This one is for all Australians who follow football. This topic might die in a matter of minutes, but I'll ask anyway. Do you think Dean Solomons goal should of been counted, and do you think that video replays on controversial goals is required? Answer away, if you can. EDIT: I AM TALKING ABOUT AFL FOOTBALL, NOT RUGBY. [ Tuesday, April 12, 2005 15:49: Message edited by: Sprung Spring ] -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. I am Australian, but I don't watch football, nor do I play it. It's too dangerous. Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

quote:Wimp. Hardly anyone dies playing footy. Unfortunately, I didn't see that game. However, the Brisbane/Sydney match was an absolute ripper (for the second half, at least). And I can't wait to see how the foreigners react to the term 'rushed behind'. :P [ Tuesday, April 12, 2005 15:52: Message edited by: Ash Lael ] -------------------- Sex is easier than love. You are talking at soccer, right? Because in America AFL Football is the Arena Football League, which is played like American fooball only on a half-length indoor field with a few quirky variations. -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

So anyway...who thinks that it was Hawthorns point? Also, who thinks that video replays are required? Personally I think Solomon deserves it, as I am a diehard Essendon fan. I've seen one person harm himself while watching a game alone. He got a little too enthusiastic. —Alorael, who has also heard that the more agitated fans have been known to break televisions. Football is just a game where people kick, punch and generally fight each other for no reason whatsoever. If people want to do that they should take up boxing or wrestling. That is an insanely unfair portrayal of a great sport. There is not nearly as much fighting as you imply. In most games a couple of guys will have a bit of a push and shove, but a full blooded punch is hardly ever thrown. This is because it's against the rules and you'll get suspended for a few games if you do it. I have a lot of respect for boxing, but the two sports have almost nothing in common. -------------------- Sex is easier than love. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |

I agree. Brawls hardly ever take place. There have been a couple of incidents, most recent to my memory being Matthew Knights and Tony "Libba" Libraetore. Things like that don't happen all to often in AFL. -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Polaris Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

quote:Well, maybe fighting doesn't take place, but it is still slightly dangerous because with a player as hopeless as me, whenever I try catching the ball it always either lands on my head or my foot or whatever. I simply cannot kick, either, because it hurts my toes. Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

I greatly dislike football because it's definetely a strength sport - not totally, no, but it's far more strength than, say, fencing (which I greatly enjoy). As such, it's very hard for someone who weighs under 40 kilograms and has lost at arm-wrestling to ten-year-olds to do very well at it. However, I still think it's a perfectly acceptable sport, even though I've never bothered to learn how to play and am completely sure that I would be awful at it if I did. They're talking about Australian Rules football, actually, which I am pretty sure has a much larger endurance/general running component than American football. Thus, monstrous size and strength aren't prerequisites in the same way as in American football, to which you seem to be referring. I like American football, because stocky, clumsy people like myself are made for the offensive line, and every other sport requires some sort of coordination, speed, or endurance. One of the reasons I love Australian Rules footy is that there's a great deal of variance in the kind of players on a team. There are the big, strong players who can stand up and take a mark in a pack with three guys hanging off them, there are the fast, athletic midfielders, and there are small, skillful goalsneaks. Stephen Milne for St. Kilda is like that. I've seen him quite literally step around a couple of players and kick a goal. Not to mention the guys like Brett Burton or Russel Robertson who can jump onto another player's shoulders to take a high mark. Those are always good to watch. -------------------- Sex is easier than love. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |

I'm more of a midfielder/defender than a forward line player. I'm not very accurate. Also, today in my football match, I won by a single point (5.2.32) to (5.1.31). That will show my freind who played in the opposite team :P ! -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Polaris Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

Cheers. Not really wet, just good defenders. Also, we started at 9.00am, so we were all a bit tired. -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Polaris Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |
