bring
Before you the name of an eminent king.

Sadly, I think this thread has degenerated into a posting game. Even though it requires slightly more thought than most, I'm still closing it.
