I like how the Avernum guards have crossbows. The spears were just so pathetic... I can't remember exactly, but I think the Avernum guards always have a 95% chance of hitting unless you have gymnastics. Come to think of it, the Exile ones were definitely more difficult if you relied on magic too much.

Exile:
Guard throws spear:
Misses.
Guard attacks Jenneke:
Hits for 31
Hits for 24
Adrianna casts fireball:
Guard takes 9
New turn:
Guard attacks Jenneke:
Hits for 29
*gasp*
Hits for 2
Jenneke is turned to dust!
Adrianna casts kill:
Guard takes 23

Avernum: Why doesn't he die????

Avernum 3 guards could kill Exile guards as well as its predecessors. I think Avernum guards have more health than Exile ones have 70% resistance to melee damage, so I think they might still be able to win. I always thought it was strange for royal guards to be weaker than normal guards. Gazers and such are meant to be killed but it doesn't mean they aren't hard...

There weren't really any of those generic guards in Nethergate; they were more like soldiers and were therefore easy to kill. (4)

Geneforge guards were even easier in my opinion. (3)

I think Exile and Avernum guards are a tie. The Exile ones attack twice and are hard to damage, and their magical resistance is good. But you can do more damage in Avernum and are a bit more resistant to damage yourself. (6)

Geneforge 2 guards come in many different forms. The servile type would be 5. The human type would be around 6. If there are a lot of turrets and you can't dodge them, I'd give them an 6.

Has anyone ever killed Learned Pinner in Geneforge 2? I'm not sure if that's ever a quest, but if it was I'd assume it would be pretty difficult.

Rank how relatively difficult the guards were in each game (Exile 1-3 Avernum 1-3 Nethergate Geneforge 1 & 2).

I rarely kill townsfolk in Avernum, although I killed lots of friendlies in Exile since they would always reset. You can get so much experience by killing guards (when you are strong enough) and visiting other towns (possibly killing their guards as well) and then go back to the first one and the guards will have regenerated and then the cycle keeps going until you're level 50 :) . The second time I played Avernum I killed all the people in towns once I was sure that they couldn't be of any more use to me.

I don't think the BoE scenarios were very good, actually. Each one didn't have their own unified feeling. Jeff just didn't make each look like he put a lot of effort into making them, although he probably did. But the new scripts, refined dialogue, and the whole engine change will hopefully make these things better.

You mean it will take him about a day to convert each scenario? I think there must be a more efficient way of doing that... Do you know if the converter attempts to condense many nodes together or if it just makes inefficient scripted versions of nodes? The dialogue would be inherently difficult I guess.

I hope Jeff will put a lot of work into the last scenario since it probably will only take him a few days to convert and improve on the other 3. I want to see a really well designed scenario to come with the game. Then people could be convinced that they could make something as good, and even better.

I hate those meta tags since many websites put tons of junk in the tags and can fool some search engines to list them when they have almost no relevance to the intended query. What html editor do you all use?

I think my name just sounds nice on the ears. It just popped into my mind when I was trying to think of a screen name. I wanted something medieval, but not directly pertaining to the Spiderweb games.

I was thinking about "Keeper," but it would've probably already been taken and it sounded too common.

Oh yeah, and I've had my world crushed today because I found out that I have been spelling the word "definitely" "definately" for the last decade. It burns so very much. Just search for that spelling and you'll find it in so many of my posts. It's humiliating.

I certainly feel that there is a higher presence, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that there is a God. There are no real proofs to God's existence since someone will always try to explain the supernatural, and in this world they usually find a pretty good explanation. Eventually, anyway. Well, we'll all find out once we die, I guess. Of course, I believe in the resonant consciousness of the afterlife...

Tell the author to keep trying. It's a start. I remember when I was a bit younger and I always thought that whatever I'd write would be excellent simply because I enjoyed reading and writing it. Unfortunately that is not always the case. I know one person who is simply destined to become a great author because of the brewing and existing talent within him. I hope the writer of this topic's piece will be another.

It was, um, well, nice. I suppose. The periods and such were so nicely arranged. And the quotation marks, and the names, and, uh... I'd like to know how old the author is. The writing isn't that bad, but it isn't that original and the plot isn't that great. The wording could have been better and I am definately not laughing right now.

Hmm, I guess I'm a barrel of negativity today.

Jarvis and his men take the last turn to the corridor that Jonnie and UA are supposed to be in.

OOC: More waste of server space...

OOC: Why must his weapons be from SG-1???? And why are the guards so stupid???? AHH!!!

IC
Jarvis reassembles his unit and runs to 4B.
Jarvis: Where is Yaven?
Soldier: Dunno. You don't suppose... My god, the cargo bay is awfully close to 4B, don't you think?
Jarvis: What? There's no way that someone could've killed Yaven without him even being able to send out a distress signal. He's supposed to be one of the best!
Soldier: We can still make mistakes, sir. Heads up, we are approaching the lockdown zone.

The squad easily makes its way past the checkpoints and proceeds to the blast doors and corridors.

Macton spots the group coming towards him. He tries to look as casual as possible, completely oblivious that the head of the guard was approaching.

Soldier: Halt! What the heck are you doing here?
Macton: I'm an undercover guard. I'm keeping watch on this corridor.
Soldier: An unlikely story.
Macton: How else can I still be here if I'm not on your side? A swarm of guards just came through here a minute ago and I'm not dead or arrested.
Soldier: --
Jarvis: We don't have time for this, let's just keep moving.
Soldier: But--
Jarvis: LET'S GO.

With that the squad moves past Macton. Macton sighs and tries again to locate a weak spot in the guard's lockdown.

Soldier: Why did you let him go? He was obviously making a lie. I personally know every undercover guard on this ship. He's not one of them.
Jarvis: Wrong. I know every undercover guard on this ship. He ain't one of them. But it doesn't matter since he'll be caught soon anyway and he'll be charged with murder. The bulge in his outfit looks like a stunner and the residual ions on the bulge and on his hands prove it. The statis hanging around the corridor and the ash left on the ground were clear evidence of what he did. It'll be my word against his and I've got a tracer on him.
Soldier: Umm... You did that all in 8 seconds?
Jarvis doesn't answer.

OOC: Do we want Jonnie and UA captured already? I mean, we should start constructing a main plot soon.

OOC: Sorry, but your post was quite confusing. Besides, Yaven saw it with his infared sensor. Time to add some plot...

IC
Guy1: The engines are at 70% power and we are moving at a consistent 10,000 mps.
Captain: That's pathetic. Can we safely go FTL?
Guy1: Not until we are over a 300 million miles away from Xian. Their sensors will pick up the distortion left by the jump. I estimate that it will be another 7 hours before we can perform the jump.
Captain: All right, keep me posted on Xian activity and our destination.

On Xian...

"I think there might be another Jillnog ship attempting to leave the system."
"Scramble a squadron of our best interceptors to try and find them. And send out a signal to activate the passive warp beacons. We'll know when they jump and where they go if we can trace their signal."
"OK. As for our own evacuation plan, we have enough ships to take 20% of our best and brightest to another hospitable planet. The rest will have to get ships for themselves."

Time to Impact: 8 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes.

OOC: Let's be a bit more careful with the consistency.

IC
Jarvis walks with his unit up and down the corridors, searching for intruders while looking as inconspicuous as possible.
"Yaven, take the route to the left and check the minor cargo bay. Then come around and meet back with us." Yaven nodded and walked to the left. He used his infared sensors to detect anyone that shouldn't be there. He finally made it to the cargo bay and stepped inside.

UA: Hey, I think I here someone up there.
Jonnie: It better not be a guard.
UA: Shhh. Let's wait until he is gone.

Yaven looked around carefully and even opened some of the cargo to see if anyone was hiding inside. He was satisfied with his search until he noticed a hatch next to a box. Curious he wento over to the hatch. He could see that there was a faint heat signature through the hatch. He began to open the hatch.

Jonnie: Oh god, he's opening the hatch. Get out your gun.

Suddenly, Yaven noticed something else on his sensor and turned around just in time to see the flash from his assailants gun...

Yaven's head was no more than a pile of blood a moment later. The shady character took Yaven's gun and ID and walked out of the cargo bay.

OOC: How the heck did UA get on the ship in the first place? I thought he was unable to stun all the guards. I think I will add a bit of background information.

IC: Jarvis casually looks all around him as he walks and changes the spectrum in his implant every one in a while. At last he makes it to the security locker room. He uses his fingerprint and waves his clearance at the guard on duty to get in.

He goes to his locker and opens it up. He takes out an extremely thin kinetic vest (just a fancy name for a thin bullet-proff vest) and a laser deflector. He puts them on under his clothes and makes his way to the armory.

On the walls are an array of weapons and gadgets. There are 3 walls with weapons, each one representing a different class of weapon. There are the traditional kinetic weapons, the energy weapons, and the miscellaneous ones. He takes out a plasma sub-rifle and small kinetic pistol. Both weapons were designed to cause permanent damage. Jarvis takes out his radio and calls his top security squad.

Jarvis: As you know, I have told everyone to be on the lookout for anyone suspicious and to ask anyone and everyone for IDs. I want all of you to come with me to carry out a more, well, extensive search.

Guard: I got it. We'll meet you by the bridge.

Each member of the security squad were "superhuman" in some sense. Jarvis was engineered and had an implant. Many were special because they were genetically engineered, had implants, were part bionic, or were just plain extraordinary. The intruders would have a tough time eluding these guys...

OOC: What do you guys want to be the major cause of conflict in this RP?

OOC: I don't think you should spend the entire time on the ship undetected. The people on the ship are supposed to be your allies after all. Please don't kill my character without my consent.

Name: Jarvis Snyder
Rank: Lieutenant General
Hair: Black
Eyes: Green and Red
Height: 6'1"
Special information: He is the head of security on the ship and in war time he is the lieutenant general of the mobile infantry division. Jarvis is genetically engineered and has an ocular implant. He is a very skilled soldier although his sympathy and mercy is his weakness.

Jarvis is standing on the bridge with the captain.

Captain William: Hello, Jarvis. I can see that you are worried. We'll get out of this alive and we'll get those Xians no matter what. In fact, my researchers are working on a sort of, well...

Jarvis: No, it's not that, sir. I have full confidence in our ability to defeat the Xians and I know that they are completely unaware of our departure. What I'm worried about is that the three ramp guards didn't make it onto the ship in time. I have a feeling someone killed them and snuck onto the ship. Worst case scenario, an enemy spy.

Captain: What? Why didn't you tell me of this sooner?

Jarvis: I feel that the people who snuck on were probably just refugees that want to get off the planet. I have started a surreptious search for them.

Captain: If you can't find them in the next 4 hours, you have my permission to initiate a lockdown.

Jarvis: I'll head the search myself, sir.

Captain: Dimissed.
