Stay with the news; Iraq is currently occupied by the US.

Currently the only one even rumored to be able to control the weather are the Illuminati and the US military, and those rumors are hopefully quite far-fetched. :P

So, where should I go to meet any Spiderwebber whatsoever? 37? 81? 85? 67? I wouldn't want to switch back and forth all the time to see who's online.

Also, I'm level 10 and still not fed up with it. Scary. It's a low-quality game with at best an unrealistic and repetitive gameplay (try killing chickens while chatting to their owner, or slaughtering random townsfolk and then burying the bones to get a shiny karma). The constant "FREE STUF PLZZZZZZZ!!!111" messages from my fellow players do not help either. And yet I continue to play. I suppose it's the standard mmorpg syndrome.

Indeed, which is why I said the connection was nominal. In fact, Easter appears to be far more strongly connected to Christianity than Christmas.

Probably by taking an extended vacation in order to contemplate the problem in quiet solitude, and collect photo opportunities with disaster relief workers. Or was that a rhetorical question?

I read Drowtales occasionally, although that is Manga rather than Anime (I'm not quite sure of the distinction, except that the latter appears to be movie-based).

It is true that Manga/Anime cartoons are drawn in a very odd style different from other cartoons, and the enormous eyes and somewhat unrealistic anatomy of the characters takes some time getting used to. But as long as they weren't translated in Zerowing style ("All your base..."), they're not that awful.

1. "Gay" at some point in time meant happy, not homosexual. In the Christmas context, it is usually the first meaning that applies (there are several older christmas carols with that word, which always managed to crack our choir up in Middle School  )

2. Christmas is a Christian holiday in name only. :P

CREATING A MESSAGE BOARD(NEED A HAND!!!) in General

A message board is a web application usually built in PHP, accessing a MySQL database. If you don't know whether either of these are enabled on your webspace, they probably aren't (since you mention using only HTML on your site, I guess you don't have PHP).

If you don't, you need a remote host. The best free forum host I have seen is InvisionFree. (There's another one called Proboards though).

Oh, and if anybody tells you about EzBoard, don't listen - they suck royally.

---

If you do have PHP/MySQL enabled, I suggest getting phpBB. It's free, easy to set up and easy to maintain.

We have arrived at the free will argument once again, like with Euthanasia.

Apparently, it is widely held that trying to change one's sexuality can cause serious psychological damage. Euthanasia, by definition, is lethally harmful. Is it wrong to pursue either by choice? The problem lies in determining whether it is one's own choice or social pressure.

To be sure, the name "Thralni" is derived from the game however - it does not occur anywhere else.

However, one Google result showed the name "Filbert Thralni" (a Dutch site), and it was probably out of Spiderweb context. :P

Atrus is because I just finished Myst III Exile, and I'm a fan of the series.

I've known the name Arancaytar since late in 2002, but it was around March 2003 when I first used that to register somewhere (before, I've posted under my real name or various LotR characters. There should still be some of my old posts stored somewhere if you google for 'Smeagol ADOM'. I eventually registered an email account under that name, came to be called Aran by online friends, and now that's sort of become my identity.

In Summer when (as I've told several times before, probably) I met a couple of online friends in Bavaria, I was called Aran by practically everyone.

If someone were to call out "Aran" on the street now, I'd turn my head without being surprised at being called that. Scary?

--

What's it mean?

Zilch, nada. Random syllables stuck together in a way that might sounds vaguely Elvish/Indian.

The mathematician looks at the psychologist in disgust. "What? I'm not going to go through this. You know I'll never reach the food!" And he gets up and storms out. The psychologist ushers the physicist in. He explains the situation, and the physicist's eyes light up and he starts drooling. The psychologist is a bit confused. "Don't you realize that you'll never reach the food?" The physicist smiles and replies: "Of course! But I'll get close enough for all practical purposes!"
The thing to remember, of course, is that your arm has a reach of nearly a meter. :P

Some guy posted the dog joke in the other thread (too tired to check), and it's still dumb. While it indeed does not add anything to the joke whether the other person is a (Jewish) rabbi, and it does not matter whether the book the dog is opening is a (Christian) bible, both together indicate an inconsistency. This alone generates a potential set-up for a punchline, but is left hanging in the air. This distracts from the actual joke, which isn't that good in the first place.

Wow, I needed that rant. :)
